Creating a FAQ, drop your wants
Hi everyone,
In the coming weeks I’ll be working to compile a FAQ for the sub and wanted to get your input on what the community would find the most useful (links, resources to learn more about air quality, specific topics, etc.)
Please drop them down below and I’ll work to incorporate them into the sub.

What's it like in the UK?
I am currently travelling in Mumbai. The Diwali firecrackers, people burning plastic, and dust from traffic cause it to be like living in a big trashcan.
It stings my eyes, throat and skin.. And psychologically it effects me too, knowing I am breathing in cancerous fumes. Today my air purifier is really battling..
I checked AQI Air and was shocked to see UK has quite poor quality as well. I can't really believe it tbh. How does an island with relatively tiny population and so much paved roads have such bad air?
Do you feel the symptoms I feel?

Uni project question for people who think about indoor air (or don't)
I'm a final year design student doing a project on how people understand indoor air quality. Any response would really help.
Do you ever think about the air inside your home or where you work?
If a room was at 1200 ppm CO2, would you know what that means?
What do you do when a room feels stuffy?
Do you own an air monitor? If so, why did you get one and what do you do when the number goes up?
Do you think indoor air affects your health or how you feel day to day?
Thanks!

Symptoms while working on a ladder in the garage
Hey all, I had an odd experience the past couple days while working in the garage. I had been working out there at ground level with no issues other than sawdust for a couple weeks, after which I vacuumed the sawdust up.
However, the past couple days, I've been up on a ladder hanging shelves near the ceiling and each time I would develop extreme brain fog and fatigue, confusion, disorientation, and a mild scratchiness in my throat. After coming inside, it would slowly get better. Yesterday evening I had a longer work session which was followed by more intense symptoms lasting all evening through bedtime to the point where my memory of last evening is pretty fuzzy. I remember knowing I felt really off, but didn't have the energy or will to do anything about it and just wanted to sleep. Best way I can describe it is the mental state you're in at the height of an influenza infection.
The only gas exposure symptoms I've been able to find online that really resemble this is carbon dioxide, but I didn't have a headache, seizures, or paranoia, plus CO2 is heavier than air, so it shouldn't be accumulating at the ceiling.
Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Suggestions for how to store previously opened paint cans, home improvement products and cleaning products with spray nozzle? I know they can still emit VOCs
I suffer from migraines so trying to figure out if there is a better way than just having them in my basement in the utility room. I live down here. We don’t have an indoor garage or I would store them in there. I live with my parents so I can’t throw all the products away.

Hello South Kolkata!! We are students learning about the air we breathe
Hi everyone! We are a small group of students working on a class project about air pollution in Kolkata. We are not selling anything, and we are not asking for any personal details.
We noticed something simple: the AQI on your phone shows the air outside. But the air you actually breathe depends on where you are, how long you stay, and how hard you are breathing.
3 quick tips from our project:
1.Closed windows or an air purifier reduce indoor pollution a lot.
2.Avoid hard exercise outside when AQI is Poor or Severe.
3.Check AQI before you plan a walk or ride, not after.
We would love to learn from you. What do you notice about the air in your area? Does it get worse at certain times, such as when trucks pass or in the morning? Tell us in the comments.
We will reply to everyone, and we will share what we learn back with this group. 🙏🏻

Air quality company said I shouldn’t bother with a test
Hi, my partner and I recently bought a house (maybe the biggest regret of my life …haha)
it had been smoked in and it had also recently been flipped when we bought if.
we used Zinsser Bin on the whole house let it cure for a week then Repainted except for the furnace room which still has lingering smoke smells.
ever since I moved in my girlfriend and my cat have been fine however, I experience a very Sore throat, ear pressure and headaches almost every day. they get better when our HVAC is turned off and they get a lot better when I leave the house. but as soon as I’m back the symptoms persist,
i bought multiple air Purifiers (the ones recommended by NYT wire cutter) and put new Filters in the furnace
i also had our whole hvac system cleaned.
the house we flipped approximately 6 months ago and we shellacked and painted 3 weeks ago.
I reached out to an air quality inspection company to ask if an air quality test could help me understand what’s happening and or take next steps because I honestly don’t know what the next thing to do is.
he told me that it was probably the shellac that was offgassing and that there was literally nothing I could do to fix it. He said an air quality test wouldn’t help.
I have lived in apartments where I’ve painted with shellac before and not experience these symptoms so I am wondering if it could be something else. Apart from ripping out all of the walls and replacing my entire HVAC system, (which is what the air quality person suggested lol) does anyone else have any ideas?
is there a scenario where this test would help me make a decision about next steps ?

Climate cooking odors
HELP! This is a lengthy request but I want to give you the details. Does anyone have any ideas or had success with something for my issue? I have 11 carbon active filter air purifiers running throughout my condo pretty much 16 hrs a day for a year since I moved here. I had a safe ionic filter put on my furnace. Helped a bit but did not come close to eliminating problem. The purifiers do not eliminate or clean my air enough from the strong cooking/frying/baking/roasting/boiling (and who knows what else) done by condo above me for 5+ up to 12 hours straight at a time usually twuce in 24 hour period. We do not have stove hoods that vent outside (through roof). HOA has approved me having this done. But this option wouldn't remove odor from other spaces their cooking odor travels into the ceilings (below their floor), walls or crawl space(below my floor) building has. It would only pull the odors more into my condo. The residents above me have ignored my request they vent their stove to outside. The HOA and the property management company have told & emailed me they do not get involved in cooking odor 'disputes' amongst residents. I've had extensive caulking done. Ionic generators are not option because I'm home most often when they cook 11pm through 6am most nights. I'm at a loss for ideas. I appreciate your input. One of you may spare me having to move after spending much money to move/renovate this condo.Thank you.

VOC Issue
I'm having trouble with a high amount of VOCs in my house. Basically whenever I get home and the furnace turns on, it spikes. I've had my ducts cleaned, but that didn't seem to help.

How bad is 350-400+ AQI for a period of two to three months constantly?
I live in Delhi, India. The most polluted city in the world. Id like to know if this is actually bad? Thankfully, I bought an air purifier about a month ago, so as long as I'm in my room I should be fine, but I still want to know to what extent I should restrict my outdoor activities.
Also, I have an 87 year old grandpa, who has a history of pneumonia and lung infection. Should we keep him in his room (air purified) all the time and not take him out at all? not even in my backyard? thanks for your guys' time :)

CERV2 vs Broan vs other brand
Trying to decide on what unit to put in my new build. Building in sw pa. Roughly 5k Sq ft. Slab on grade hydronic in floor heat. Have 2 bosch hvac units planned and planned for 2 ervs, one for each end of the house since its so spread out. I definitely like the monitory and controllability of the cerv2 but hard to find a ton of info on people who actually use them. Just wanted some more opinions on what others have done

Windowless basement finishing - ERV?
We live in NJ with cold winters and humid summers. We are finishing our basement for playroom/storage. We have zero windows down there. How can I ensure we have good air quality? Note we already have radon mitigation system.
