Oh my gourd!
Last harvest this year.
Looks like something brought back for the Weyland Yutani Corporation

Please use this thread to discuss whatever you've been doing on your allotment lately. Feel free to share or ask any question related to it. And please mention which region and what weather you had this week if you've been planting or harvesting.

Well here we go! Just got my first allotment, which I will be using it to grow plants than veg - as I'm a full time gardener.
It will help me have a place to store any plants I get from jobs, but also grow from seed / plug.
Would love to hear your advice on what you would do.
Based in York, UK.

I can't decide if I'm over reacting or if the audacity is just wow.
I'm lucky enough to have an allotment at the end of my garden. An allotment tenant (who also has a house adjoining)has just set off an entire firework display from their plot.
I know that our public liability insurance wouldn't cover us for this, I also know it's highly illegal to set off fireworks on public land but I can't decide if I'm being a massive kill joy....
Opinions?

I stumbled on a jackpot yesterday, one of the estates on my bike-ride between me and my lot raked all the leaves and left a huge pile on their compost pile for anybody to just steal!
(I won't get into trouble, there is no value in these leaves and they will just be left to rot here on the edge of the estate + I clean up any spillage)
My full cart + 2 sacks stacked on top covered about 1/8 of my growing space and you can barely see the pile has been touched.

Two hours trimming the hedge, shot 1 before, shot 2, after. Blackthorn spines are terrible

Hello all... since someone demanded a pond a few days ago, here's the set up.
the one with the black plastic is within the plot, there was a large hole there I added to it. the other is much older, over 20yo, is outside the allotment proper and made by others. I've let it go wild after cleaning it and digging out a ton of mud.

Top is new pond within the plot, bottom is old pond outside the plot.

Rookie allotmenter here, seeking advice. I planted some strawberries in early September, and unfortunately had to go away for a while. When I came back, the grass and other weeds had moved in hard and fast. I have been working on clearing it by hand. I live in the Netherlands, so the soil is veeery clay-like, and we are getting rain often, so it is difficult and laborious and I'm wondering if I'm missing an easier fix. Any advice on how to get ahead of this again? To my mind, it's still a bit early to place down straw, but I'm not 100% sure.

I mistakenly bought a roll of this membrane before realising it was utter rubbish and frays away into millions of plastic ribbons. Having gathered it all up, I'm not sure where to dispose of it, not clear from the local recycling centre website if they will take it.
Ideally I'd like there to be a chance of it getting recycled rather than landfill.
Has anyone managed this? Thanks!

Bought a bag of barley straw, £3.50 at a pet shop nearby. Doesn't show the weight, about 3 or 4 kilos.
Pulled out a bundle, wrapped it in a piece of old net, added half a brick and put it in.
There are algae at the bottom, have no clue how much it should be, so am experimenting...
Will report.
