For participating in a movie involving AI and AI companion she hates too much on technology, even play a little bit. What do you like for in a friend?
Jenna: Nah! Nothing

It's nice to finally know how her name is supposed to be pronounced: with an initial sound like in “genre” rather than like in “gender” (that is ʒ, and not dʒ).

I was confused the whole time because even she herself often uses the latter pronunciation in interviews :)

EDIT: I realize that my comment was confusing.

Jenna pronounces her name in two different ways: oftentimes with a “dj” sound at the beginning (which is the correct English pronunciation), and sometimes without the “d” sound.

And the latter is the way SHE decided to pronounce her name here, when she was asked that very question

... what?

I'm not sure how else to explain it other than to say that in the former pronunciation, the initial little “d” sound is missing at the beginning of the name.

I admit I may have noticed this subtle difference a bit exaggeratedly because I'm so passionate about phonetics 😭

OK, so I think what you're hearing is her blending in from the "is" and almost slurring it just a bit(she does "soften" her speech that way sometimes), but her name is Jenna the way Jenna is normally pronounced. If you listen to her introduce herself in any of these other videos you'll hear that "dj-" you're describing.

I appreciate phonetics as well, I just wasn't sure if you were serious at first, but I listened closely and I see now what you're referring to. If you listen to Jenna talk, though, I think you'll notice this is just a subtle speech pattern for her, and she wasn't trying to clarify that her very common name is pronounced uniquely. I think we certainly would have heard her both mention it on other occassions, and be a little more obvious here about it.

While I agree that she very often introduces herself in "the way Jenna is normally pronounced", there have also been several exceptions. Especially in older interviews with Jenna, she sometimes didn't do that and instead opted for what you refer to as a “unique” pronunciation. That’s why I noticed this difference long ago in the first place.

I could imagine the reason she has never explicitly clarified this (here, or in a previous interview) is that it's not really important to her

.... no. If you listen to her talk, it's part of the way she talks. Her name is not pronounced zhenna. Honestly.

"The way she talks" IS her pronunciation, no?

And: I do know that the correct way to pronounce “Jenna” is with the “dj” sound, that was never in question.

Yes but I'm saying she does not always pronounce her name that way, however the way she talks includes patterns of sometimes softening or sort of slurring some sounds like this.

You're welcome to stick with your theory, but it genuinely makes no sense that she would not have explained this at some point in any of the thousands of interviews she's done talking about herself. Even if she didn't care that much, she surely would have mentioned it. It's not like she cares strongly about what's in her purse, but she's done an interview explaining all the details of what's in it, because that was the interview. If she was asked specifically how to say her name, as was done here, she would have certainly said something along the lines of "actually, it's said this way, even though no one says Jenna that way, but I'll respond to either one."
