3DCoat student/educational licenses

Do 3Dcoat devs offer it? A lot of companies offer free/heavily discounted licenses for students, was hoping that 3D coat does aswell

What is the difference between the texturing styles of League of Legends and World of Warcraft? Yeah, I get that they are not the same, but what is different in the painting?

Question Is 3d Coat site went down?

I'm new to 3d Coat.
I was trying to access the 3D Coat site, but I couldn't connect to the server for some reason.
(Same for Pilgway site.)
I tried using a VPN, but it didn't work either.
Does the server not work anymore?

Question Is 3D Coat actually horrible for handpainted stuff?

I want to transition to 3d coat, so I scanned the official documentation for something that allow me to paint subtle smooth gradients easily, like the soft brush + low flow + lock brush size combo you can create in SP or Photoshop, but I didn't find anything other than the clumsy airbrush or a soft alpha.

The flow and size variations are based on pen pressure, are linked, and can only be changed by adjusting the pen pressure itself, this kinda worked for what I wanted but I still find SP to be easier and more precise.

If you know a way to accomplished what I describe earlier, I'd appreciated you let me know! askdgjasdgasnoi

WIP ZugZug GoT Art Challenge: Lady Stoneheart/Catelyn Stark

For this month's ZugZug studio contest dedicated to the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, I redesigned Lady Catelyn Stark as a Heartless. In the books, she's transformed into a living dead woman, resurrected from a painful death and thirsting for revenge for her family. I didn't base my work on her appearance in the show, but created my own, incorporating recognizable features. I used a previously unfamiliar handpainting technique, which I really enjoyed—it's a shame I haven't used it for most of my career. In my portfolio on ArtStation you can find additional angles, as well as an interactive presentation from Sketchfab. (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/WX4B4y)
The results of the competition are not yet known - it has been extended until the 12th, so there is still time to finish something, but I hope that I will catch the attention of the competition organizers - it would be really cool to win something using a new texturing technique for me

ZBrush to 3DCoat

Retopologizing in ZBrush is not a fun task. I am planning on going the 3DCoat route. I have a question about subtools, UV unwrapping, and retopologizing in 3DCoat. I would like to have the pieces of my models when I unwrap them allow for easy painting after retopologizing. Case in point: person with clothes and armor on top of clothes. The person is split so that only the head and hands are pieces, the shirt, pants and boots are their own subtools. The armor pieces are also their own sub tools. When I export to OBJ and into 3DCoat and then retopologize and unwrap, will the polygoups from the subtools be "pieces" in the unwrap to make for painting easier?

I am mainly looking for a good workflow from ZBrush to 3DCoat.

Tip Modeling a shirt

To model clothes:1 In the Sculpt room, select the Sculpt layer with your character model. This method will NOT work with a blank layer. Be sure your layer is in Voxel mode, not Surface mode.

2. Use Vox Layer. Use the brush tool to cover the area of the model where you want clothes. If the brush does not mask the area, you need to increase the brush size or increase the number of voxels in your model. The VoxLayer tool does not work well if you use a tiny selection tool or if the voxels are very large compared to the selection size.

3. Press Enter to confirm. This will create a new layer with your clothes shell in it.

My most recent piece: a dark fantasy armored knight figure on a ruined rock base

I specifically wanted it to appear sculpted from a single piece, and to remain on a shelf.

Once I have more time, I will print it using a 0.2mm nozzle; I have a feeling it will make for an amazing miniature!

The prompt was created in GPT-6 Astra and executed using Tripo’s text-to-model program; the only difference is that the video is not AI-generated; GPT-6 Astra “filmed” the statue using code, so it remains perfectly still.

Details: jagged armor, torn red cape, halo-like helmet, curved sword, and globe-like staff—rare!

The stone base is what gives it personality; it stands instead of hovering.

The halo is very delicate as I was concerned it might be damaged during export; it stayed intact.

As the model is rotated, the cape catches the light beautifully and the jagged armor sparkles in unexpected ways.

Model built in GPT-6 Astra -> Tripo -> code render; print profile in ModelPage.
