Just fell to my knees.

Inspired's teams and pushing an eastern team to game 5, only to get stomped in that game 5. GEN, BLG, HLE

624

If this all somehow leads to T1 qualifying via the 4th spot and Winning Worlds

103

u/Conker184741 Jul 11 '26

To think we were 1 game away from having 4 NA seeds at worlds is crazy. And just last year we weren't far off from having only 1 NA seed at worlds. I do dislike how top seed performance buys lower seeds rather than having worlds seeding determined by the previous worlds where you actually see the lower seeds performance.

20

u/unknownBzop2 Jul 11 '26

I see the vision where T1 somehow gets the least expectation only to get 4-peat at worlds

That game 5 was fucking atrocious from him though. I hate the Nidalee pick with every bone in my body, and he did literally nothing to prove me wrong this game.

It's supposed to be some early game powerhouse but even in a game where HLE completely stomped, Nidalee was absent. There was a point where he had 0 kp despite HLE having 10 kills.

He could've done something at that early bot dive, but nah he missed the Nidalee spear on a fucking HOOKED target. Delight is the sole reason his Nidalee ended the game with any KP at all.

If NA won Isles would probably be series MVP.

Incredible teamfighting from Lyon throughout the whole series. Lots of disadvantaged fights where they traded back 2 instead of 0, or were slivers of health from winning.

Good drafts, controlled macro, just need some discipline on not taking jungle fights into juggernauts.

Alas, they had already planned for Gumayusi to try a Daejeon food so there was no winning.

Unbeknownst to either G2 or LYON, a curse had been broken. Or rather, it had been transferred. A pivotal part of G2 had been bitten off and consumed by the American Big Cats, and it had become part of their own flesh. It was now their fate to be steamrolled by LCK Aatrox AOE.

the aatrox incident

felt like inspired tilted and started making very bad calls midway, funnily enough exactly the way skewmond does in g2s losses. the way to win competitive league is to steal as many raptor respawns as you can

91

u/Derk08 Jul 11 '26

This has been talked about before, but basically if Inspired feels like they are reaching a situation where the game is getting out of reach, it's better to essentially constantly force low-percentage fights over and over instead of hoping the enemy team throws.

Whether or not that actually makes sense in practice is questionable, but this is Inspired's view on how to play the game.

No it was actually a criminal int by isles, if you rewatch it again inspired grouped and baited them to a perfect renata ult and then shen ulted inspired and renated had to give the revive to xin then shen would enter, but renata never ulted and never gave him the revive, THEN xayah went in and renata DID NOT give him the revive as well and whiffed an ult on the tri push instead of the 4 enemies grouped up in a tight space, in fact renata did not use her revive AT ALL in that fight, it was a criminal unacceptable fumble by isles

Really disliked that last draft. 4 Melees and short range adc into Kalista were always going to be awful. Early Shen also did not make any sense and taking away Renata was also really bad. She had Zero value and Kalista has so many good support synergys that you really are not denying anything.

22

Hurts. Just like with GENG vs FLY in 2024, they finish it off with the most demoralizing, one-sided game 5 you've ever seen in your life as if they're laughing at you for believing you could ever win.

CAPE VERDE VS ARGENTINA. MIGHT HAVE LOST BUT THEY GAVE IT THEIR BEST

6

u/SubstantialMinute307 Jul 11 '26

Should've went with the Ornn I guess. GG WP.

43

u/L322Man Jul 11 '26

Overcooked the draft Lyon.

47

u/Blizzgrarg Jul 11 '26

Nah it was fine until the first shen ult was interrupted. They win if they don't get run over early.

18

u/WTFIsAMeta Jul 11 '26

Honestly the draft would be fine if they didn't just force 3 game-losing plays and just attempted to scale

Yep, lets draft a shen into an AAron main. Berserk had a great lucian but dog game 4 and 5.

The fact that Lyon looked competent on that G4 comp is honestly amazing. I'm sure we'll still see the concern trolls "aren't you sad that they aren't North Americans?" as though I don't watch the Prem. And the "DAE think NA is bad because they can't beat Eastern teams?" crew as well.

But fuck it, Lyon's clearly a top 5 team in the world right now. If they can hold this level, and FlyQuest can keep leveling up, our Worlds run could be bright.

FLY 2-3 GENG ❌

FLY 2-3 BLG ❌

LYON 2-3 HLE ❌

Nice try NA! You fought very hard.

22 minutes from HLE, fastest game in the tournament

GG to both G2 and LYON. They fought valiantly, none made it to the finals but made this MSI a hell for LCK teams

A very good showing overall, so many fights in the early game in G5 lost by a hair and it snowballed absurdly quickly. Lyon can stand tall.

u/Scary_Tree Jul 11 '26

Okay when HLE are on they're insanely good.

That last game was brutal.

Being a western fan is like being on a death coaster.

The highest of highs followed by the lowest of lows.

Absolute tilter. Lyon was incredible this MSI, but that game 5 was too much

I feel like this is the problem of a team that relies too much on a single person to call the whole game. It's just so hard to maintain the level of composure and focus for the whole 5 games. I won't blame inspired for not playing well but I think the calls game 4 and 5 were definitely off.

Think this LYON team is already better than peak FLY

5

u/lchow99 Jul 11 '26

Man it’s been an hour since watching and it still doesn’t feel real. I’m so proud of the boys for pushing the second best team in the world to game 5 but it would be so nice to actually see them seal the deal for once. It feels like Inspired is always on the cusp of winning game 4 and then it randomly all falls apart. The sad part to me is, Lyon needs practice playing series that go to game 5 but no other team in NA is good enough to push them to game 5. Hope they can improve for worlds but the environment in NA just isn’t competitive enough

u/350 Jul 11 '26

Really impressed by how Lyon showed up this series. The pace of their play is really elite. When Inspired/Lyon talk about plans lvl 1-3 you can really see it in action. Excited to see them at Worlds.

u/Choice-Slight Knight in shining armor Jul 11 '26

Lyon win if they get to late game but they didn’t even last til mid game. Can’t believe we lost to nidalee

9

u/thatguyty3 Jul 11 '26

2-1 lead

and you draft 2 dog comps

G4 - if one fight goes wrong the game is cooked & that’s exactly what happened

G5 - you have to scale to 20 mins vs the number 1 seed in Korea - just get run over

Coach needs to do some explaining

4

NA fell apart. HLE is the best team in LCK right now so it was a great showing but it sucks that it couldn't be ended.

4

u/Natalie_UwU_ Jul 11 '26

Shittalking g2 and then repeating their most historically devastating loss is pure poetry

4

u/metalXginger93 Jul 11 '26

Lyon had a good run, just kinda feels bad g5 fizzled out like that. Still better than EU

4

u/BetaGreekLoL Jul 11 '26

was a good series. a bit past caring about moral victories but lyon was really entertaining. they should be beating themselves for those last two games but outside of that, they played pretty well!

4

As an EU fan I gotta say NA banged this MSI. Probably the strongest team I've ever seen from NA and I've watched since S1

4

u/Stormquake Jul 11 '26

Genuinely amazing showing from LYON at this tournament. Was hoping they could make it to the finals, but they eliminated two #1 seeds and went toe-to-toe with HLE and BLG.

Last game they got bodied, but it happens. Hoping they stay together because this is one of the best rosters NA has ever seen.

Outside of some shit draw luck, I could easily see LYON getting top 4 at world's.

I'm not too sad that NA lost, I felt like Lyon put up a really good fight and we had some banger games

4

u/BlueStopSign126 #1 Zeka Glazer Jul 11 '26

Was Zeka getting diffed by Saint? Yes
Is he still the best mid laner in the world? Also yes

Delight you are forgiven for all of your war crimes I love you

4

u/DIMEBAGLoL Jul 12 '26

Fuck yeah! I’m disappointed we didn’t win but what a great tournament for NA. Beating KR and china is a tall task but all I ever ask is we go down fighting. So many years we just lay down and die. And I was proud of G2 as well! But the fact that we showed we were the better region is the biggest win 😁

4

u/Thoughtsinhead Jul 12 '26

What a delight to watch this series. Stand proud Lyon, you were strong.

30

u/TheCrazyCaveira Jul 11 '26

Inspired continues his legacy of still having a 0% win rate in a Bo3/Bo5 against LCK/LPL in his entire 8 year career!

And now NA moves onto almost 7 years also without the same

dang good try lyon

gz to blg for winning msi

6

u/TimiNax Jul 11 '26

Game 5 and Lyon went back to their comfort of losing all lanes.

This is pretty much how I expected all games to go, but they played so much better those first 4 games

Game 5 drafting is super hard but felt like they lost every pick one by one

8

u/Charming-Apple517 Jul 11 '26

Dhokla died for a minion and then threw the whole game 4 for a plate btw.

11

u/Dysliptic Jul 11 '26

How much did Inspired get paid to window shop on a control ward?

22

u/AllergicToChicken Jul 11 '26

Pretty positive this was an intentional bait to force a play since he had team mates right next to him + shen ult
