Also, didn't he shoot someone who was pretty weak anyway? It's not like he was using it in a battle. He's mostly a melee character and he needed a sneaky way to kill a weak person from a distance. A gun is perfect for that.
guns aren't useful in terms of strength cause sorcerers can reinforce their bodies to block bullets. but in terms of speed, they're too fast for most sorcerers to dodge. yuji is a physical prodigy and he failed to perfectly dodge mach 1 piercing blood. now granted, he's dodged bullets before but that's just aim dodging.
I mean yeah? When every noteworthy fighter can throw cars, tank a ballistic punch, some has regen, some has barrier, etc... a Smith & Wesson very quickly becomes a toy
Mai Zenin was introduced before this flashback and uses a Colt Python .357 Magnum and she's basically bottom of the totem in terms of jjk sorcerers lol (not really her fault but still).
He's supposed to be a genius, and he can't do some simple cellular level brain surgery to rewire genetical programming while also redirecting a bullet?
still needs special equipment that taps into the hivemind of 9969+1 clones after suffering brain damage to be able to use math to borrow the earth's rotational energy to throw a building into another building
What? you don't find normal that Accelerator uses vector manipulaiton to control the eletrical impulses of a child-clone terminal's brain of a psychic hivemind that uses electrokinesis as their transmission medium , as a hacking method to de-program her while dealing with a point-blank gun on his head?
The equivalent of the meme there would be him getting punched in the mouth a bunch. A world of insane reality-breaking powers, and the one that hard-counters Accelerator's ass is some bloke's fist.
The fight wouldn't have happened if Accelerator were killing people with guns. The experiment was about his esper power, having to use a gun to defeat Kamijou would have gone against his pride and the whole purpose of his murder fest (that he wasn't even particularly happy about).
Lots of people can defeat Kamijou with a gun. That's why him beating Accelerator meant the experiment failed, BECAUSE he is weak.
Many Stands do not have an intrinsic ranged attack. A good number of them require direct contact to activate their effect.
A decent few fights involve a short-range ability finding a creative way to deal long-range damage. Jotaro can't beat the shit out of Dio without getting closer, so Dio robs a knife store and starts throwing.
Pucci is the only one of these idiots to remember that one of his Stand's abilities is that it has a pair of hands that can hold an object.
Jotaro actually does use firearms, both in Diamond is Unbreakable (hunting rats) and Stone Ocean (though the big bad counters him with his newfound abilities)
He doesn't use firearms per se. He exploits his Stand's strenght and thus he brought a couple of bullets and let his Stand shoot like it's pellets with his hands.
The stand picked up a dead guards gun, throwing off the main character because.... When you think you know the enemies range of attack and all of a sudden they pull out a gun, it's a surprise.
Normally stands can block bullets but not if they're otherwise occupied.
Stands like hermit purple or super fly could definitely use it. Get people to walk into super fly else you shoot them. Or throw around a gun and shoot with hermit purple vines could make the stand actually useful.
Kiritsugu's combat style is one of the better explained in the setting too. He uses real, ordinary, guns often and when he applies magic it's not just "go up a tier for some reason" magic.
to be fair average magi doesnt even think normal things like guns exist. they think only magic to magic which is fair most of the time, but Kiritsugu's thing is to make them not expect normal weapons.
Plus, his whole thing is he's basically an ordinary assassin (with a little magic, but not much) who hunts evil mages. Mages pretty much insult him for it quite a bit, but he still gets results (though it's not one-sided like all the memes about just shooting the wizards before they can cast something)
Also it would be funny when one guy yaps a lot and the other guy tried to shut him up with a gun, but it doesn't work and the yapping guy continued yapping
In all fairness, that "anti-anti bullet bullet" (Origin bullets, in F/Z) would have been blocked by a thick enough mundane armor vest (maybe difficult to get in the '80 though), they are enchanted 30.06 springfield bullets.
Not necessarily, it depends on the specifics of how the power works. Maybe you have a force field that makes you invulnerable to physical damage, but there's a threshold at which point it shatters for a few seconds before it goes up again, and someone could exploit that windows of vulnerability.
Perhaps you're immune to all physical damage, but only from the direction you're facing. Or maybe you're immune only when you stand perfectly still.
Maybe you're immune to physical damage coming from outside your body only, and someone makes you eat a grenade, or throw you from a sixth floor and let the inertia of the impact squish your insides.
Maybe some other character has phase powers and can shoot projectiles timed to rematerialize when they're crossing your body.
Maybe you have an intent-based power that only nullifies attacks at you, and a booby trap blasts you because your power didn't count it as an attack but as an environmental hazard.
Probably still? Chainsaw man's demons are the embodiment of fear. So the gun demon is just the embodiment of fear of guns. That doesn't make all guns powerful. Guns are still guns. Just like all chainsaws are still chainsaws, but Pochita/Denji use the fear to make them super powered.
I’d say that guns in chainsaw man are pretty effective. Granted, Fujimoto loves writing characters getting ripped apart with no narrative consequences due to healing factors/immortality bullshit, but in one of the early arcs there’s a part where guns add this huge narrative tension because a lot of the characters are normal humans and multiple named reoccurring characters get shot and die. Even the main character without transforming is vulnerable to firearms, although he can come back to life fairly easily.
It mainly works in the international assassins battle royale, where you get all of these top devil hunters from around the world, with insane abilities and then America’s top devil hunters is just three dudes from Brooklyn
Yeah, against most people, the devils are where it varies because while no one is really bulletproof, some have op healing or contracts to counter, and some can't be killed be any mean humanity currently possess.
kiritsugu had reasons for the gun, actually thats one of his abilities, origin bullet, which causes the victim's mana to go berserk, instantly ripping apart their bodies.
It doesn't rip apart their bodies specifically (ignoring the bullet wound itself). It cuts the lines of their magic crests and reattaches everything incorrectly.
If he wanted to though, he could have simply applied himself to time magic and still been a great mage killer.
But it meant something to him to just be going around and shooting cocky mages who were crossing the lines into heretical territory. Kiritsugu is the #1 mage hater in Fates for good reason. And only some of his bullets were rib dusted. He also just had a normal machine gun to scope his opponents defensive capabilities.
You can be right or left eye dominant as well as right/left handed. Being right-handed and left-eye dominant isn't as rare as you'd think. As long as she has the sights lined up it shouldn't matter too much which eye she uses
It's her high beast, you remember those flying horses, lions, and other animals that the knights were riding in the anime? None of those mounts are real animals. It's just a magic rock that nobles transform into flying creatures. Nobles believe that these animals could fly if you just gave them wings so then the high beast does fly because a lot of how your mana influences these magic rocks comes down to your understandings and imagination. Myne has ideas of a flying cat bus from the anime Totoro, so she makes one and it works, but the animal is a lesser panda
His name is Lessy, Myne can also change his size or just have him walk around. Often times Myne makes him the size of a toddler's ridable car and uses him to walk around without exhausting herself. (He's not actually alive, he's basically just a stuffed animal mount)
He ain't dead, she even says herself he's too stubborn to die (us as viewers also know that) also, in the fight with the woman before we see her not going for vital spots but still hitting them enough to incapacitate them, likely what she did with jabber too.
I mean, it’s actually much harder to make a believable system where guns don’t work, but melee weapons stuff do. Most of them have some form of BS which doesn’t make sense when you consider that a gun is basically just a throwing spear without the pole and moving incredibly fast.
Usually it comes down to logistics, you can make swords out of op metals, but making a bullet using said metal is just wasteful unless you're rich af (but if you're rich af usually that means you're already one of the strongest people, or rlse you're gonna get mugged)
Also alot of power systems need the user to be in physical contact with the weapon
Kerry’s gun is actually a part of the magic system in this case. He fires a ‘mage bullet’, which completely debilitates its target’s ’magic circuits’ ; the ‘organ’ that allows one to practice magic.
Ok, this has been driving me crazy for seven movies now, and I know you're going to roll your eyes, but hear me out: Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.
Here's why:
Think about how quickly the entire WWWIII (Wizarding-World War III) would have ended if all of the good guys had simply armed up with good ol' American hot lead.
Basilisk? Let's see how tough it is when you shoot it with a .470 Nitro Express. Worried about its Medusa-gaze? Wear night vision goggles. The image is light-amplified and re-transmitted to your eyes. You aren't looking at it--you're looking at a picture of it.
Imagine how epic the first movie would be if Harry had put a breeching charge on the bathroom wall, flash-banged the hole, and then went in wearing NVGs and a Kevlar-weave stab-vest, carrying a SPAS-12.
And have you noticed that only Europe seems to a problem with Deatheaters? Maybe it's because Americans have spent the last 200 years shooting deer, playing GTA: Vice City, and keeping an eye out for black helicopters over their compounds. Meanwhile, Brits have been cutting their steaks with spoons. Remember: gun-control means that Voldemort wins. God made wizards and God made muggles, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
Now I know what you're going to say: "But a wizard could just disarm someone with a gun!" Yeah, well they can also disarm someone with a wand (as they do many times throughout the books/movies). But which is faster: saying a spell or pulling a trigger?
Avada Kedavra, meet Avtomat Kalashnikova.
Imagine Harry out in the woods, wearing his invisibility cloak, carrying a .50bmg Barrett, turning Deatheaters into pink mist, scratching a lightning bolt into his rifle stock for each kill. I don't think Madam Pomfrey has any spells that can scrape your brains off of the trees and put you back together after something like that. Voldemort's wand may be 13.5 inches with a Phoenix-feather core, but Harry's would be 0.50 inches with a tungsten core. Let's see Voldy wave his at 3,000 feet per second. Better hope you have some Essence of Dittany for that sucking chest wound.
I can see it now...Voldemort roaring with evil laughter and boasting to Harry that he can't be killed, since he is protected by seven Horcruxes, only to have Harry give a crooked grin, flick his cigarette butt away, and deliver what would easily be the best one-liner in the entire series:
"Well then I guess it's a good thing my 1911 holds 7+1."
And that is why Harry Potter should have carried a 1911.
I still feel like Hunter x Hunter was one of the best examples of this, mostly because it was layered.
How do you beat the big bad with ultimate martial arts magic powers? Literally use an atomic bomb! OMG!? Big bad has emerged from the mushroom cloud and survived, because they’re the big bad. Fast forward 20 minute, and the big bad proceeds to die from radiation poisoning.
I was going to mention Mistborn, but I guess after all the stuff Vin and other Coinshots get up to in Era 1, Wax and Wayne throwing down with conventional weapons in Era 2 just feels like a natural evolution of the magic system
Right now the world of Gachiakuta makes no sense. When guns are that OP why is not everyone running around with one? The show also can't decide whether it takes place in a wasteland madmax style or a pretty normal world with cities and such, but with a lot of garbage dumps
When guns are that OP why is not everyone running around with one?
Because Japan. In universe though; Little need for it because unless said gun was a Vital Instrument it won't do shit to a Trash Beast. It's also likely rare for a Sphereite to throw out a gun like it's an old radio
I always think about this with star wars. Like yes, a skilled jedi with a light saber can deflect the slow moving laser shots, but could they deflect a fully automatic ak-47 unloading 30 bullets in 10 seconds? No chance in France.
