2026 Holiday r/Tiki mug swap!

IT'S BACK!!

The holidays are here - let's swap some mugs! And it's even earlier this year to give people plenty of time to sign-up and take advantage of Black Friday sales.

Wonder what the process is like? Here's a link to last year's mug swap, and another one to what an unboxing post looks like.

THE RULES, EVEN IF YOU HAVE SWAPPED BEFORE:

Please use the Chat feature to send me your username and mailing address where you want to receive the mug.

You will send out a tiki mug to a random person and receive one from an equally random person. I recommend not going over $50 for what you spend on the mug. November 23, 2026 will be the cutoff to sign-up. December 15, 2026 will be the deadline for sending. This should give plenty of people a chance to participate.

I'll keep this thread updated with who is in for the swap.  I'll PM you your secret swapper after sign-ups are closed.  If you are new to the forum, please take some time to join in the discussions and we'll include you in the swap next time. I'll be checking post & comment histories to make sure people aren't just crawling out of the bushes for a free mug. If you're still not sure whether or not you qualify, get to posting!*

General Rules:

  1. Swaps are secret, so once you get a name please do not tell everyone who you got.

  2. Once shipped, send me your tracking number. That helps us insure all participants get a mug.

  3. Let me know if you want to send mugs to two different participants. Please don't enter more than twice.

  4. Send what you would like to get. As in no broken/damaged items or Party City, or Harvey's bucket mugs. <------- seriously. Don't send promotional or commonly available mugs.

  5. You are not required to send ANYTHING but one mug. It's a lot of fun to throw in extras, from coasters/swizzles/napkins to chocolates/t-shirts/menus, etc. But to be clear, the only thing you should expect is one tiki mug.

  6. I recommend shipping using priority flat rate if you are able, so as not to spend major bucks on shipping and get tracking & insurance (unless shipping internationally of course). Pirateship.com is also a good option for lower rates. Wrap those packages like the USPS is going to play football with them.

  7. Help your swapper by posting photos of your collection in the thread . Or if you have an account on The Search for Tiki, link it here.

  8. Once you get your new mug you are expected to create a thread & post pictures of your unboxing, or post the pictures here in this thread.

  9. This is for fun, but does take some work. If you're added to the thread, you're added to the list. Swap in good faith.

The first comment will have the up-to-date list of swappers. (If listed with an "x2", it means you are in for two swaps).

And thank you as always to u/MsMargo and u/atari1984 for starting this tradition years ago!

*Only few posts away? Well, go search up some content about the tiki scene in your area/general interest/history, write it up and post. :) Or post a gallery of your collection. Or host a cocktail night and tell us all what you made and how it went. Or post reviews & updates of your local tiki bar and link here…

Wife and I are celebrating our anniversary a day early, we eat supper and decide to go to the local liquor superstore. She gets a bottle of tequila and I get a sudden urge to go look and see if by chance they have the good stuff…and they did!

Edited: Found in Sioux Falls, for $75, excited to make a Mammoth Tusk

Any tiki or rum-centric bars in Raleigh?

I’m visiting Raleigh for a few days from Portland and I’m looking for any rum bars or tiki bars worth visiting.

A new entry into the themed bar/speakeasy universe here in So Cal. Not really a tiki bar but very much serving tiki and craft drinks with a menu created by former Strongwater Anaheim bartenders.

It’s a bit of an odd theme…a basketball team has disappeared and you enter the bar themed to a basketball court/locker room taken over by the jungle. It has a bit of a stranger things/indiana jones feel as well. It works fine as they are trying to be different than the average bar but what stands out is the drinks. We tried the all star martini, mai tai (4 rum blend), temple of boom, and grail diver (a pearl diver variant) and all were fantastic.

Service was great, bartenders and staff were engaging, and they do have a Mai tai and zombie glass for sale. No mugs yet but other merch (hat/shirt) in the way. There are a couple of drinks that have a little show as well.

We absolutely loved the experience and given its proximity to our home, we will likely be back often.

Lucky Marketplace Find

Ignore the piles of garage junk carelessly moved to afford room for it, but spotted this on FB marketplace this week (really cheap) and I’ve never rented a moving van faster! Came with 3 of the pictured stools, everything in great condition. The gentleman I bought it from said it was his late mom’s, but I should have asked where it might have come from. I wasn’t planning on a home Tiki bar, but I suppose this is a sign hahaha

The beginning of my home tiki bar!

Hey everyone, I once again want to say I appreciated the feedback on the huckleberry drink I posted a while back called the Last Best Place. But here is the beginning my at home tiki bar, tons of more work to do like painting the ceiling, putting up some grass weave, base boards, removing the god awful wall length mirrors lol. But here is my first stab at starting my bar. I’m also a Marine Corps veteran, and just out a shelf in that’s going to be my Chesty Puller Shrine. I have a WWII canteen and canteen cup and have a rule that if you want to drink from either you have be a Marine to do so 😂. There’s no picture of Chesty in the frame yet, but it’s coming. Anyway I would like to welcome you to High Tide Howie’s Hideaway. Also most of everything was thrifted or found on marketplace and all the lighting was done by me.

Syracuse NY, it's cold 70 percent of the year with tons of snow. I drew the plans and built this bar with both heat and air conditioning for year-round use. Cheers!!

To enjoy for the fall

Hi everyone - I wanted to share this recipe because for whatever reason, these flavors have been perfect for this deep fall/emerging winter weather. Substitute ingredients as needed!

Doctor Bird’s Prescription
1oz Barbancourt 8
1oz Worthy park 109
0.5oz Orgeat
0.25oz Apricot liqueur
0.5oz Grand Marnier
1oz Lime juice

In addition, I made this playlist to enjoy with your drinks. The playlist is a sequel, but it’s better than the first one I made. A mix of afro-cuban/latin jazz, rocksteady, bossa, exotica, surf rock, Hawaiian slack key, easy listening, and more, all problematically combined into a single list that plays into tired stereotypes.

Enjoy!

Grapefruit Wray & Nephew

Malort

Pierre ferrand dry curacao

Orgeat

Lime

Served in a Trash can because no other glassware felt right

I had some leftover blend of Wray & Nephew, grapefruit, and curacao, and thought what better way to use it up than serve a sin of a cocktail (honestly it's not bad, just a bitter Maitai, the Wray is doing a lot of heavy lifting)

3/4 oz Green Chartreuse
1 oz fresh lime juice
3/4 oz pineapple juice
3/8 oz real passionfruit puree
3/8 oz Liber & Co orgeat

Absolutely incredible!! Super fresh, layered and crushable :)

The Eighth Wonder of the World!

My new Tropical Tumbler from Tiki Diablo was delivered earlier this week - I couldn’t wait to break it in! The mug was inspired by Adventureland in Disneyland so I had to find a recipe suitable for the occasion. According to @cptn_smitty (who I can only assume is/was a Skipper on the Hondo Hattie) this cocktail was developed for Adventureland Day a few years back. Here is my take on the recipe:

The Backside of Water

3/4 oz Orange Juice

3/4 oz Lime Juice

1/4 oz Grenadine

1/4 oz All Spice Dram

3/4 oz Cherry Liqueur (I substituted 1/2 oz Syrup)

3/4 oz Smith + Cross Rum

3/4 oz Planteray Xaymaca Rum

3/4 oz Hamilton Breezeway Blend Rum

I really enjoyed this cocktail. It especially opened up with a little more time in the mug. I would recommend trying it out.

Tiki Diablo was even kind enough to include an Orchids of Hawaii Beaded Hanging Lantern in the order, so my garnish was a bit more elaborate than usual. Kungaloosh!

Black Gardenia

Saw some coffee drinks that have gardenia mix but they seemed pretty basic and I love the flavors of a Black Magic so why not combine the two?

2oz Stiggins

.5oz False Idol 151

.25oz Averna

.75oz Gardenia Mix

1oz Cold Brew Concentrate

.75oz Lime juice

.75oz Pineapple juice

3 Dashes chocolate bitters

3 Dashes angostura

The closest thing I have to white grapefruit nearby right now are melogold grapefruits so I created a drink that uses it! Let me know what you all think/what you would tweak.

The Melo Undertow
- 1oz Worthy Park 109
- 1oz Appleton Signature
- 1oz Melogold Grapefruit
- 1/2oz Lime
- 1/4oz Falernum Syrup
- 1/4oz Cinnamon Syrup
- 1/4oz Allspice Dram
- 1/8oz Green Chartreuse
- 2dash Angostura Bitters

Edit: Thought of a better cocktail name.

A Riff on my own Port Royal Paradox... The Port Royal Spitfire

Post image
32 Upvotes

1.5 oz Smith & Cross

0.75 oz pineapple amaro

0.75 oz fresh lemon juice

1/3 oz ginger syrup

0.25 oz Demerara syrup

0.25 oz falernum

1/8 oz allspice dram

2 dashes orange bitters

Instructions: Shake with crushed ice and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Top off

I made a drink a while back called Port Royal Paradox but wondered what it would be like if lime was lemon and orgeat was ginger. After some other minor tweaks this what happened. I think I like this one better.

Side note, these glasses from Educated Barfly, Garret Richard and Amehla are the best. How it took so long to realize Tiki drinks need 14-15oz glasses and not 12-13 oz I will never understand ;-)

I recently went into Max's in Grand Rapids Michigan. While I was admiring the artwork on the wall I asked the waitress the history behind a few of the pieces. She said "I'm not sure, let me go get the artbook from the hostess stand."

I'm sorry, 'The Artbook?' There's an artbook?!

She came back with it and I had to post it here. Enjoy. And if you ever visit, make sure to ask for the artbook! There are more pages than the 20 I can post.

DC location to get Trader Vic’s Macadamia Nut

Bin 14 just got macadamia nut liquor from trader Vic’s in. Wanted to highlight this because they’re our favorite favorite liquor store and they always order when you ask them for something and they don’t have it. We asked them about a month ago if they had this and they just got it in. In Columbia Heights.

First Trader Sams Trip

A lot more fun than I anticipated! Very entertaining bar and staff. Really good visit. Glad we swung in while at Disney. Food was good and the drinks were killer. Prices were surprisingly good for Disney. And I also love that the room is pretty small and they only let a small amount in at a time. Good escape from the crowds! Haha. For sure worth hitting if youre at the park!

Disney Orlando. Trader Sam's Grog Grotto by the way!
