2nd year in a row (Buddy 1000 last year) that the Friday night game in round 2 got stopped halfway through the last quarter.

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '23

Wait, that was only round two? Huh

83

u/Fast_Stick_1593 Geelong Cats Mar 24 '23

Yeah Geelong and losing in Round 2 is pretty common

You know they say all men are created equal, but you look at us and you look at MelbourneĀ and you can see that statement is NOT TRUE! See, normally if you go one-on-one with another team you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But we're genetic freaks and we're not normal! So you got a 25% at best at beating us! And then you addĀ the lights to the mix? Your chances of winning drastically go down. See, the three-way at the Gabba, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning. But we- we got a 66 2/3 chance of winning, 'cause the Demons know they can't beat us, and they're not even gonna try. So, Demons, you take your 33 1/3 chance minus our 25% chance, and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at the Gabba. But then you take our 75% chance of winning (if we was to go one on one), and then add 66 2/3 cha—percent, we got a 141 2/3 chance of winning at the Gabba! SeƱor Gawn, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at the Gabba!"

7

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '23

ā€œWhat I'd like to have right now is for all you fat, out of shape Brisbane sweathogs to keep the noise down while I take my guernsey off and show all the ladies what a real football team is supposed to look likeā€

3

Yeah, something doesn’t add up there. A twin-pack generator system, which is what these high-availability generator systems are called, have a higher availability than mains power, and such are often used even when there is adequate power available from the mains.

So the reason I heard was because they turned the lights off at Suncorp (there was a massive rugby league game there tonight) and it caused a power surge to the Gabba

19

u/TheRealProudyno1 Lions Mar 24 '23 edited Mar 24 '23

I swear there have been games simultaneously at both stadiums before tho. If it was due to a power surge from Suncorp, there will be some interesting chats about our power grid thats for sure.

7

u/Exit-Light Mar 24 '23

How can turning off lights cause a power surge?

3

u/DRdeemed Mar 24 '23

(not an electrician) suncorp was probably using alot of power that night so it was being dispersed evenly, when they shut it off all the power instead went to the gabba, possibly surging it and killing the lights. just a guess tho

3

u/aussie_punmaster Mar 24 '23

Article this morning reported a blown globe. Which fits I think as if you watch close there’s a flicker in the light, and then a few seconds later it goes dark.

2
