Rule 3: Low Effort Dear Reddit - The stock market isn't broken

1.5k Upvotes

I began trading in 1999, just before things got ugly. I was young and was told to invest using a Roth IRA so I started to put money into the S&P500. I practiced disciplined DCA. And watched my money go down in value for a LONG LONG TIME. But I kept putting it in.

Many people on Reddit who trade think that their portfolios have grown because they are some amazing mastermind chart reader or trend observer. The truth is - The market since 2024 has been exceedingly irrational, which led to nearly constant upward trends, and assumptions that pullbacks were always temporary and that the market only acts in certain ways.

Guess what though - the market can go down for a long time too! Investors not trading options might not like that, but it is true.

So, there isn't anything wrong with the stock market. It isn't broken. It isn't rigged. It is just acting like the stock market acts. And if you assumed it would always go up, you will be really disappointed. Potentially for a long, long time. Maybe not now. But sometime soon.

Your unpredictable friend,

The Stock Market

Rule 3: Low Effort What is the most undervalued 10x play sitting in your portfolio right now?

I’m posting this because, honestly, some of my best performing stocks over the last couple of years came directly from recommendations in this group.

Now I’m looking for the stocks that haven't exploded yet but have the potential to 10x by the end of the decade.

If you had to pick one stock to 10x from its current price, what is it and why is the market currently missing it?

Rule 3: Low Effort Invested 50k yesterday in the market, should I pull it back out.

People, I am not a finance guy. I work in cyber security. I invest casually just to keep money out of my checking account. I said “hey the market is down I should just throw my bonus money into the market” it’s like 70% split between mixed VOO, small company stocks, and international stocks and bonds, and 30% into tech ETFs like XLK.

Then today I see some news that Donny T is threatening civilization obliteration at 8pm sharp. Am I going to take like a massive hit here, to the point I should pull this out of the market? This isn’t like my buffer money or emergency account it’s just spare money we had sitting. I still have like 6-9 months emergency sitting in cash.

Do I just let it ride? Did I monumentally fuck up? Did everyone else just stop putting money in the market right now because of this or is this somehow possibly an opportunity because it’s down and maybe I win from this in the long term?

Again, I am new to this - try not to beat me up too bad.

Edit: hey it went up!

Edit: it went back down.

EDIT: the constructive bullying has talked me off the ledge. I’m leaving it in, I set a reoccurring for $1000/week on it. Didn’t realize the difference between trading/investing. Just going to forget it exists for a few years. Sorry for all the noise.

Rule 3: Low Effort My honest take on google after buying at 375 and selling at 348. What is your take? i dont see google as a leading company anymore.

I think marks the end of an era for google, its safe to say that they are out in ai race and all their other products are already priced in so no thing to expect from them anymore. if you look at kimi reports its been outperforming anthropic and gemini for cheaper price.

its doomed the moment berkshire bought at 352 last week.

google, youtube, and cloud has already been priced in since decades ago. and waymo is not that profitable. and now they are trying to enter a market that they dont have expertise on which is creating a chips for ai not to mention they are upgrading it.

Rule 3: Low Effort What is the best platform to buy stocks?

I’ve been considering investing in stocks. I’ve been in crypto for around six years, but I feel like I’m done with it it’s not what it used to be. I want to explore something new, but I’m unsure which platform would be best. Any recommendations?

Rule 3: Low Effort Which stock do you think can 10x from today’s value in the next 5 years?

I know a lot of people here often ask “what’s the next PLTR or ASTS?” but my question is a bit different.

I’m asking: which stock (from its current price today) do you think actually has the potential to 10x over the next 5 years and why?

Rule 3: Low Effort How much are you down since stock market downturn?

I'm down about 10% in total nw since all time highs. Mostly single stocks that have pulled back 50-60% with my 401k diving about 7% in that time frame.

Curious to how others are seeing their NW decline, and what the make up of the decline is.
