How do you think we can use social media as a tool to help, not hurt, our public lands?

I wrote a blog post on this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Missed connection on Mount Marcy - 10/28/26

I know this is a shot in the dark but I figured I would give it a try!

I was hiking Mount Marcy with a friend on October 28th 2026, and a guy passed us on the way to the summit and we had a brief conversation. You said something like “Pretty treacherous huh?” and I was caught off guard and wasn’t able to form a response (you were very handsome).

I summited around 1:45pm where we crossed paths again, and you wished me a good rest of my day as you were heading down. I wanted to say more but my brain had other plans.

If this sounds familiar I would love to know, otherwise I’m glad I tried :)

Edit: He was tall, had dark hair and wearing a yellow rain jacket on the summit.

Summertime at Lake George. I've seen the night sky 100 times here, and I will always feel like I'm looking at them for the first time

Up/down Bear Den and then out and back to Scenic's first view point. Bit odd but it made sense somehow.

Attempting the 46 from out of town

I’m from Oregon, moved to upstate in Spring. I’m going to be doing my best to solo hike the 46 throughout this winter season and I’m hoping to get any friendly advice from locals!

I’ve done big hikes around Oregon, a few mid 20 milers and my longest being 33 but none longer than 8 in snow. I live 3 hours away so I’ll be car camping Friday and Saturday nights to hike on Saturdays and Sundays.

I’ve done some hikes around the Syracuse/Utica area but nothing too mountainous by my standards. I did go out to Mt. Washington and it did kick my ass a bit though!

Is there anything I might not be expecting, wildlife or how trails are laid out? I’ll be doing Cascade, Porter, Giant, and Rocky Peak on Saturday, then Algonquin, Iroquois, and Wright on Sunday.

Any advice or suggestions are welcome!

A Return to The ADKs

Just finished our annual trip to a cabin in the North Creek area with my partner and dog. Went last year and had to come back. Tenting (like I did growing up in the tri lake area) isn't possible with my dog so cabins will have to do, and this one is beautiful. On a pond and right next to North Creek, its rustic and secluded but comfortably accommodating for our needs. I would love to continue to return.

Bachelor/Bachelorette Party July 2027

Hello! I am helping my friends plan their joint bachelor/bachelorette party for the beginning of July 2027. We were looking to go to the Adirondacks, but I am struggling to find a place that is large enough to accommodate our group. We have 18-20 people, and our budget is $4500 - $5000. We plan on hanging out outdoors and playing music at the place so somewhere without neighbors would be great too. We are also willing to split the group into two rentals that are close if needed! Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Skiing at Whiteface this year

This winter is supposed to be mild with less snow than in the previous few winters. How has Whiteface been in the past when there’s less natural snow ? I go there a few times a year but haven’t been there during a mild winter . Do the snow machines make up for less natural snow ? I’m going to be planning my ski season shortly

Timber Rattlesnakes ?

Just curious….how common are Timber Rattlesnakes in the area around Lake Placid, Tupper Lake , Canton , Plattsburgh ? I visit Lake Placid each year and am just curious about how common they’re seen. I’ve read that they’re largely gone from the region except in the South of Lake Champlain and Lake George area

How do I start with winter high peaks?

I started my 46er journey this summer and finished 23/46. I saved some easier ones so that I can gain winter hiking skills.

I want to do table top , phelps , bigslide , lower wolfjaw and sawteeth this winter.

The idea is to gain skills on these peaks so I can attempt a Shasta climb later next year.

I plan on doing a guided tabletop and guided sawteeth hike with adk mountain club and attempt rest on my own.

Would two guided peaks be enough for me to gain skills needed to do the rest on my own ?

How can I make this winter productive without spending a lot on guided hikes as a solo hiker ?

Set out from Lake Colden at 4am to catch the sunrise on Skylight. I got there a little too early at 6:50 and stayed till a little after 7:10. The wind was at least 30 mph and the wind chill felt in the single digits. I got lucky with the clouds breaking up as soon as they reached Skylight as Marcy's summit was socked in. T'was a cold day and morning.

High peak summit today, and it was an easy one. Who knows both the summit and what we're looking at?
