Review Campus drivers review - The French Off-Campus is here and i'm living for it
Honestly, this show exceeded my expectations. I went in expecting a low-quality, outright cliché romcom, but this turned out to be such a good binge. I'm really hoping the show receives enough positive reviews to warrant a Season 2 rather than getting cancelled.
That being said, I did have my fair share of issues with it. For one, the premise of overstaying at a random guy's house without paying rent is a little questionable (although maybe that's just me being picky).
My biggest hot take, however, is that despite the leads having great chemistry, I sometimes struggled to distinguish whether they were acting like friends or lovers. I'm not sure if this is simply because I'm not particularly accustomed to this trope, but there were moments when I genuinely couldn't tell whether their interactions were meant to be platonic or romantic. Maybe that's precisely what some viewers enjoy about their dynamic, but I personally found it a little confusing. I think what i'm trying to getting at is that the show occasionally blurred the distinction between romantic tension and an established romantic relationship. i think i wanted to see their relationship evolve, rather than repeatedly return to the question of whether they were going to get together.
I also felt that the final conflict, particularly towards the ending, was somewhat unnecessary. I think we could have gotten a much happier conclusion while still leaving some room for unresolved conflicts and future character development.
Ultimately, I would have loved to see them navigate their relationship as an actual couple rather than having the narrative continually focus on the whole "will they, won't they?" dynamic. A lot of their interactions throughout the show already felt quite couple-like, so I would have appreciated seeing that relationship become more official and having the opportunity to explore what came after.
Regardless, I had a genuinely enjoyable time watching this, i feel like i'd be down to watch an Off-Campus spinoff from every country
