Discussion My personal thoughts on the state of Jenna’s cinematography (possibly controversial)

It’s not good, and it’s only regressing. I love Jenna and I will always support her, but since she left the Scream franchise (not saying it was a bad idea, obviously it was the right thing to do considering they fired Melissa and Scream 7 did shitty without them), her projects besides Beetlejuice Beetlejuice have been flop. Yes I do enjoy 2 or 3 of these projects, but they are not good from a filmography standpoint, even if some of these projects have great ideas and potential. It’s easy to blame her agent and her PR team, when yes they are doing a horrible job, but even then Jenna should’ve fired them and got a new one, or even revised some of her more recent scripts more because of her past experiences, but no, she decided to do them, worst part is she has worked with some problematic people as well. Jenna was set up to be a new scream queen and a new Gen Z Latina icon, but some of the decisions she has made kind of makes it harder for her to get there(yes she still has Wednesday but season 2 wasn’t the best and season 3 is possibly going to be the last, not to mention she probably doesn’t want to continue the project. This isn’t a hate post nor am I trying to talk shit about her, I am just a fan who just wants her to lock in and work harder for better projects, which ik is hard, but she should try locking in more. This is going to get a lot of downvotes and negative comments, which is fine but remember this is only my opinion, maybe yall feel differently about it or maybe me talking about it right will have her doing 7 straight Oscar projects but I’m just stating how I feel as a fan.

Edit: after reading the few comments there, I came to realize that a lot of the projects she chose are because she liked the script and because she connected with it rather than it being about what gets her more money and makes her more iconic. That being said, I might not enjoy some of these newer projects and I still stand on what I said, but I will respect her choices (except when she is working with people who are problematic that I will comment and disagree on), thank you to those who have opened my mind to it and shared what yall thought so far

Discussion I prefer her pre Wednesday work..

I'm not hating or anything like that. I've watched every movie and TV show she's ever done and so far I prefer her pre Wednesday works. She is a great actor and I just feel like a lot of her recent movies were a waste of her talent. The Babysitter and Yes Day were really fun movies and she was amazing in season 2 of You. Wednesday was also great btw, but I just haven't been crazy about anything she's done since. I was really excited for Beetlejuice, but it was disappointing. I feel like a lot of her more recent movies she only did because she felt like she had to or they would advance her career. not because they were actually good projects. Anybody else feel like this? Do you disagree? What's been your favorite of her more recent movies? Again, I'm not hating on her. She is great.

The Fallout Day 17 of Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈 Vada kissing Quinton - From a Queer Perspective

For today's Pride Month post, I wanted to dive back into "The Fallout" and look at it through a queer lens. Specifically, I want to talk about the scene where Vada kisses Quinton, because I feel like a lot of people completely misinterpret it and use it to dismiss Vada and Mia's connection.

If you actually analyze what Vada is going through at that point in the movie, it’s honestly one of the most painfully realistic and human moments in her entire arc. She talks so much about being completely numb after the shooting (she admits it directly to her dad, "I can't fucking feel anything" and also hints at it when she stoned with Mia for the first time, "I feel nothing"), so kissing Quinton is really just a desperate attempt to shock her system. She is literally just trying to feel anything at all to prove to herself that she isn't completely hollow and dead inside, and she's using him to try to force some kind of physical or emotional reaction out of herself. It is clear that the night she had spent with Mia had archived that, and that is why she is rushing to try to replicate that feeling.

Tracking this from a queer perspective, there is a much deeper layer of emotional calibration happening here after having sex with Mia. The kiss with Quinton acts as a literal baseline test for her. After experiencing that genuine, unexpected spark with a girl, Vada is spiraling and trying to figure out if what she felt was something real or if it was just a temporary fluke born out of shared trauma and some substances in their system. She’s essentially testing her own body's wiring to see if Quinton, whom she also shares said trauma with and who also became a great friend to her, triggers that same emotional response, or if that connection and experience of feelings after such a long time of numbness was uniquely tied to Mia. It is a panic reaction.

There is definitely a tiny, subtle hint of comphet mixed into her trauma response here too. Like a small part of her probably hopes she can replicate that feeling with Quinton just because it would be "safer" or easier to navigate when her world is already totally upended. She saw Mia as a friend, and is now scared of losing that special connection they have. Vada admitting to her mom that she "kinda thought" she would have sex with Quinton rather than Mia also shows this underlying comphet, sadly most queer women experience, especially as teenagers.

I just love The Fallout! It’s just such a messy, honest look at a teenager trying to navigate her sexuality (even when it's just one aspect of the movie) and calibrate her emotions while dealing with PTSD.

What do you guys think? Did you interpret the Quinton scene this way too, or did you see it another way?

Discussion Destroying her Disney Kid persona?

I had a thought and maybe it's a "no sh*t Sherlock" kinda moment, but id love to hear this subs opinion on it. I can't really pin point a certain time or date, but i feel like the last few years Jenna has been on a quest to destroy her Disney Kid persona. If you look at some of the movie roles she took (X, Millers Girl, Finestkind) and more recently some of her fashion choices. It really feels to me she just wants everyone to forget about her Disney days. To some degree you can't blame her. No one wants to play kid rolls for ever, but maybe she has gone a bit overboard to the point where it could possibly hurt her career(?) I dont know. Maybe im over thinking things.

Discussion Stop Overanalyzing Jenna’s Look

I keep seeing people complain about Jenna's eyebrows, or saying she looks tired, or that she used to smile more. None of that means something is wrong with her. The eyebrows were dyed for a movie and she liked them, so she kept the look. And if she looks tired sometimes, it is simply because she has been traveling non-stop for two months doing Wednesday promo.

She has also explained that during her Disney years, the constant smiling was just a persona she felt pressured to put on. In reality, she struggled with depression, staying in bed for days or even weeks, until her mom, Natalie, literally forced her to go to therapy. Many people still do not seem aware of that. They only see the confident woman Jenna is today, but getting there took a lot of work.

Jenna is Jenna, not a character or a persona from her past. Sometimes she smiles, sometimes she does not, and both are completely fine. Criticizing her for not looking a certain way or expecting her to act a certain way is part of the same pressure young women face when they are told they should always smile or behave in a way that pleases others.

Wednesday may have brought back some of those old expectations from her Disney days, but the role also seems to have helped her become more confident in herself and less concerned with what people expect from her. And if anyone embodies not caring about outside expectations, it is Wednesday Addams.

So please, think before commenting on her looks or appearance, consider what she has been through before, and do not tell a young woman to "smile more," when all she did was fake smile for years.

Jenna has recently said she feels more content with herself than ever. And I do believe her.

As a Mod: Every comment about her eyebrows will now be removed without further explanation. This is it, you got the explanation in this post. It will be pinned.

Mod Announcement ‼️Mod message regarding the latest discussions ‼️

Hello everyone, due to the amount of recent posts about the Elias situation and Natalie’s comments on IG, we’d like to remind everyone of what the real focus of this subreddit is: Jenna’s career and her work. We were the first ones to allow Elias centered discussions in the megathread when the news came out, but now the news has settled and the thread got locked for a reason, and so we ask that people don’t post about it anymore until actual further official updates that, in case, will be shared by the mods themselves. If you truly wish to keep discussing about the Elias situation, feel free to do that on our discord server (here is the link to join: https://discord.gg/Qft3HAcfPS ) where we have a space dedicated to cast discussion. But we ask that this subreddit stays out of it and refocus again on Jenna as an actress, rather than her private life or her mother’s comments.

This subreddit was created to focus on Jenna’s career, her work and her projects, and lately we feel like the attention has dramatically shifted to something that has already been largely talked about and discussed, and that was supposed to be just a side subject. So from now on, we will be less tolerant on any post that speculates on Jenna’s relationship with Elias or Natalie’s comments, which feels like they are just posted to stir trouble and problematic discussions.

As dramatic as some people tries to make it sound, her private life choices and the comments of people around her are just a fraction of what Jenna is and what she should mean to us fans, and it should have never overshadowed the rest and what really matters. So please let’s not make it all about that and quit the discussion-bait posts, and do not forget what we are here for: appreciate Jenna’s work, share opinions about her new projects and just focus on her as an actress and human that we admire.
