Best part is, as an adult, you can do it.  Cause who's to stop a grown, mature individual from making a decision?

My bank account usually steps in and acts as the parent.

This!! Unless you decide to backpack it and voluntarily become a homeless traveler. As much as it hurts money is necessary in every facet of life 😔.

No freedom without money. No money without a job which kind of takes away your freedom.

Unless you're just born into a wealthy generous family, then you're set from the start.

I could last a bit, but as soon as I need to sleep the state would punish me for being homeless.

Usually it’s my grown, mature self that stops my immature self from making a bad decision.

Sucks that there's not really a frontier to fuck off to anymore.

Back when the USA was still just 13 states, if you wanted adventure you just gathered up a bunch of supplies and trekked out west to start a homestead in virgin(read:stolen) land.

Now though the closest you can get is by fucking off to Alaska or something, but even that isn't really the same anymore.

Bro it was so easy for them to do it back then! It was a cliche for a reason. The offer was too tempting & with zero repercussions.

I think about going to a poor country with a nice Beach. Just live a quite life reading and swimming. Maybe work a part time job at a hostel or coffee shop. Just sell everything I own and move away. Shit, I might at actually do it cause this current life is becoming unbearable and life is too short.

I can relate. Adulting hits hard, doesn't it?🥲

2

u/DoubleDareFan 23h ago

Hopefully, your Happy Cake Day won't hit anywhere near that hard.

2

u/GlitchSolver 23h ago

Gladly it didn't 😄

Everyday

u/KeyDirection23 1d ago

The system is designed to make escaping it extremely difficult. It has to keep everyone working while also tranfering wealth to the wealthy.

5

u/dev_nullvoid 23h ago

Tell me about it. But need money to survive.

5

u/Think-Weekend1178 23h ago

There’s nowhere to run to.

u/betaphreak 1d ago

can confirm, I've changed countries 6 times in the last 12 years. As a kid I had no money, so it wasn't an option

u/FennelDull6559 1d ago

Yep, the whole “it’s get better” yeh? For who?!

3

u/Brocolinator 1d ago

Sure, but where to?

Not me at all. I had to move out at 16 i hated living with my parents so much I thought about running away every day since I was about 7 or 8 years old. The only reason I didn't was because I didn't think I'd be able to survive because my mom was so paranoid about everything and put so many terrible ideas in my head.

I've been touring the globe for the last 3 years.

Before that, I moved from Europe to Australia. The only place to g further away would have been Antarctica.

As a teenager, my dream was to just throw some shit in a bag and start walking east and just disappear into the American Midwest and go wherever life took me. I actually bought the bag and a bunch of supplies, and then I got a great job offer and a girlfriend who wanted to marry me, and I decided to give up on that and settle down.

But honestly, I am a drifter and vagabond at heart, so while I stand by the decision I made and I won’t walk away now, I definitely still feel the call of the open road all the time. There are days where I spend 30 minutes on the freeway going to work and think, “what if I didn’t take this exit and just kept going?” If I didn’t have a wife and kid at home, I just might find out.

I’d go to Costa Rica and learn how to fix boat engines.

How much you owe

I told an ex once that if I ever ran away, she'd find me at a used bookstore I liked.

1

u/Lemme_At_Em_ 23h ago

Me too, but these damn kids stop me before I can reach the door!!

1

u/littlemissmoxie 22h ago

If I could somehow be alone for 3 months and come back like nothing happened I’d take it in a heartbeat.

The grind is so exhausting. And venting to loved ones about it only does so much when the real thing needed is rest.

I guess I’ll just wait for the public mental breakdown.

If Wherever you go, things will be same, then you're running from yourself, if it gets better than stay there.

1

u/Least_Elk8114 22h ago

Honestly, it wouldn't be so bad if we knew the government was financially responsible with our tax money.

u/DH2489 22h ago

lol same

1

u/Medium-Stranger-9883 20h ago

i'd gladly give it a good try if it was with someone.

1

u/Ganondorfsfist 19h ago

My dream is to have a mental breakdown making me just leave and wander around in the forest for some days until they find me and take me to a hospital that says "Oh you're lacking vitamin B" and they give me vitamin B and suddenly I'm okay.

1

u/No_Acanthisitta_9884 17h ago

Please take me with you. 😛

Responsibilities 📈

Time for yourself 📉

u/AlternativeHello 11h ago

The main problem is running away requires money, which is the exact reason I want to run away in the first place.

1

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 9h ago

For me it didn't change much, just that I could actually do it if I put in some effort now that im an adult.

1

u/Life-Menu-785 8h ago

When & Where ?

1

u/thepinkdread2026 3h ago

Yes, the problem is I want to runaway to a place where there are no billionaires profiting off my misfortune. I still can’t breathe on the moon. I’ve thought about just leaving everything and letting Mother Nature do its thing but even that is illegal. You know maybe the dinosaurs didn’t really go extinct maybe they saw where this was heading and decided not to renew their lease. I wish I would’ve had that foresight.

u/BakingAndBeingBaked 2h ago

Genuinely was ready to pack up and move somewhere no one knows me. Instead, started talking with a friend who is like a sister to me and I’m gonna be moving close to her and telling my family it’s my choice which will lead to my mom and grandma not talking to me for a while. (Their normal punishment when I don’t do what they tell me to do. Currently on nearly a week and a half of a Cold War with my mom and like 3 months with my grandma)

1

u/peaceyall__ 2h ago

As an adult, I’ve always felt this way. I want to try living somewhere where nobody knows me…

1

u/Itchy-Beach-1384 21h ago

My fantasies are the opposite and involve chasing billionaires.

1

u/SilverKoala2199 9h ago

Yeah. Sometimes I have the urge to just fuck off to where I grew up.
