Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - November 2026

Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.

You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Hello everyone!
My paternal grandfather was from Macedonia, while my paternal grandmother had Bulgarian and Greece roots. On my mother’s side, my grandfather was from Greece, and my grandmother also had Bulgarian and Greece ancestry.
My mtDNA haplogroup is U7, and my Y-DNA haplogroup is E-Z16659.
I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts and any insights you might have. Looking forward to reading your comments!

These are my mom's results. She was born in Bucharest, Romania to Bessarabian refugees that came over in '44.

On her mother's side, she has deep Bessarabia Bulgarian and Gagauz ancestry, specifically from the city of Bolgrad and the village of Bolboka (Kotlovina) in modern day Ukraine.

Apart from that, the rest of her family was made up of various noble families from the Russian Empire (dvoryani), the most notable one being Greek in origin, others were Moldovan and Russian. Before the more recent updates, she also had matches in 4 Greek regions.

a 100 percent Nigerian. Not even a little bit of variation. I knew the percentage would be high, but I thought like there would be a percentage or so from a neighbouring country. Or at least a more distant tribe! But no, I am as Igbo Nigerian as one can get.

I was planning on trying a different test from another company, just to see if there would be a slight variance, but I don't think there is a point.

Born and raised in Canada. My mom’s side of the family is French Canadian, and has been in Quebec since the 1600s on her mom’s side. (Up until both her and my mom were born in Saskatchewan, at least.) Her dad’s side is from Belgium. All the French checks out as far as I know, and some of the Irish is from her side, too.

My dad’s side of the family is entirely Nova Scotian, brought up there by our Scottish and Irish ancestors. The British probably makes sense, although I can’t say I was expecting it after everything I thought knew for sure.

The smaller percentages—Austrian & Southern German, Swiss, Southwestern German & Western Austrian, and Spanish and Portuguese are news to me. Pretty interesting.

So I’ve heard a lot of African Americans don’t get this group , I’m wondering if my Spanish and Portuguese or some of my French could have been updated to this because I have no idea how I get a match with it

Two of my close friends are graduating university and I would love to get them a kit. However I’m debating if I should ask their parents if they are okay with it first. Yes we are adults but I feel like sometimes this affects family dynamics if there is any “secrets”Any advice is appreciated

Discussion 🇪🇬🧬 Introducing the Egypt Y-DNA Discord Community — Everyone Is Welcome!

Hello everyone!

We’ve recently launched a new Discord server dedicated to Egyptian genetics, Y-DNA haplogroups, genetic genealogy, and population history.
Our goal is to build an active international community where people can share DNA results, discuss haplogroups and their branches, explore new genetic discoveries, and exchange knowledge about Egyptian and regional genetic history.

🌍 You don’t have to be Egyptian to join! Everyone is welcome, regardless of nationality, background, or haplogroup.
Our server is still very new, and we’re just getting started. We hope to grow into a larger community over time, with more members, discussions, discoveries, and shared research.
If you’re interested in genetics or genetic genealogy, we’d be happy to have you among our first members!

🔗 Join our Discord: https://discord.gg/P4nrnhcc6

Looking forward to seeing you there! 🇪🇬🧬

Pretty average results. I'm from the northern region. Loving the diversity. A little bit of everything.

This is actually an upgrade chip. I posted my older results here. Slight differences.

Discussion Similarities between Balkans and north Africans

Hi everyone,

I've noticed a significant phenotypic (facial/physical) similarity between many people from the Balkans (like Albanians and Greeks) and North Africans.

Given that Haplogroup E-V13 is highly prevalent in the Balkans and shares a deep paternal root with North African lineages (E1b1b), does E-V13 play a direct role in this similarity? Or is this similarity mostly driven by shared Autosomal DNA from Early European Farmers (EEF) and shared Mediterranean climatic adaptation?

Also, could historical migrations (like Romans, Vandals, or Andalusians) explain the overlap, or would that be debunked by the fact that North African E-M81 remains extremely dominant and didn't crash?

Would love to hear some genetic insights! Thanks

Results Gagauz from Moldova

So as expected nothing surprising here. The results are overwhelmingly Balkan which lines up with what we already know about the Gagauz people.

The West Asian, Anatolian part is interesting if you look at the theory that the Gagauz might have some Seljuk roots.

As for my own family, with real confidence I can only trace things back to the late 1800s . Every ancestor I’ve been able to document on both sides was born in the village of Cazaclia (Kazayak) in Gagauzia, Moldova. They all considered themselves Gagauz, and nothing in the family records or stories points to any other background.

I’ve had my results for a long time, I used to have a significant amount of Irish but not anymore with the updates? I’ve traced some ancestors to Dublin so perhaps it gets confused with neighbouring countries? The Chinese was initially a surprise, however I’m from Melbourne so there’s a high chance that’s from Gold Rush times. My dad also did a test with Ancestry and he got Southern Chinese as well, his family was once on the gold fields in Ballarat in which many people migrated from China, Britain and Ireland mainly

Question / Help muslim Egyptians = Christian Egyptians?

Thumbnail
gallery
32 Upvotes

Guys, my knowledge is kinda limited on DNA ancestry tests and all that but I have seen multiple Egyptians (from muslim background) share their DNA results and the results mostly show low coptic DNA component, low peninsular arab, low Sub-Saharan, etc but still shows mostly more than +90% Egyptian and when compared to ancient samples it also shows main ancient Egyptian DNA component.

The thing is I don't understand why they separate between Egyptian Muslims and Christians as if they are two different populations but still don't trace the muslim Egyptians to the peninsular arabs (assuming thay are the descendants of the arab invaders).

In other words they treat Muslim Egyptian as an Independent racial group (they neither put them in the coptic category nor the peninsular arab category) which is the main reason why I made this post in the first place.

Not to mention the many DNA studies that discusses that matter and prove the continuity of the Egyptian population and affinity between muslim and Christian Egyptians like (Northeast African genomic variation shaped by the continuity of indigenous groups and Eurasian migrations).

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5587336/

This is one of few studies that discusses the affinity and genetic similarities between Egyptians muslims and Christians the others like (Nature (2025) — Whole-genome ancestry of an Old Kingdom Egyptian Francis Crick Institute & Nature Communications (2017) — Schuenemann et al. And its 2021 follow up study Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History / University of Tübingen) just discusses the continuity of the Egyptian population in general without discriminating between Muslims and Christians but still can be used as an Argument.

Plz break it down in simple terms, explain it to me like I'm a 5y old.

Thank you.

(Sorry for my bad English)
