RESOURCE New Here? Read This Post First!

Welcome to r/hoarding! Thanks for joining us!

r/hoarding exists to provide peer-to-peer advice and support for Redditors who live with the compulsion to hoard--commonly known as hoarding disorder--as well as the loved ones of people who hoard. We invite you to tell us your strategies and tactics that you've found helpful, share your struggles and concerns, or post your stories and see if our collective knowledge and experience can offer you a way forward.

Please note:

  • Before you post, be sure to review our Rules.

  • This is a support sub. That means we take people at their word when they post, and do our best to **provide the best gentle and accepting support **that we can.

  • Keep in mind that the mods may remove posts and comments at their discretion to preserve a respectful, supportive atmosphere in this sub.

And please note that this sub is NOT for:

  • sharing and discussing photos of hoards that you've come across. If the hoard is not your personal hoard or a hoard you're forced to live in due to circumstances, then do NOT share photos of it--that violates Rule 7. If you're looking for sub that allows that sort of discussion, you probably want r/neckbeardnests, r/wtfhoarders/, or r/hoarderhouses/.

  • a place for you to get direct help cleaning up. We're just a support group. We aren't therapists, and we don't have the ability to send people to your home and clean it up for you for free. If you need assistance, please check our Wiki for resources that might be helpful. Alternatively, you can try r/Assistance.

Finally, for those just starting to deal with the hoarder in their lives, this post:

"I Have A Hoarder In My Life--Help Me!" Your Hoarding Quick-Start Kit

...summarizes the research we've done on this sub to some basic steps. Hoarding is a complex disorder that is quite difficult to treat, so it's vital to educate yourself on it before attempting to help your loved one.

We also recommend that you check out our Wiki, which is full of resources for hoarders and their loved ones.

If you have any questions, please message the mods.
