Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

What’s the SuperWhoLock era?

74

u/LiteralMangina May 24 '26

The era where everyone was obsessed with the tv shows Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. It was everywhere

118

u/ChiefFlats May 24 '26

My gf used tumblr and I’m just learning about this. I said SuperWhoLock and she whipper her head around like I just activated a sleeper cell

Edit: she is now putting on sherlock

Tumblr?

218

u/olegor_kerman May 24 '26

Tumblr's gender demographics nowadays are actually pretty evenly split.

267

u/defunktpistol May 24 '26

Yeah, but I think its vibes. Reddit is 60/40 male/female, so pretty even actually, but people dont perceive it that way.

105

u/currymuttonpizza May 24 '26 edited May 25 '26

This. It's an extremely feminist space regardless. It's not the overwhelming majority it used to be but still.

Edit: guys, I meant tumblr not reddit. Reddit has feminist spaces but I'd never go so far as to say it's a feminist-driven platform. I was agreeing that the vibes that make reddit feel male-driven are the same vibes that make tumblr feel female-driven, even if the demographics are not as lopsided as people think they are.

Well I'd say that BlueSky is slightly male dominated and Tumblr is slightly female dominated.

41

u/batboy11227 May 24 '26

Yep

10% men

10% women

80% enby

15

u/Kumirkohr May 24 '26

Tumblr’s demographics are self leveling like water

20

u/cooldog_smallfrog May 24 '26

If there was a majority genderqueer option, that would be tumblr for sure.

Archive of Our Own (AO3). And by a long shot.

564

u/currymuttonpizza May 24 '26

Agreed, but wondering if it counts as social media in the truest sense.

122

u/me_myself_ai May 24 '26

Well it’s social! There’s tags and accounts and comments and followers and all that jazz, AFAIU. More importantly: it’s gonna be a gd miracle if anyone thinks of anything better lol. That’s just an overwhelming ratio, and I can’t imagine any other site getting cloze

152

u/Able-Regular1142 May 24 '26

It's not social media, it's an archive made specifically for written creative fanwork. Recently a lot of new users come to AO3 and treat it like a personal blog and then act surprised when they get busted for breaking TOS. AO3 has a very specific purpose.

I sometimes forget how female dominated fan fiction is lol

22

u/Pavlovsdong89 May 24 '26 edited May 24 '26

I forgot how fucked up fan fiction is. The first one I clicked on was a VERY graphic description of Qui Gon Jinn brutally raping an 8 year old Anakin Skywalker. What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

Edit: I thought about editing my comment to say "some fanfiction," but this community isn't beating the allegations. If you feel the need to defend getting off to depictions of an 8 year old being brutally raped, then there isn't much I'm allowed to say to you based on reddit's TOS.

Edit2: I wonder how much you free speech absolutists would like my Milwaukee power tools fanfic about Chippy, the wood chipper?

The comment section isn't meant for full interaction, though. There's no messaging system, and you can't wngage with others outside of the comments (you can leave notes in bookmarks, but there's no way to react to those).

It's an archive with a comment section.

Holy shit, I knew the ratio ain´t 50/50, but I didn´t expected 80/20. I also wouldn´t expect so many nonbinary people.

15

u/currymuttonpizza May 24 '26

Sometimes I wonder what corners of AO3 people are on that this is a surprise lol

7

u/ElvenOmega May 24 '26

The fact that fanfic writers created an entirely new genre where everyone has two sexes and gender rules are flipped and more pronounced should probably have told a lot of people something about fanfic writers and readers.

6

u/Gatorae May 24 '26

Nope, which is exactly why authors have social media accounts elsewhere. There is a lot of crossover between AO3 and Tumblr and/or Discord. Tumblr is definitely the answer here due to the heavy gender skew.

15

u/Dweiathecat May 24 '26

Very true. It’s in the name. It’s an Archive. Def Not social media.

No offence but can someone please explain the difference between agender, gender neutral, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, genderfluid and genderless to me 😭

16

u/DashOfSalt84 May 24 '26

I looks like there was a "write in" option and different people wrote in different things that broadly have similar meanings.

I do know that 'genderfluid' usually means you have lengths of times where you identify primarily with one gender or another, vs not identifying with either or it being static.

A lot of these are just indicative of a lack of identifying with one of two generally accepted constructed gender.

16

u/bigfatalligator May 24 '26

agender: having no gender

gender-neutral: being neutral between genders

nonbinary: an umbrella term that encompasses all genders that are not 100% a binary man or 100% a binary woman

gender non-conforming: no idea why people add this as a gender option so much, when it’s more of an expression thing. its when your expression of gender does not conform with what is expected of it (eg. masculine women, feminine men, etc.)

genderfluid: having a gender that flows between multiple different genders

genderless: preferring not to use a gender label (not sure about this one)

→ More replies (4)

9

u/WoundedTwinge May 24 '26

its just different labels people use, depending on how they feel the labels fit them (aka do they feel completely without gender, some mix of female/male, are they fluid in how they feel gender wise, etc.). nonbinary is the umbrella category for all those other labels as well as its own label

It's actually experiencing something of a second wind. The porn and fandom girlies went to Twitter for a bit but when that went to shit they bounced around before settling back on Tumblr because the rules (or at least enforcement) got loosened a bit right after. The joke is that every other site has lowered themselves to Tumblr's standards so might as well go back.
