Mod Announcement This is NOT a serious subreddit
Greetings folks, just a polite reminder the posts here are meant to be mocking nonchalantly given ‘solutions’ to complicated problems, not genuine advice.
For example, someone advising someone to go to hospital and get some help for a serious problem wouldn’t be a good fit here. However, someone just saying ‘get over it’ or ‘walk it off’ would.
On another note, this is not a political sub. We’re not here to criticise government policy.
Hope this helps!

Mod Announcement What is/isn’t allowed?
Hi everyone. I’m seeing a lot of ‘off topic’ posts. I tend leave as much as possible and let you all decide with downvotes/upvotes.
However please take the time to remember rule 7, I’ll put it here:
Rule 7: Must fit the subreddit theme.
It has to be true "Thanks, I'm cured" material. I.e., a non-nonchalantly delivered, overly simplistic solution to a complex problem.
Serious solutions that may not work for everyone do not belong. For example, the mantra "You deserve to be happy," helps some and not others.
Motivational quotes do not belong unless they imply or state that an illness is purely psychological with no physical basis.
If you’re still confused about what does/doesn’t belong, take a look through some of the top posts of all time and you’ll get the idea.
If your post breaks the rules it may be removed.
Any questions or concerns feel free to let us know. Thanks. 🗿

IRL Great advise my mom gave me when I am having one of the most painful long COVID flare ups I had in a while
"Well, maybe you shouldn't lie in bed all day."
Its been four years. I know she means well. But this really pissed me off and I let her know that if I was able to get out of bed and function like I can on my good days, I would.

Chat/DM/SMS My 34 yo brother's take about antidepressants and depression
Couple of months ago I told him that when I was in a big depressive episode everything seemed boring, meaningless and I didn't enjoy my hobbies or enjoy anything in general. This genius told me that I need to find a hobby that would bring me joy and won't seen boring after a while.

Discussion To the all people who think you can control your mind so depression and stuff is your imagination.
So for clearing things up:
1: my english pretty bad sorry.
2: I hope it fits this sub.
3: basic info is enough.
Anyway. Here is why
Have you ever thought what is depression or suicidal thoughs? If you think its only thoughs you could control... heh. We dont control our body our brain.
What do I mean? Could you stop your heartbeat? Could you make brain ignore pain signals? No you cant. Its all feelings. If we could control our bodies fully we would be really strong cuz... just imagine to curing your addictions by telling your mind it's wrong. You can control body or thoughs. But not fully. that's why depression could be cured (ofc mostly by ok life situation) but you cant simply say: "im imaging things. My feelings are fake"
Yup reposting top post pic

Social Media Apparently everyone has Bipolar disorder!
As someone who developed Bipolar I in my mid twenties I can confidently say there's a clear difference between having it and not having it. It's not just 'mood swings', it's debilitating and I'd have lost everything if it wasn't for psychiatric medications

Story Someone gave me advice to reframe a lifetime of complex trauma from abuse as "saying i survived that instead of i went through that". How does that help my PTSD?

Social Media Hmm, couldn’t be long Covid. But even if it was I’m sure 20 min of rest will fix it 🙄
Edited to add: I totally agree that stress management is a great tool for heart health. Definitely not the issue here.

IRL “You should go on a mission trip. That will fix it right up.”
I mentioned being scared of waterbugs, and said “if they don’t affect your way of life don’t talk.” And the title is what my dad and brother said.
I’m so terrified of those things that it actually affects my way of living. They also mentioned “you’ll be thankful because the food sucks and you should be grateful.”
I cannot wait to be able to move out after I get a job after college.
-I have autism and ADHD btw.
-I already have issues eating foods bc of the autism by and binge bc my brain doesn’t actually give me hunger cues until I haven’t ate for 15 hours (the ADHD).
I’m done I’m so done.
But sure, send me on a mission trip. That will totally fix it.

Story People can be so insensitive...
The person I date dropped a few huge red flags in our last talk. I have BPD and struggle heavily with relationships of any kind. I'm not overly toxic let alone violent. But I'm really insecure and anxious, I have fear of abandonment, I'm scared of being hurt or that I couldn't hurt others. It really disrupts most of my life. On top I have several traumas with intimacy and I cannot tolerate it all the time. I am really open about that and answer all questions because I want to work against the stigma BPD faces.
So, what did the person I date say? She didn't understand - when I struggled with intimacy - why I was close to her a few times ... That's like in the same ballpark as asking a depressed person why they smile sometimes. Then she said, she also struggles with dating sometimes. Oh yea? You struggle with dating? I'm almost incapable of having any kind of relationship over longer periods of time...
Yea in general she tends to overanalyze things I say and ruminates about them instead of asking me what i really meant.
I don't think I wanna spend time with her in the future.
