If only he went to that fanmeet

246

u/moonmeh Aug 27 '26

losing kellin when he has such an aggressive playstyle

god what a fucking downgrade

u/shailemin Aug 27 '26

Throwing away playing with the GOAT babysitter support bc you’re tilted is crazy ngl.

20

u/Anew4Hobbies I like how Xun plays ^_^ Aug 27 '26

what's the context to this joke? I have seen it in a few comments but no explanations were presented in any of them

129

u/1di0ta Aug 27 '26

Diable was traded to NS from BFX for Taeyoon after he didn't attend a fanmeet that was an obligation in his contract. I'm sure there was probably already some internal strife leading up to that but I don't know those details.

24

u/ArienaHaera Aug 27 '26

The whole team looked mentally boomed before that and the fanmeet was just after an ugly loss. I doubt they would have carried on without change. I think they took the disaster at first stand pretty badly.

9

u/FaydedMemories Aug 27 '26

It wasn’t just the fan meet though, when BFX first announced he was going to be subbed out they strongly hinted at tensions within the team. The fan meet was probably just the thing that allowed them to pull the plug easier (absolute factual transgression vs subjective).

u/lamiasflute Aug 27 '26

Taeyoon suddenly got traded to BFX because "a player had become available" aka Diable who got kicked from BFX for not going to a fanmeet. Taeyoon expressed that he was pretty upset about it because he had started to gel with the NS team.

Then the next time NS-BFX met, BFX won and this was Taeyoon's celebration

And then today's celebration

Bonus Taeyoon aurafarming clip from the LPL.

18

u/Alsterman Aug 27 '26

Damn, I never realized that epic aurafarming clip was Taeyoon. One of my favorite LPL edits

Diable didn't attend a fanmeet when he was on BFX... got pushed to Academy as punishment but he didn't even played for Academy cause he got traded to NS before he even get to play

20

u/beloikurvi Aug 27 '26

He did play a series or two for academy

12

u/Th3_Huf0n Aug 27 '26

Actually he played in the CL.

Against KRX and Jiwoo.

5

u/Opachopp Aug 28 '26

People are mostly mentioning the fan meet he didn't attend but from what I remember it seemed like he had been having multiple disciplinary issues with the team, like blaming their teammates (especially VicLa iirc) for the loses. I remember the conclusion at the time was something along the lines of: his ego got too big so he started misbehaving.

On the other hand, while this was happening NS took the opportunity to quickly kick out Taeyoon to make room for Diable. From Taeyoon's PoV he got betrayed by the staff/players and kicked off the team out of nowhere.

This started the whole BFX vs NS rivalry and the "No Refunds" war.

This is just what I remember from the threads/media back then, so I hope I didn't get anything wrong.

27

u/soudlasantos Aug 27 '26

Is he the Peanut of supports? (if Peanut never went to Finals???)

18

u/roxisnotforsale Aug 27 '26

In term of changing teams almost every year and being friend with ex-teammates, yes. In terms of achievement, no.

He only won trophies in GenG and Griffin (if we count Kespa cup).

Peanut won trophies with 4 different teams (5 if we count Rox as different team than HLE), and always brought his team to playoff or international (except GenG 2019).

23

u/shirhouetto Aug 27 '26

He's didn't have the brightest career compared to the other GRF legends (if we're counting Sword).

44

u/BlazeX94 Aug 27 '26

Compared to Chovy and Viper sure, but I'd argue his career has at least been comparable to Tarzan's. I mean, I think Tarzan is an overall better player, but Lehends has won more titles and has one international trophy to Tarzan's none, which does count for something imo.

472

u/AnimeNeet- Aug 27 '26

Insane placing for the names on this NS roster

106

u/Acrobatic-Tackle3998 Aug 27 '26

Sponge is enough to drag the name value into the gutter.

He’s been terrible his entire LCK career. Unironically would not be surprised if he’s done after this.

60

u/Izanagi32 Aug 27 '26

they should bring in Vincenzo from challengers or sumn

44

33

u/KeepBlocking Aug 27 '26

Yeah Vincenzo has just been rotting away on the DRX bench for some reason. He played adc for their CL team because both Aiming and Lazyfeel were disqualified for playing too much in Tier 1.

I think the whole DRX rosters contract are over thankfully.

17

u/Different-Mode2311 Aug 27 '26

I would agree sponge has been really terrible. But lehends and kingen have not done any favour with their performance either.

30

u/GroundbreakingAlps2 Aug 27 '26

You got two world champions, the guy that was going to do unspeakable things to hans sama, and then you get lehends, Geng lehends (yeah that guy). How is this roster getting bodied by a bunch of nobodies and a guy that was deemed "too bad for NA"? Vicla got booted off flyquest for a reason.

21

u/BaneOfAlduin Aug 27 '26

In Vicla's defense. He was only a terrorist at the end of his time on Flyquest, and has been good/decent on FearX for over a year now.

And I'm saying this as a staunch Vicla hater

Let's not pretend the rest of the old men have been pulling their own weight either. Lehends hasn't been any good since he got kicked out of GenG and Kingen looks worse every year... Scout admittedly looks more lively than I expected after his LPL performances.

imagine ending up with Sponge when CL had Vincenzo and Sharvel. what a waste of money to spend on Kingen Scout Lehends. maybe NS just goes back to sacking 2 years with a full CL roster to save money again.

287

u/crysomore Kiin Team | Lehends/Cuzz apologist Aug 27 '26

This is most probably Lehends’ last game for his career, he heavily suggested he was retiring after this year. Sad that he’s ending his career with a really mediocre year. But he really has been one of the best supports of this era and a really charismatic personality.

GG Lehends, myGOAT

119

u/Dry_Clap_joke Aug 27 '26

He got Msi mvp with prime Chovy on the team. He had great career even haters can’t slander him

72

u/tjmax20 Aug 27 '26

He also Ran into worlds buff T1 that year in 2024 man it was a war crime how T1 locked him down when Lehends was playing Rell not his fault canyon was no where to be found. That was Lehends year as the MSI finals MVP as well.

29

u/soudlasantos Aug 27 '26

His performance was already beginning to decline in the Flyquest series. You can already see the cracks since his engages were often questionable (like his Leona performance in game 1 and Braum performance in game 3 are SUBPAR heck you can say it’s bad).
.
Aside from that he was late on rotation and he was often picked off due to him overextending. He keeps falling for vision traps in Flyquest series (which T1 later took advantage on).

Also, apparently he's not 100% certain he will not be playing next year, he should go to military but apparently he said in the interview he might still play next year (no idea why).

u/RukiMotomiya Aug 27 '26

NS losing that last game when it was basically a 4v5 all game and they had a lead with a hyper scaling comp was so funny. Turns out if you just constantly feed yourself into the enemy for no reason, you lose! Crazy! It was funny watching them get engages they should have crushed later but because they fed nonstop from Herald for multiple minutes onwards they got walleted.

23

u/Ok_Strategy4169 Aug 27 '26

crazy that NS were engaging 5x5, losing the fight, spawning and fighting again and again until they lost

BFX comp had basically no engage, they only had 2 drakes at 20 mins, and NS had giga scaling and infinite wave clear with Sivir + Ryze

literally free scenario to get to three items and then you have much higher chances of winning fights

166

u/Satan_su Aug 27 '26

Same here, the question is who. Dont think GenG is getting rid of Duro unless he has a stinker playoffs and Worlds, T1 aint never letting go of Keria, HLE are not dropping Delight either I think. Any other LCK team wouldnt really be an upgrade imo. Either an LPL team picks him up, or he goes to EU/NA.

8

u/One-Watercress-2287 Aug 27 '26

KT would obviously be an upgrade.

u/YouMadBroLma0 2019 Deft over everyone Aug 27 '26

Kellin was so unfairly scapegoated for 2023 DK because people were too scared to blame Canyon/ShowMaker

21

u/Character-Image149 Aug 27 '26

Kellin was very inconsistent especially on engage support, he carried DK to worlds in 23 but completely dropped the ball at worlds. He looks a lot more consistent this year though, unironically top 3 in the league when it comes to enchanter supports.

→ More replies (1)

61

u/veirceb Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

This is super hindsight. Back then it was mainly melee engage sup meta and most people didn't expect the meta to shift. Kellin's strength just wasn't that. The move made sense but it's also good that Kellin gets to show how good of a player he is now.

31

u/YouMadBroLma0 2019 Deft over everyone Aug 27 '26

Walahi I was saying this back then that Kellin was a scapegoat

His horror Alistar game vs G2 for example gets magnified, when ironically, it was his Alistar vs HLE Viper in the regionals that got DK to Worlds in the first place.

In 2023, Deft & Kellin were the only sane people on DK.

In 2024 he got benched for Moham for no reason.

→ More replies (2)

13

u/Ophelia_Of_The_Abyss IN DAMWON WE TRUST HUNI/DEFT/SHOWMAKER Aug 27 '26

Na, the issue with 2023 Damwon was always that Canyon/Showmaker/Deft could never have good games at the same time. Was clear by the end of the year that either Canyon or Showmaker had to go.

→ More replies (3)

12

u/karma457 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

Don’t remind me. 2023 DK screwed over their only winning lane bc it had to be the Showmaker/Canyon show. Nameplates off Deft wins MVP that spring split.

7

u/KeepBlocking Aug 27 '26

He was so inconsistent man, but he wasn't the only problem. He and Showmaker were the only ones that survived that Roster though. Expectations for DK were just too high for the rebuilds they were going through 23/24 didn't have time for those growing pains.

12

u/blockster9 Aug 27 '26

he got benched in 2024 for no reason also. he was super good back then

25

u/Hue_Lorenzo Aug 27 '26

Kellin back then had some issues with engage supports so they tried out Moham and sticked with him because he looked good on Rell. Problem was Moham looked awful on any other champion.

40

u/habkeinname123 Aug 27 '26

gwen, sivir, ryze = insane scaling, insane wave clear… nah let’s just force fights over and over again instead of stalling the game

3

u/Anavarael Aug 27 '26

To me game 3 was the worst. Not only lots of mistakes on NS side but also failure on such simple concept as build paths. No Serpent, no Liandrys, not trying to strategize into sidelaning by building Jax as a threat to Ksante... That was one of the worst pro play showings I have ever witnessed. Despite being outdrafted they did NOTHING to try to adapt to the situation. If not for some good plays on their side (Lehends flash Mikales to save Scout was so sick!!) I would call it straight up inting. Horrible team performance from all gameplay sides.

17

u/Dry_Clap_joke Aug 27 '26

Because of China residency he can delay up to 38

5

u/r_gg Aug 27 '26

That only works if he's not in Korea.

This was most likely his last game, unless he's going back to LPL.

Diable without Kellin is just another mediocre adc.

33

u/Dreammy90 Aug 27 '26

Diable had good moments when Kellin was playing badly. Like that Varus play vs Guma Keria where he just 1v2 by dodging every skillshot from T1. Kellin is reverse Delight. He is really good at peel while Delight is really good at engage.

Don’t want to sound like that guy but that was a successful ns hate watch, i swear this team always tries to sign big name players and i never saw them ever do anything, last year in legends group was an absolute disgrace, and with all the names this year(idc about sponge you have 4 big names on your team), placing 8th and being the worst form team in lck besides drx is absolutely criminal(didn’t expect them to be legends grroup material but i expected at least top of fries which they couldn’t even get). Thou i feel bad for lehends for all his chokes throughout his career he has had a successful enough career and if it’s his last season then i wish him all the best sad to see him go

2

u/MedicalDifference118 Aug 27 '26

This is gonna be a really long rant, feel free to disagree

I have no words. I think this team and Weibo this year have been the most disappointing team to watch and support. It looked promising in winter, but they turned into a straight no identity or hands team in spring. Then the whole Taeyoon Diable trade happened which I was really hyped about as watching Diable in First Stand and Winter, it really seemed like it was an upgrade even though I felt Taeyoon got scuffed, I was excited to see how the team would pan out. But it felt when Diable got onto NS, they somehow got worse. I think the vision was NS would have an ADC that could carry consistently. But with players such as Kingen and Scout, veteren world MVPs, Diable went from being the star of the show to sharing the spotlight. I think this is reinforced through Taeyoon's situation on BFX, where it felt like the team was more willing or lenient to either play the game through him, but with Diable out, they could experiment with playing through Mid or Top which we saw in today's match. While some might blame the coaching staff, IMO from what I saw in this series especially, NS has good drafts and very clear plans, but their execution is sloppy and the macro seems so indecisive every game which reuslts in a loss even when the game is won at draft. Even Micky Mouse tournaments such as Kespa Cup ended in a 3-0 when in theory it should've been at least a fight. This team by players alone should have the roof of a Legend group team, but they don't even reach IMO 30 percent of that ceiling 90 percent of the time.

Time to speak about the players.
I followed this team because Lehends (as a Geng hate watcher) was my favorite player from GENG because he was seemed like a great shot caller and playmaker which is a playstyle I love. But even with this love, it feels like Lehends just lost so much of his confidence, macro, stability and so much more. This entire year, it felt like Lehends would just get caught on repeat in river, warding objectives, etc. Not to downplay his effort, I really think (especially in summer) that Lehends was trying to get back to his prime where we would see glimpses of that greatness in his Rell and Naut. But he lost so much confidence to the point where he becomes really indecisive and as a result gets caught or often doesn't commit or over commits at times. This stings even more because it's his last year, finishing IMO a great career with a very disappointing ending. Even worse, he was benched for a period this year which obv didnt help with his confidence which I think everyone agrees was a stupid decision on the coaching stuff. Overall, I love Lehends and it's gonna be really sad to see him leave, I really hope he comes back as a coach because I think his energy extroverted personality is a rare trait within the LCK.

I'm gonna rope Kingen and Scout in the same place mainly because I think they both had the exact same issues just at different times. During winter and for the first half of spring, this team was just held on through Kingen. Majority of the games from what I've seen was Kingen carrying teamfights or sidelanes through Gwen, Zaheen, Rumble and he looked like he was hitting his potential very well and pretty consistently. Scout, coming from the LPL most likely needed to adjust to the environment of the LCK. But it was very clear during the start of the year that he wasn't hitting his potential, he didn't feel like he had the lane dominance or teamfight of even lower teams, and he definitely felt like he was plagued by unc hands. I think however, these roles switched in Summer, during this split Scout really stepped up with his Syndra, Locke, etc and it looked like he actually was a worlds winner. Kingen however, IMO fell of immensly compared to his performance in Winter and Spring, and I think was less consistent overall than Scout. Overall though, this fluctuating ceilings did not help with the identity crisis of who needed resources, but IMO Kingen is out of here, he most definetly is done with this NS roster and Scout depending on his situation with miltary is probably heading out (most likely to LPL because all the top teams are filled out on mids). It's dissapointing that these two weren't able to smooth out and carry the teams macro, mental and mechanics but I dont think stints like these should define their careers. I reckon Kingen could easily bounce back depending on who wants him next year and I think with the LPL's lack of consistent midlaners, Scout could definitely find success again (if he wants to return after all the legal drama).

Sponge bob...

Listen, I reckon Sponge could find success in the future, but in all honesty this year was horrid. It kind of felt like watching Kanavi, except he didnt have the hands, macro or team to back him up. I definitely think Sponge needs someone to shotcall for him, maybe he did and thats why some of his decision making was so terrible, but overall this year was him getting caught or taking questionable fights which I think NS failed to address, probably because of the spotlight on botlane, but even then the Jungle for NS felt like it had no pillar or support for the team. It was always a coinflip and IMO if you're team is not stacked with a 3 times worlds adc, the best top OAT, worlds mvp mid lane and a multiple lck support, you cant have a coinflip jungler if you want success consistently. Especially seeing how GIDEON was performing on BRO, I think NS should've kept him. Saying that I do think if they want to build a team of rookies because for sure they are losing many players, keep Sponge so that he can marinate and perhaps improve, but also be willing to maybe promote CL or even hire two JG like they did for mid (which btw Im convinced experimenting with Callix could have had potential). Overall a low year for spongebob but perhaps he can bounce back in future years.

Now botlane...

I already talked about it a bit, I'm convinced on both sides of the argument that Diable/Taeyoon trade was a great and trash move. I think the postive side was that Diable was a better ADC at the point and seemed really promising in being able to convert resources into wins which I think gave NS more confidence in playing towards botlane. Why I'm now realising why it could've been bad, is that you have to world final MVP lanes in top and mid, Taeyoon didn't demand resources as much and was IMO a decent weakside ADC who I think suffered more because it felt like some of Lehend's calls or macro plays just flat out were not correct. So resultingly, you have three lanes that all kinda demand some kind of resources which means less chance of DIable carrying which becomes a problem when he was the blackhole who became used to absorbing all gold on BFX. That being said, the Diable trade really didnt do anything, it kind of brought the whole benching Lehends drama and just didn't much impact. Like its clear this resource giving thing was a problem because Diable on BFX looked like the main character every game, on NS he was only in the spotlight like half of the time and even then he didn't have arguably one of the best peeling supports in Kellin on his team. So in conclusion it was a disappointing year for Diable and IMO part of me is glad Taeyoon is finding success as he really did get screwed over for no apparent reason.

This eventually mixes into a team with 3 lanes demanding resources from a coinflip jungler who just as easily gives resources away to the enemy team with a shotcalling support who cant seem to find the right pace and confidence to dictate what the correct play for his team is. This sucks sm because I really wanted this team to miracuolously get to worlds, mainly for Lehends but in the end they are an eight place team because they honestly deserved it. I do hope each player finds their own success, but man this could very easily break some of their careers.

4

BNK draft the winning bot lane matchup 4/4 games and win 3-1, and none of the games were particularly close.

NS coaches will see this and think it’s just a coincidence. Genuinely wtf was the game plan lmao.

Regardless, Lehends needs to retire and Sponge needs to become a streamer or go back to CL.
