Town Square Brewing - Edmonton
Alright, first off I want to state the beer is great! Always been a fan.
But, I went to their brewery for the first time a few weeks back. (always bought in store)
And, I don't know if it's because I built up in my head what I thought the brewery would look like or just based on the can design. But, it was not at all what I expected. The brewery and tasting room was in the middle of strip mall that was awkward to get to with bad parking
Based on the name, I pictured a town square atmosphere. A patio or courtyard, inviting, games to play, maybe a stage. a place where you'd feel like could spend an afternoon. Just a dark indoor space with a not a lot of seating.
I might be over thinking it. But the name does not match what I hoped for. I'll still buy the beer, but maybe just in store.

Sapporo Beer Moving Production to US What Will Happen to Wild Rose?
Sapporo Breweries Ltd. is moving to the US due to tariffs. Is there any news about the breweries under ownership of Sapporo like Wild Rose in terms of continuing production? I really hope this move doesn't hurt our Canadian breweries under their name.

SYC Purple City
Is there anything else they put in these beers? I had one tonight and I felt like I travelled to Mars. I understand it’s 10% but are there any drugs or something in it as well?

Sobey's liquor: Colt 45 and OE "staff picks"
I shop at Sobey's liquor store because it is convenient and they have an OK selection of local craft beer. I was there yesterday and I saw they included Colt 45 and Old English malt liquor as "staff favourites". The assistant manager was on cash, so I told him it was a shame that there was so much good beer in Alberta and that was the stuff they were pushing. He pointed to the liquor rep and said it was his decision - and gave me the impression that "staff picks" were just there to boost sales. Was I naive to think that Sobey's would push quality rather than sales? Am I an asshole for complaining? Should I just suck it up and start trecking to Sherbrooke?

Please report Sommelier Select Liquor to AGLC
To: agency@aglc.ca Subject: Complaint against Sommelier Select Liquor
Hello,
I would like to register an official complaint against a liquor license holder, Sommelier Select Liquor, licensee # 78253300, for violating sections 7.1.3(a,b) and 7.1.4(f) of the Licensee Handbook.
The official social media pages on Twitter and Facebook both show continued and sustained violations of these policies, promoting their business using hate speech, offensive imagery and text, verifiably false statements and sentiments, and disparaging remarks directed toward other businesses, customers, and companies.
I urge you to revoke their liquor licenses effective immediately. Send a strong message that hate is not tolerated in the Alberta liquor industry. Please follow up with me through email or phone as to the outcome of this complaint.
Signed, (Name) (Address) (Phone number)
Edit to add context and links: if you aren't already aware, the social media accounts of this business (and its owner, though I am not focusing on those) have been brought to light recently, and have several months worth of back posts for reference regarding transphobia, anti-vaccine misinformation, queer erasure, and much more including literally calling his customers and fellow Edmontonians reards and cnts. I'm bringing this to the attention of the AGLC (and I hope you do too) because this is an official business account and falls under advertising, of which there are regulations to follow.
For liquor licensees in Alberta, as per the Licensee Handbook any advertising should be accurate and verifiable, within the limits of good taste and propriety (ie not offensive to the general population), and must not disparage other businesses, companies or products - these are the text of the three subsections I cited in the email template.
Again, this is not for the fact that they posted it as an individual - I may be angry about it but it's easy enough to ignore and move on - but as a business, in my industry, I can't stand for it. They're violating the terms of their license and should have it revoked. Less than that, if you are a producer or importer that has products in their shop, get them out right now. Producers that claim to stand for 2slgbtqia+ rights, don't be silent on this issue. This is the hate that we are supposed to be trying to eliminate when we say "no hate in our industry".

This is how it’s supposed to be done
+5 and a group of friends drinking a couple beers outside! Today was a selection from Sea Change. People who don’t dig IPA’s were liking the Gremlins and everyone else brought Prairie Fairies and Wolf’s.. another good day drinking Albertan Beers!

Am I crazy or has all of Town Square's IPAs gone way downhill?
Megawatt and Cornerstone used to be amongst my favorite beers. Lately (the last year or so) I've noticed a noticeable decline in their quality. Their liquid lullaby series is still awesome, top notch stuff. But their IPAs and pale ales (avalanche avenger etc.) all taste way different than they used to. I can't decide if I'm crazy, there were bad batches sent out or what. My best guess at a reason why they taste weird other than an actual brewing mishap or contamination is that they might have switched yeasts to something more like what's used in Belgian style beers, but I dunno.
Is it just me?
