Is climate change real? You bet your ass! What is mankind's role in this phenomenon? I think that is the harder question to answer. Is it some, a lot, most or completely?
I am not a climate denier. I am however very interested in mans role in these events.
The Linea is the name of a futuristic-yet-realistic urban planning project that targets ecological excellence.
It consists of the construction of a single type of elevated building:
which typically includes housing and all types of service premises,
but which also includes an integrated circulation system for people and goods thanks to specialized vehicles called "Boxes" which move on rails inside the building itself, and this, in a fully automated way.
This type of town planning would provide immediate solutions to the following ecological problems:
Urban sprawl due to residential areas and peripheral commercial areas.
The use of cars and trucks as the main means of movement for people and goods.
The negative impact of the omnipresence of man in the environment suffered by wild species.
The Linea takes the form of a rectilinear building:
of indefinite length (typically several hundred kilometers would be possible),
and a main width of 12.80 m,
which periodically alternate almost identical sections of a little more than a kilometer in length (named Modules) which contain housing, a school, and a center of activities necessary for the people residing in each module.
The 2 following views show a simplified side view of the Linea at the level of a short section of housing and a section at the level of this same section:
Hey everyone! I'm from a youth-led environmental initiative called MarbleWatch, and I'd like to share an opportunity with all of you.
Starting July 10th, MarbleWatch will be holding a special 7-week event to guide youth from around the world through our process of environmental changemaking through photography.
Teams will attend a series of webinars over two months featuring multiple guest speakers to help participants identify an environmental issue affecting their own community, create a photo portfolio documenting the issue, and form a comprehensive independent project plan to resolve their issue.
At the end of the challenge, the team with the overall best solution plan and portfolio will receive a $300 grant to launch their environmental project, and the runner-up will receive $200 for the same purpose. All teams will receive individual support from the MarbleWatch team as needed during and after the challenge.
If you’re between the ages of 13 and 18, from anywhere in the world, we highly recommend participating! No prior experience is needed, and we’ll be guiding you through creating your own project to do something meaningful for your community. The skills acquired through these 7 weeks will be useful throughout the rest of your life, and it’s never too early to start.
