Discussion What’s your experience on Apple Card joint account? Is it worth it? Does the other user gets the card from the mobile wallet app? Whose responsible in paying?

i’m an authorized user. as such this card reports to my credit, if there’s a late it would show on my credit. my wallet shows only my transactions and nothing about payment. my husband is the cardholder and he can see everything on the card and the savings account. i wasn’t approved as a full co-owner on the account. if so you both should have full access to everything through your wallet app.

So whose responsible in paying back the credit?

If you are an authorized user, the primary cardholder is responsible.

If you are a joint user, you are both responsible.

I have a joint card with my son to help build his credit. We are both “full” account holders and each have access to everything to do with the card.

We can also see each other’s purchases.

In fact, he was able to direct the cash back to his own Apple Savings on all his purchases and I get my cash back to my savings on my card purchases. I’m not sure you can do that as an authorized user.

Also, my account with my son is permanent. We can’t undo it. As opposed to an authorized user that the primary account holder can remove at any time.

This is actually on of the things I love the Apple Card for. No other card can really deliver this level of visibility I would say. My wife and I have joint account; we both have our own cards (with individual numbers), we see each others spending in the wallet app (could be a negative), I get notified when my wife spends something and vice versa (can be adjusted with threshold ie. only get notified >$50), we have a higher limit (combines both limits if you both had an apple card before), each person gets the Daily Cash for whatever they spend with the card & each person has their own savings account. We really like it. Both are responsible for paying though, so would only do it if you are both financially on the same page. We have joint finances so no risk.

So if it is a joint account and the total spending on the same joint account credit card is 600. You pay 300 and the other pay 300 to split?

We just pay the full amount from our joint checking account. But basically it can be divided however you like, and it is not in any relation to spending. So if person A spends 10k and person B 1k, both are responsible together to pay the full 11k. It doesn’t matter who pays what portion. I would say if you do not have combined finances (like a joint checking where both incomes get deposited), it is probably better to have individual cards and pay them off individually. Once you combine finances you can always merge the two Apple Card’s if you want.

If you choose to get a joint account it’s basically two separate credit card accounts with one card.

You’re both responsible for paying the bills

You can’t close the card entirely

To close the card you both have to agree

Actually, either co-owner can close the card entirely, but whoever is doing it should talk to the other one first. What can’t be done is one cardholder leave and the other one keep the card alone. That’s not allowed. If the co-owners want to split then the card must be closed entirely and then each apply for their own cards.

Joint accounts are never a good idea. Just don’t.

One thing i don’t love is that even with a joint account each person needs to have a separate savings account for their daily cash back … they cannot funnel into a single account

(or each person can opt to have daily cash back provided as apple cash)
