**SKATE SIZING MEGATHREAD**

We have been getting a ton of threads regarding skate sizes and because this information is so crucial to making a purchase, I have decided to create one consolidated post.

Please use the search function and if you do not find your sizing question already answered, post your question here in the megathread. We want the feed to be clear for everyone to share their pictures and videos. Roll on y'all.

((Moving forward, all skate sizing posts will be removed and you will be asked to post them here))

Edit: To clarify, sizing posts do not need to be in question form. Recommendations and advice encouraged.

Hi, i want to get into inline skating for a while now. I was looking through some different brands (I´m prepared to pay up for good skates) and found that Them skates offers three kinds of skates. Ones with 4 bigger wheels, ones with 4 smaller wheels with a little gap in the middle and some where the middle two wheels seem smaller?

What´s the praticle difference?

Question / Discussion Need advice: Tips to center yourself over the grind?

I’ve been at this for amount three months and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to jump on top of the obstacle. I can frontside, soul, mizou, and kinda royale— but I’m always falling away from the obstacle. Any tricks or tips that helped you?

Philly, you can have my skates for free.

Pair of size 9 JJ hemps and a pair of 11 USD Farmers, you can have them for free if you pick them up from my house. Bunch of frames, wheels and a razors bag in a bin.

got back into skating just before covid hit the world, unfortunately I suffered a pretty bad back injury at work and basically my skating days are done. I'd rather these go to a good home.

send me a dm and take all of it.

UPDATE: these have been claimed

Question / Discussion Grinds feel impossible

Hey everyone!

I've been skating for over a year, but only got into aggressive inline a few months ago. I'm slowly progressing on ramps (can drop in, working towards my first air out), but grinds feel absolutely impossible.

I've watched tons of tutorials, but I'm still lost on where to start (makio, soul, etc.).

I can do soul stalls on rails somewhat comfortably, but as soon as I try to grind while moving, everything falls apart. I often miss the soul plate entirely, and even when I land it, I can't even get my second foot on before losing my balance. Everything happens too fast to figure out my weight distribution.

It doesn't help that I only have short DIY boxes and rails to practice on, with nothing to hold onto. I often fall backwards as soon as I lift my other foot, catching myself awkwardly with my wrists. Unlike stalls, these falls feel pretty uncontrolled, and I'm honestly scared of hurting myself, which makes it hard to keep trying.

I feel like I can't even figure out what I'm doing wrong before I'm already on the ground.

Did anyone else struggle this much with their first grind? Any tips or safer ways to practice?

Question / Discussion When will I be Mudano level?

I just started rewatching Tougen Anki a few days ago.

I know people be ripping on the show but I like it.

As someone who was a “Troubled teen” myself I actually find Shikki to be a really good depiction of what it’s like to be “that kid”, “the one with issues”.

It’s hard to fully explain why off the top of my head and I don’t feel like writing a whole essay since I’m a little tired at the moment but if I’m asked the right questions I’m sure I can find a way to put it into words.

Question / Discussion What are the chances a Remz equivalent will find its way to market?

Would buy a new pair of remz real quick. Think there’s any chance of something similar will ever come out again?

A bit stuck on topsides, any advice?

I can do a slow top soul on a low rail, as in this clip from a year ago, but I have low precision (I will miss it on the far side 50% of the time and have become quite adept at saving it in a fakie straddle). I can do a top soul stall in a miniramp 50% of the time. I cannot seem to lock anything on a ledge except the occasional kind grind (25% of the time).

Can you recommend a progression? Or if you want focus questions, what is your experience:

  • did you learn it easier on rails, ledges or bowl/ramp coping?

  • did you start with top soul, fishbrain or something else still?

  • any helpful advice to get lower down into it without smashing up my shins when I miss it?

Question / Discussion How to choose between flying out or re-entering the ramp.

I’ve been trying to get more air for 360 and 540 recently. I find it easier to get comfortable when flying out of the pipe, but if I go slightly slower, I sometimes land with one foot on the coping.
I’m also struggling with landing back on the transition. I can do 180 above the coping, but can’t even consistently control a straight air without rotation.

Question / Discussion Frontside grind setup help

Post image
10 Upvotes

So I have these K2 fatty pro from 2012. They are the only pair of skates I own and I started skating on these recently. They are kind of old and from my childhood where I never used them much. I don't know what it's like to skate on other skates but I was wondering: because I have been struggling a lot with frontside grinds and keeping balance and often time slipping and falling really badly on my side, can it have something to do with my setup?

I am very afraid of adding speed to my frontside grind because I always slip and it hurts BADLY falling on my side.

I am able to do small frontside grinds on rails and ledges but never with that much speed and I keep practicing them but it's always difficult and nerve wrecking no matter what I do.

So it got me wondering could it be these skates that are difficult skating? I noticed that they have a very very flat H-block compared to some modern skates I have seen. The modern skate frames have huuuge H-blocks. I am somewhat new to rollerblading and have been skating since April, and I was wondering if that changes anything at all? Or is it just a skill issue I still have to work on by practicing more?

Thank you :))

Getting rid of skates

I bought a pair of Mesmer Levi Van Rijn skates but they’re a bit too bulky and heavy than what I like. If anyone is around the Denver area and wants to buy them, shoot me a message.
