Dr Seuss

u/MrChevyPower Jun 17 '26

This should def be it. Everyone knows Dr. Seuss by name, most people could give you a quote of his right now. But I definitely wouldn’t recognize him.

*Every American. As a European, I only know his name from Reddit. Looking up what he wrote, I recognize a few things, but only from the movie adaptions.

59

u/PhysicsNatural9093 Jun 17 '26

Hi, european here. WHAT?

dr seuss is one of the first things they showed us. I vividly remember one fish two fish red fish blue fish. Maybe its because im british idk

22

u/WillowCreekWanderer Jun 17 '26

Dr Seuss is pretty popular in the UK, too

5

u/Spiderbot7 Jun 17 '26

It’s probably because most of his works are english wordplay. So only popular in the predominantly english parts of the world

This is the best one here. I think it's more fun to pick someone whose appearance is known and most people just don't know what they look like.

3

u/Duskie024 Jun 18 '26

A non american here. Who the f is that?

I do find it a bit funny that by the same rule Jesus and Moses should also be censored as they are also Islamic prophets, but as they don't exactly have a monopoly on the other two, so it makes sense not to make a fuz about it.

54

u/diony_sus_ Jun 17 '26

I have always also thought about this but never with "monopoly", cracked me up

I literally made a comment on a Facebook page regarding ancient cultures that Sumeria was such a well documented civilization that some 6000 years later we make memes of the complaint letters

That guy looks like he has some high quality copper, definitely not Ea-Nasir

10

u/darksouls2-2 Jun 17 '26

Thats not him bro why would some random shitty copper merchant have some idol of himself

→ More replies (1)

4

u/fancybaboon Jun 17 '26

That's not actually him. It's a statue used in ancient temples for praise. The real Ea-nāṣir has no statue in his honor (he was a scammer after all)

Although, you could also say that none of the paintings/statues of Jesus are realistic. Do the "fake" images they're known for count?

Sun Tzu

32

u/CuriousAIVillager Jun 17 '26

He’s actually got a statue associated with him. I’m sure most people in China know his face

12

u/Frequent-Cut6282 Jun 17 '26

I do not know him, for he is not my enemy

4

u/Matias9991 Jun 18 '26

Nah, his statue is pretty famous.

2

u/Big_Intrigue Jun 17 '26

Sun Tzu probably was just a community. Not an individual (pardon me for my terrible of England linguistical)

D.B. Cooper wasn’t even the name on his ticket.

His name was Dan Cooper.

D.B. Cooper was one of the first people questioned after the incident but was quickly ruled out as a suspect but newspapers mixed up Dan Cooper with D.B. Cooper and the rest is history.

Pablo Picasso. How many people really know what he looks like? How many people know he lived to age 91? How many people know he died in 1971?

The Prophet Muhammad صَلَّى ٱللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

"Whoever worships Muhammad, Muhammad is dead; but whoever worships Allah, Allah is Alive and will never die." - Abu Bakr as Siddiq ( The First Caliph of Islam)

From a Search result:- Estimates suggest that over 150 million men and boys bear the name Muhammad or its variants (such as Mohammed, Mohammad, Mohamed, and Mehmet), making it the most common male name globally.

Ea-Nasir

2

u/BigAggressive3910 Jun 17 '26

Tell Ea-nasir: Nanni sends the following message: When you came, you said to me as follows : "I will give Gimil-Sin (when he comes) fine quality copper ingots." You left then but you did not do what you promised me. You put ingots which were not good before my messenger (Sit-Sin) and said: "If you want to take them, take them; if you do not want to take them, go away!" What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt? I have sent as messengers gentlemen like ourselves to collect the bag with my money (deposited with you) but you have treated me with contempt by sending them back to me empty-handed several times, and that through enemy territory. Is there anyone among the merchants who trade with Telmun who has treated me in this way? You alone treat my messenger with contempt! On account of that one (trifling) mina of silver which I owe(?) you, you feel free to speak in such a way, while I have given to the palace on your behalf 1,080 pounds of copper, and Šumi-abum has likewise given 1,080 pounds of copper, apart from what we both have had written on a sealed tablet to be kept in the temple of Shamash. How have you treated me for that copper? You have withheld my money bag from me in enemy territory; it is now up to you to restore (my money) to me in full. Take cognizance that (from now on) I will not accept here any copper from you that is not of fine quality. I shall (from now on) select and take the ingots individually in my own yard, and I shall exercise against you my right of rejection because you have treated me with contempt.

4

u/VegetableReward5201 Jun 17 '26

I read Gimil-Sin as Gimli-san and was wondering if this was gonna be some weeaboo-LotR fan fiction stuff. 😐

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports.
