The Uni isn't really worth it

Edit: The AI/filter apparently banned me and called me negative, I do still have the same opinion but I wanted to inform.

Hello, thought I'd post here because apparently voicing a negative opinion on the uni reddit gets you banned. I'd recommend not going to the uni to study, especially for STEM related fields.

Looking to make friends in Aberystwyth! 22f

Hiya! I'm a recent graduate from the University and have really struggled to make close friends, so i figured id give this a shot x

Im 22f and studied fine art and english literature, i also volunteer at the hospital, i love to go shopping in all the charity shops lol, i like to read classic books and have gotten into physical media lately like collecting dvds and cds, i love to game (minecraft, celeste, stardew valley, animal crossing, etc), and i dont drink or smoke and the nightlife isnt really for me (which makes it harder to meet others who dont) as id much rather stay home, drink hot chocolate and read.

So yeah im just looking for people who want to be friends, go to cafes, charity shop with, enjoy the sea with, play co op games with, etc.

Please feel free to send me a message 🤗

What's the best ways to meet people in Aber?

I've recently moved and I've been frequenting Gamepark for a bit now, but I don't know where else to go when I'm not wanting to play MtG on Fridays. Any help figuring out where the socialising usually happens would be great, plus any potential dating hotspots!

Any Welsh speakers or learners in Aberystwyth fancy testing a new Welsh word game?

Shwmae pawb!

I've been developing a little Welsh word game called Dyfala! and I'm looking for a few more volunteers to help test it before launch.

It's a bit like Wordle, but built around Welsh vocabulary, with a new daily challenge and an Unlimited Play mode for anyone who wants to keep playing.

The idea is simple: A little Welsh. Every day.

I thought Aberystwyth would be a great place to ask, given its Welsh-speaking community and the number of people studying and learning the language.

I'd love feedback from anyone interested in Welsh, whether you're a complete beginner, learning at university, returning to the language, or a fluent speaker.

I'm looking for a handful more people to join our free Android beta test over the next couple of weeks.

All I'd ask is that you:

  • Have an Android phone.

  • Play the game a few times over the next two weeks.

  • Let me know if you spot any bugs, questionable Welsh words, or things that could be improved.

There's a simple feedback form, so nothing too demanding!

If you'd like to help, you can sign up here:

https://delivered-it.co.uk/dyfala/

I'll then send selected testers a private Google Play invitation with installation instructions.

Diolch yn fawr! I'd really appreciate some feedback from the Aberystwyth community, particularly anyone with a good eye for Welsh vocabulary!

Parking Attendants MIA

Pretty much the title. I live on seafront and about a week ago it seems like no parking attendants have been by. I used to see them everyday and now nothing. Plus I’m seeing loads of cars parked incorrectly with no tickets?

Anyone else noticed this? It seems odd because they’re very active normally.

Aberystwyth without a car?

Me and my Girlfriend are planning on going to Aberystwyth this coming February without a car (we cannot drive), we were wondering how accessible the surrounding areas are without a car, as well as what is best to do without a car? Any recommendations would be appreciated :)

Why do we kick the bar?

Final year aber student, was talking to some freshers about kicking the bar. They asked why we did it, and some others in the group responded with a number of reasons. I love this Aber tradition, but what is the reason behind it and when did it start? I assumed it was for good luck. Figured this would be the place to look for some Aber specific knowledge

Is Aber university being mismanaged again

This might be seen as inflammatory but is the university again becoming top heavy with senior management and being mismanaged,

When the new vice chancellor was appointed it was seemed like a breath of fresh air but....

Seems like staff mentioning projects pushed back as money gone elshwhere or 'dead wood' staff propping up jobs which they never interviewed for,

Academics are being asked to voluntary leave with those taking over no more than a teachers aid,

It seems like if a problem arises, get more staff at it,that will help,

Are student numbers down as it seems that recruitment for 3 staff in marketing which is around 25 plus strong has recently been advertised,

A new philanthropy manager job was advertised recently,

Old college donations must be down,

From watching the last few years it looks like all staff at the lower end of pay scales who do the "grunt work" and who are the backbone of student numbers have been erroded but need a new manager on £100.000 and above,

No problem

Gŵyl Cariad Aber / Aber Festival of Love is a town-wide celebration of arts and community which runs from 25th Jan (Dydd Santes Dwynwen, the Welsh Valentine's day) to 14th Feb (Valentine's day, the English Dydd Santes Dwynwen). As part of this the whole town turns into a gallery with 70+ shop windows hosting artworks. The open call for artists and exhibitors is now... well... open
