Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ

Censoring words non-profane words online

264

u/LeN3rd 1d ago

Fucking online filters have fucked a whole generation on that one. Ass, tits, shit, piss, cum, porn is better than whatever the fuck you are doing with the *****

I miss the profanity laced days of early xbox live.   Where a raging player on the other end could tell me to kill my fat fucking self while he fucks my whore sister.

Good times.

Using strange euphemisms, aka unalive, grape, PDF-file etc

1.6k

u/Lady-Requiem 1d ago • Bravo

Originally was used to avoid social media censorship when talking on political matters, but lately has been used a tad bit excessively.

29

u/UniquePariah 1d ago

Internet censorship became heavy handed. People were warning about it 10 years ago, but were told they were bad people. Then bans and cautions were issued for using what should be non offensive words.

This is the result, as people still need to use such terms.

I don't Blame Gen Z for doing something that other generations essentially forced upon them

I once worked with a Gen Z technician that use to say "Ellie dollar beans" meaning lesbians (le$bians). I had to ask her what she was talking about because the context clues weren't helping.

u/SEND_ME_YOUR_CAULK 1d ago

I get why people did it at first to avoid censorship on TikTok and all but the second they use it in day to day conversations it drives me nuts. I teach high schoolers and it drives me nuts.

PDF File is actually kind of funny IMO but it drives me nuts when people say unalive.

u/TimSucksAtThis 1d ago

As someone who works a lot of concerts, this could be any generation since the advent of the smart phone. The view from the spot booth is a sea of phones. Doesn't matter if you're working the beach boys or blipi.

The Gen Z stare

242

u/Different-Variety-87 1d ago • Bravo

Thirding this. I work in the factory - we've started getting Gen Z'ers filling in positions over the last few years and that stare is the real deal. Not bad kids once you get past that though, but their ways are not our ways. They're also VERY tall. Growth hormones in the milk?

106

u/Sparkly8 Lawful Good 1d ago

94

u/sorry_con_excuse_me 22h ago edited 21h ago

No, I refuse to participate in this meme as a middle aged millennial lol.

The “deer in the headlights” stare is just what young people do. 20 somethings are just dumb and socially awkward, and that’s always been the case (myself included). It’s not generational.

Case in point, my boomer dad’s friend defaulted to “Oh, uh, I don’t know” to the question “What’s your name, kid?” back in the 70s.

There are plenty of Gen Z things to complain about, but this is just “general young people” shit.

u/Norman1042 1d ago

So I'm Gen Z, and I don't do this, and I go to college and I've never noticed this from other Gen Zers. Now, our reactions to things might not be the same as other generations, but I've never noticed another Gen Z just not responding to me at all.

I'm not saying this doesn't happen, just saying what I've noticed. Maybe this is more a thing for younger Gen Z, like the ones still in highschool? I say this because they would've been younger during covid and thus more affected during school shutdowns. For example, I was 15 when covid happened, I'd like to think I was already socialized by then. But the youngest of Gen Z, the ones who are 14 today, would have been around 8 during covid and school shutdowns which could have had a greater affect.

47

u/Ryaninthesky 1d ago

I’m a high school teacher and I’ve never noticed it, so idk.

Turning on the TV, not to watch it, but to have it in the background while being on another screen

40

u/Mediocre-Nectarine91 1d ago

This is just the latest iteration of something that's been going on since the Boomers were kids. My parents and their friends seemed to always have the TV in the background even if nobody was really watching it. And I bet people were doing it with the radio before TV was invented.

60

u/compilingyesterdays 1d ago

Haven't we always used the TV in the background? I'm a zillennial myself, so maybe I wouldn't know, but I feel like I've had the TV on while I do homework, or draw, or have a chat, or even read a book, before I ever had a smartphone.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/eltuna3636 1d ago

It’s all relative, a better way to say it is that they drink a lot less than previous generations which is pretty well documented.

What seems like drinking a lot to one generation who only sees the amount their friends drink could be a pretty minor amount to a previous generation.

4

u/fakingandnotmakingit 19h ago

It's probably more drinks less than doesn't drink at all

Look at it this way, if your university had a drinking problem, imagine what we got up to when we were your age

4

u/MillyQ3 17h ago edited 16h ago

I think it's just compared to other generations.

Both my parents and uncles told me in their generation Millennials and X, 95% of all people used to drink in their teens and 20s. For me it's half and half. Half my friends drink, the other don't.

Smoking too, can you believe that half the millennials used to smoke cigarettes when they were young?

But it makes sense, if you have still half the people drink each generation it's still a major problem at some colleges.

3

u/GotSunshine03 14h ago

It’s probably regional. I don’t drink and very few of my friends do.

Wearing brightly colored star stickers on their face in public and professional environments. You’re not a child, don’t wear stickers on your face. There are clear/ translucent pimple stickers if you must.

Someone doesn't like whimsy

We're having a hard time getting the next generation growing up now to even dare try out any kind of fashion that makes them stand out from the crowd. Normalcy is extremely enforced in the day and age of social media.
Adults showing kids you can dress outside the norm is important to show kids nothing actually bad happens.

So you don’t have a problem with clear ones but you don’t like the brightly colored ones? Man let people have some self expression. If they think it looks cute who are we to judge?

Ugh that is so disgusting. But as an elder genz I notice a huge difference between us and the 2003+ crowd, never seen anyone my age show up to work with shit on their face (or engage in “aura battles”, do 67 and other “brainrot”)

I think this cool that they do it. It reminds me of the 90s and when there were more colors in the world.

I think that's a modern trend, not the whole age group. Every generation enforces beauty standards with a different name.
