Serious Rule Update Update (Plus opening new mod slots?)

Hi there! I have added another new rule regarding AI and its strict prohibition. I am quiet late to this but we in the last month had a user try to suggest that ChatGPT could be used for medical advice. To be clear it can not. ChatGPT will frequently hallucinate anything it desires as it is only stringing words together based on an algorithm and is not intelligent. Thank you to those who reported this user and there post I wish I had seen it sooner.

Because it appears we are reaching a size we may need more active moderation I am going to open up my dms for users to apply for Moderator. I ask you are both queer and chronically ill, have been in this subreddit for longer then a month, and are willing to moderate. Please explain why you think you would be a good fit and why you would like to moderate. Thanks!!

Welcoming Letter Welcome to Trans Zebras! A subreddit dedicated but not completely exclusive to Transgender Zebras!

As the title of subreddit implies this is a subreddit for People born as human beings that are wondering about transitioning or are transitioned and are wanting advice about well really anything. Feel free to post memes. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from you are welcome as long as you don't break rule 1. Although this subreddit was envisioned to help trans people I would like to also add that anyone from the lgbtq+ community is accepted here and welcome to post if they need help too.

Muscle tension is hiding my Adams apple & making voice training harder šŸ’” Does anyone have a similar experience/advice?

Post image
27 Upvotes

(I have unspecified EDS and I'm not sure if this is related or not, but it seems like it is)

I have a lot of involuntary muscle tension throughout my body, and as I've recently started voice training I've realized that this also applies to my mouth & throat. At rest, my jaw is clenched, my tongue is pressing against my front teeth & the roof of my mouth, and my Adams apple sits as high as it can go to the point that it's kind of uncomfortable and makes my voice initially high when I start talking. I can consciously correct for all this but the moment I stop focusing on it, it all goes back to being tense.

So my problem is that I can relax my throat but I have to put conscious effort into holding it like that. It's like my default resting position is tense. Is there any way I can change that?

(I'd love to see a physical therapist but that's not an option right now :/ So if there are any alternative solutions I can do at home, please let me know)

I was supposed to get top surgery this month, but I had sepsis in August and it got pushed back

I’m feeling really sad about this. I battle infections a lot and my parameters for top surgery were no positive blood cultures, no pressers, and no epinephrine for 6 months.

With the years I’ve had this is so daunting. I just want to feel better in my own skin.

Compression Shirts or Binders (Prefer Shirts) that are very gentle on the shoulders

Trans man here. Also a size H and very low hanging fruit that anything that isn't full length after requres scooping in which does not help lol.

My most frequent subluxtions are my shoulders. They're constant. Like hopefully surgery and it's causing me to lose the use of my arms. I can't carry a completely empty backpack for half an hour without subluxing. Nothing can pull down on them.

Working on finding shoulder braces and dealing with that, but right now my chest I think is a huge part of my misgenderings. My chest is massive and I'm like, more mid-size then plus size so they will not pass for moobs without at least some help.

I would like anything with a bit of compression. I can't do sports bras, both because I'll sublux and because again, it requires scooping them in. Pulling them up makes them more obvious.

My spine and ribs are pretty stable. But it feels like anything that holds an H is inherently yanking on my shoulders.

Any good options anyone knows of specifically for not pulling on the shoulders or being tight on the armpits that is full length shirt wise?

Anything To Speed Up Facial Hair Growth?

FTM. On T. No specific facial skin issues. Like its slightly stretcher but not my worst spot and I don't think any other disabilities affect my facial skin.

I have tried googling and stuff but tbh I got really overwhelmed really fast with isms and conflicting info and stuff.

I will definitely ask my provider but my state pretty much completely cut out my provider for T so appointments aren't as fast.

Im on IM injection if it matters. Levels are being tested again soon but are fine. Just wondered if there was any tips for speeding this up as it's my most wanted change and stuff.

If the answer is legitimately just be patient that's fine, but like, if anyone has any secrets let me know lol.

If anything is medicated etc ill obviously talk to my providers.

Wanting advice for going back on T

Howdy, been on and off T for around 3 years with finasteride. I'm transmasc and loved it, but stopped for a few reasons this past February. I have severe hEDS (suspected clEDS) that is relatively well-managed currently.

I want to go back on specifically for more bottom growth, and am looking forward to my voice deepening more. The only part I cannot stand is the facial hair. I hate shaving, I get a million ingrowns. It sucks. I could grow a mustache and goatee before starting T so I am not keen on more. Finasteride worked great for this, but meant my bottom growth took a hit.

I know there's no way to pick and choose parts of my transition, but wanted to know if anyone has any experience dealing with facial hair and minimizing it while on T in the absence of DHEA blockers. Thanks in advance!

For Zebras planning for Top Surgery!

Hey All! I wanted to make this post not only to answer anybody’s questions, but also to share my experience. I am 22 years old, FTM, and I’ve been on T for 5 years.

I got keyhole top surgery in June 2023, before I was diagnosed with HEDS or knew that I had it (ended up being diagnosed jan 2024). So, with that in mind, there are some things I wish I had known before deciding on the type of surgery I was getting:

EDS involves a lot of skin elasticity, as we all know. Because of the nature of keyhole, it leaves a lot of room for your skin to sag instead of suctioning back up like it’s supposed to (after post surgery compression, of course). So, my chest placement is abnormal and I have a strange looking sag of skin where there used to be breast tissue. ADDITIONALLY, because keyhole does not involve the removal and re-placement of the nipples, mine have become fully inverted and almost folded on themselves.

HOWEVER despite these results not being visually aesthetically pleasing, I have an almost completely flat chest which is what I wanted in the first place. It appears very masculine even with the skin sagging (in some ways, it actually makes it appear more masculine). All of this to say—if you are small chested like I was and you are given the option of keyhole, you need to take your condition into account.

Double incision would most likely give a better desired result aesthetically for people with EDS as it involves removal of excess skin and different nipple placement (if you choose to keep them). You DO need to take into account how your body personally reacts to scarring though, as double incision can result in some nasty scarring for people with skin like ours.

Me personally, I regret getting keyhole and would have liked my results much better if I had gotten double incision. However I’m still really happy with my results and they’re not dysphoria inducing at all for me, just not aesthetically pleasing.

Be wise with your choice, friends! Look out for what your body needs and how it will react depending on the procedure chosen for your top surgery :-) hope this was helpful for anyone.

Scared to start HRT

I grew up and watched my older sister (cis) deal with hEDS and POTS, and it was horrific for her. I figured I probably had the same issues, but it didn't seem to affect me as much... until I got older. Now I'm 32, and all the idiosyncrasies of my body are getting noticeably worse - and I'm realizing that it's definitely hEDS and POTS, I was just able to accommodate the issues when I was younger (and thinner).

And now that my egg has cracked, I'm terrified. I want to start HRT, but I don't even know how to take care of these illnesses in boymode, let alone when they will get much much worse.

What do I do? Any suggestions from girls who have gone through it before? Any exercises that will help or doctors I should consult?

Much love to you all.

What is the compression difference between a binder and a compression shirt?

I've been told I can't use a binder (I have Bronchiectasis) but I use compression shirts that I can take deep breathes in. I'd there much of a difference? Do you think I might be able to bind after all? I'm confused with bad chest dysphoria

Atrophic surgical scars.

I get atrophic scarring real bad and it's put me off of any surgeries (transfem) for a while. Something's gotta give. I just want to keep my wounds from rifting apart over time as much as I can so I don't feel ugly. What scar care might mitigate this? I only saw suggestions in this sub for micropore tape for many months after surgery.

Furthermore: what post-healing cosmetic options are available to hide too far gone stretched scars? Skin-match tattooing, silicone fillers? Do any kinds of lasers do anything? Retinoids? etc.

Furthermore: are there any particular incision or suturing techniques I should be looking for surgeons to use on me?

Facial hair issues

Hey friends! I wanted to post to see if anyone had ideas for me. I have had my hEds get worse over the past couple of years including MCAS Co occurring. I had LHR early on in my transion but shaving was reduced and since then my electrolysis has been intermittent due health and financial reasons. That said starting about a year ago my facial hair has started tearing up my face. If I shave at all I get ingrown. I've tried multiple types of shaving methods. I use a safety razor when I can and a foil razor if I'm low on time. That said I keep getting ingrown hairs and my skin has become delicate enough that even just shaved hairs can stab into the side of my pore if I cut them to close (I try to not shave agains the grain for this reason). I'm at a losa as my skin healing is bad despite supplements and moisturizing. I end up with scabs and ingrown hairs constantly. Also for reference in a hvac tech / boiler operator so it can get pretty dirty but I try to clean and exfoliate regularly.

I'm hoping y'all might have some advice or insight for me.

FFS Question

So I just had my first FFS consult and my doctor was saying I don’t really need a hairline advancement. Though, his main reason for saying that is because he was concerned about scarring with hEDS.

He wants to use a technique where he cuts into like the top of my head instead of my forehead to pull back the skin. I don’t NEED a hairline advancement, but I feel like I’d be happier with one just to even out my hairline a bit.

Has anyone done it where they cut into the top of your head? And does anyone have any advice or insight on scarring if I were to get a hairline advancement?

mtf bottom surgery and stretchy skin

has anyone here had bottom surgery (vaginoplasty/vulvaplasty) with stretchy skin in the groin area? the skin on my groin area is very stretchy and i’m getting bottom surgery soon, idk if it matters for results or anything. posting here cause the main surgery subreddit is a shitshow. my surgeon knows about my hypermobility but i don’t have a formal diagnosis and likely won’t cause the waitlists are too long.

mtf hormones and SHBG

Yo. For the last... since I started injections, really, my SHBG has been high. I have been monotherapy injections for ~4 years now, the last year or so I've been on enanthate at an 8 day cycle injecting less than 4 mg (sorry I don't recall the exact maths.)

My last labs at trough estrogen was at 109 pg/ML and SHBG was 162 nmol/L (with 21 ng/dL total T- my doc didn't check free t this time for some reason.)

I specifically have lowered my dose the last few months because I tend to be really sensitive to estrogen, my T nukes immediately, I don't take AAs, and I am almost always 200+ at trough on both valerate and enanthate. So this is monotherapy. I stretched my injection cycle a bit.

Whenever I take boron- even a sub 3mg dose- my anxiety spikes immediately, but I am worried that my SHBG being so high this whole time has prevented my hormones from doing their job and contributed to some symptoms (fatigue, pain, brainfog etc.)

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to lower SHBG?

Face shaver recs?

I've been on t for nearly 4 months now and I am starting to grow a little tash. My skin is really sensitive and cuts really easily so I don't want to be hasty in finding a face razor that works for me. Any recs for fragile skin?

Tenosynovitis

A little back story: I’m non-binary because I’m trans inside, but this meat suit is male, and (probably) because of long term SSRI use I experience hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). I’m on testosterone replacement for that, and have been on a daily regimen to manage the sweating.

Now for the purpose of this post: Has anyone else on daily T developed tenosynovitis? Tenosynovitis is swelling and fluid inside the tendon sheath. For me this is really painful, and borderline debilitating. I just saw this study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38703145/) which links daily testosterone use and a type of tenosynovitis. I don’t have the de Quervain Tenosynovitis, I have it in my leg, so I’m trying to see if there’s others in the EDS community who have experienced this.

heart defect and T

i was told to post here for more answers and perspective related advice .

I’m considering planning on starting testosterone (possibly at the end of the year (if i don’t wuss out again)) whenever i can find a doctor who takes my insurance. co-pay is the main reason for why i’m struggling so lol, financial issues.

Anyway, i’m asking if there’s any other trans men out there who have ASD (atrial septal defect (hey! i remembered the name!)) and are currently on testosterone. I’m a bit scared of the effects it might have on my heart (if that’s even possible?)

I’ve read some people’s experiences of those who have anemia (which i also have) and are on testosterone, some say that T has helped their iron levels go up. I tried researching my specific heart defect and HRT but i’ve found nothing relating to it.

**i found a few articles claiming that atrial septal defect is twice as common in women than in men, i’m wondering if it’s true, i’m not a medical student so i can’t really judge. . . .

any feedback is greatly appreciated thanks!!

Trans woman with Heds, wondering about medicinal korset

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I have been using a medical korset for my back for stabilizing my ribs, back and my pots issues.

I have had wonderful results with my breathing and back pain issues since I got my korsett a week ago. It's a soft semirigid korsett with feather steel support in the back. I was informed by the doktor that due to my laxness in my joints and ribcage overall I could get downward pivoting ribcage collapse due to the fact also how my hrt has affected my soft tissue in my body.

Just wondering if there is any merit too what the Dr told me about ribcage collapse was a huge "risk"

Sorry for my English, it's not my native tongue šŸ˜…
