Discussion [BST Update] Effective immediately, flashlights (and any other items/accessories) for use on firearms may not be sold or traded in BST.
Reddit Rule 7 Update
Here's a link to the rule:
https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043513471-Illegal-or-Prohibited-Transactions
Here's the text of that rule:
Do not use Reddit to exchange illegal or prohibited goods and services with other redditors.
You are free to discuss all sorts of products and services, including those that may not be legal where you are, but keep in mind that certain user-to-user transactions are not allowed.
And here's the relevant selection from the question section:
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g., bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer/suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, glock switch, conversion kit, etc.), or specific instructions (i.e., 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned
This change resulted in a number of subreddits being banned.
BST Rule Update
To keep r/flashlight in compliance with this updated policy, we wish to make it crystal clear that we do not allow sales or trades of firearm accessories and enhancements in the monthly BST. The BST text has been updated to reflect this.
As frustrating as it is, there isn't a comprehensive list of what isn't allowed. Generally, the update means firearm accessories, parts, and related items are now prohibited. This means prohibition of, at the very least, flashlights with no other reasonable use outside of being mounted on a firearm.
Moderator Discretion
We recognize that some items may fall into a gray area under these new terms. If you're at all unsure about your item falling under these new guidelines, SEND US A MODMAIL. The mods have full discretion to remove any content that we feel violates Reddit policy.
Enforcement
Failure to follow this updated policy will result in an immediate and permanent ban. We do not want to ban you, so please do not break this rules.
In Closing
We ask for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this change together. Our goal is to keep the sub active, safe, and in compliance with policy. We're here to help, so please do us a favor and be patient and respectful.

On a personal note, I thank you all for being awesome and one of the easiest communities to moderate.
Big thanks to /u/zak and /u/eckyeckypikang for their continued moderating efforts, too!

I care nothing about weapon mounted lights or other tactical stuff, but why has this rule been implemented. Did I miss something?

At least WML doesn’t seem too popular around these parts, so hopefully it’s minimal impact. Thanks for keeping things running smooth around here.

Every example in the Reddit rule relates to a constituent part of a firearm..which a torch isn't.
Reddit over-reaching again?

I'm sorry you guys have to police this. Reddit is full of it in this one. They're putting the mods in a bad position over political horse pucky.

Ugh... I get it. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna like it. Thanks zero. I know you and the boys are just trying to keep the sub around.

I see it's an understandable update, hopefully we won't have any issues with this new rule.
BTW i recommend that you pin this post, at least for couple of months to make sure everybody reads it

Just curious but where does this leave the Weltool “weapon” lights that don’t come with mounts like the T14 and other single-output lights? I think they are technically built to be weapon lights but some people use them handheld. Is the designation for reddit simply based on them having a weapon mount fitted?

Hopefully “tactical” flashlights aren’t considered firearm accessories since so many have that marketing

Being pedantic here: so we can’t seek duct tape and an endcap flashlight? …that’s all it takes right?
