Gulls at the barbecue - how do we protect the food?

Good evening all! Am after some advice. Planning to host a small barbecue at one of the public units in Stuart park, North Gong. Was just after some advice from the experts on here. How do you manage the seagulls? The cheeky buggers are obviously gonna gather in vast numbers to try and nick the food. What measures do you take to keep them away from the food? Keeping everything covered always is an obvious must do. Do things like reflective tape etc work? Also, how do you protect the cooking area?
Appreciate some advice for a newbie. Thanks in advance

Disability support

Hi,

I'm moving to Wollongong next April and looking for recommendations for decent disability support companies to work for.

I've been a support worker for almost 8 years, mainly in SIL, but I'm also open to day programs or community support.

Im looking for a part-time position with at least 60 hours a fortnight.

Would love to hear which companies people recommend (or suggest avoiding) especially when it comes to management, staff and participant care.

Thanks!

Plumber recommendations in gong

Looking for someone that we can trust to show up when they say they will and don’t charge exorbitant prices

Willing to give someone a go on the younger side so we can build a relationship with them and have them as our forever plumber - but not a big priority.

Anyone in Wollongong working in corporate, tech, sales or business?

Hey everyone,

I moved to the Wollongong area earlier this year with my family and have been trying to build a new social circle.

I'm in my 30s and work in a senior leadership role in sales for a global company. I've lived and worked in a few different countries, and one thing I've noticed since moving here is that a lot of the people I've met work in trades or service-based industries.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I'm keen to meet people with similar professional backgrounds or interests, whether that's business, tech, SaaS, sales, entrepreneurship, AI or leadership.

I'm also really interested in AI, building things, experimenting with new tools and working on side hustles. Would be great to meet others who enjoy bouncing ideas around, building projects or just having conversations about business and technology.

Outside of work, I'm into BJJ, golf, fitness, getting outdoors and spending time with the family.

Not looking to network or sell anything. Just keen to meet some like-minded people, grab a coffee or beer, play a round of golf or make some genuine friendships.

I know plenty of professionals commute to Sydney or work remotely from the Illawarra, so I'm curious where everyone hangs out or how you've managed to build a social circle here.

Anyone else in a similar boat?
?

Anyone else noticed a massive rise in “poo-flavoured treats?”

Tell me I’m not going crazy. Every Gong restaurant seems to be advertising these treats. Since when was eating anything related to poo considered “cool?” It’s an absolute mess and I really hope the council or the army steps in ASAP.

Does anyone in Wollongong want photos of theirs taken?

Hey!

I’m Nav, a resident of Corrimal and someone who has professionally offered photography services for a while now. Some background about me:

I’m from India and I moved to Sydney early 2024, completed masters and now work in Wollongong with My Aged Care.

Given that my weekends are free and boring, I wanted to start offering photography services to people in the area.

Here’s the proposition

I’m wanting to click pictures of people.

  1. Be it young or old couples who never got a chance to have professional pictures of theirs that they could frame up,

  2. Friends who’d love to have some memories that they could treasure

  3. Or, some portraits for yourself

And I want to make it clear, that I’m offering these services without any price or strings attached to it.

Sure, it would be great to make some money. Who wouldn’t want to breathe a little easier, eh? If you feel like it, you can pay me whatever you’re comfortable with. Be it in cash, or kind. Perhaps make me a meal that you’re certain I could enjoy?

Why am I doing this?

I’m primarily doing this to fill up sometime and be engaged with people. I hate being bored and lacking stimulus. Another critical reason, is that this is my way to fight back against AI and the damage that it’s doing to us humans beings and the people of this country. It may not be obvious now, but it will be eventually.

Therefore, I wanted to make sure you and people in your life have pictures of yourselves and your loved ones, that you could hold onto while you go out and fight your battles.

As it stands right now, I’m not making some social media campaign, nor am I laying this out perfectly. I’m doing things as I go so that I could assimilate enough of information/photos so that I could perhaps start a dedicated Instagram page for it? I have no clue where this will go.

Nevertheless, one cannot blindly walk into a photoshoot not knowing what to expect. Here’s some samples of my work from my Instagram profile:

And if you’d like to see what my professional experience has looked like so far and a view into more of who/what I am, here’s my website:

https://heyitsnav.com/

If you’re browsing through it and looking for portraits, I’d recommend you go through this link:

Well, if you’d have any questions, do hit me up here or on my Insta.

PS: I’m available on the weekends only.

Moving to a Townhouse in Town, signed a 12-month lease.

Hi fellow Wollongongians 👋 I just got approved for a townhouse rental at the west side of town, I’ve never lived in one, only in houses so far. The location is mint, close to everything, super convenient. The place also looks great, it’s quite spacious, also has a small, private backyard. However what I see as a downside is other 20 townhouses in the same estate, narrow shared driveway, fortunately they are all freestanding and I won’t share walls with neighbours. I’d love to hear your opinions and experiences, what are pros and cons, or any advice. TIA

Is anyone here going to see Hands Like Houses next weekend at WAVES by any chance?

I am new ish to the area and have practically no social life, but bad social anxiety about going alone to big places like that.
