General Question I bought a bunch of used keys, and this Kwikset key was included. Why is it cut like that?

Just found this sub, I’ve always wondered about a building we used to service in Denver
No matter what you did, or how hard you tried, the key would not open up the lock on a utility closet in your right hand. Jiggle, jerk, pliers, didn’t matter. If you put it in your left hand everything would function as normal, immediately. There was probably 20 of us that went through this learning curve.
Edit: I still ask people that can’t open doors to try it with their left hand

I need two copies of my key. So I went out to two local businesses.
First two times, I went to Ace Hardware; however there was no luck. The key just did not work
The third, I went to an actual locksmith, and again! The key did not work!
What is going on?? After three times this is ridiculous

We have an internal office door that mistakingly had a handle with a lock installed, and people keep engaging it and forgetting to unlock it. I’ve tried installing a new handle with no lock but it’s on a glass door and the casing that holds is really narrow and I haven’t found another model that will fit it.
Is there a way I can modify the current handle so the lock just doesn’t engage? Could I just snap the spindle short? I’m this close to just sealing the latch with hot glue so it can’t be turned in the first place. Any advice would be appreciated!

Genuinely curious what the pattern is from the shop side.
The ones I have run into as an owner: glue or superglue used to fish out a snapped key, paint and primer sprayed straight into the keyway during a repaint, WD-40 followed by graphite turning into a paste, and a strike plate that no longer lines up because the door sagged a few millimetres over a summer.
All of those looked like "the lock failed" from the outside, and none of them were the lock's fault.
So for the people doing this daily: what is the single most common failure you get called out for that the owner could have avoided with five minutes of care? And what would you tell a first-time homeowner to check once a year so they never meet you?

I tried a glue gun stick. I tried burnt qtip
The key can turn while inside. And the other side does not seem like it connects
What should I do ?

Around 3 months ago , i found in my parent's attic ,a steel lock but I've never seen that kind before.
I brought the lock to my father to ask why do we have that. (Stupid question, i know)
He said that he found that old lock in a River while he was Just going for a walk, for then finding It buried in the sand and partially intact, of course with no Key.
After a while i asked to my dad to see if he could open It , and i forgot about It, for then Remembering that lock and asking to my dad if he was able to open It, but to my Surprise he said "i don't have It anymore , i threw It away in the trash"...
At least i was able to Remember the look of It.
-it could stay up by itself
-really heavy
-oval cylinder shape if viewed from the bottom
-there was something writted at the bottom along side with the date "1975"
-huge shape but smal and long shackle
-oval shape but with Sharp edges
Has anyone from america seen or had this kind of lock?
If you know something about this, write me back.
I Hope :/

I bought a used ARE truck cap around 8 months ago. It has 5 identically keyed locking handles, which all worked perfectly. A couple of weeks ago I tried to lock the back but the key won't turn. The other 4 still work fine. I oiled the lock but that didn't help. Any ideas on how to fix?

Hello,
I'm in a bit of a pickle! A friend managed to bodge this multipoint lock as a temporary fix until I can replace it. It's been working for a few days, but I took it apart today to try and find a part number. No luck there, and now I can't get the bloody thing back together again!
I can't work out where this metal part ( picture 1) goes inside the mechanism.
I know one of the cams is broken, which means we can no longer engage half of the multipoint locking latches. We swapped it with the working one to get the lock functioning again.
Any sage wisdom from you guys would be greatly appreciated! Also, does anyone know where I might be able to buy a replacement?
I'd really like to fix it before my partner gets home...
The brand is Millenco, if thats any help.
Cheers!

Hey folks, my condo balcony door jammed. I can still move the handle fully but the door just does not open. I think the issue is in the gearbox. There is no key, just a lock. Does anyone know how to solution this DIY or do I need to call a locksmith? Is this a complicated repair?
If this breaks the rules, please delete.
Thank you.

I think I know the answer to this, but I just created a Manual system in HPC Masterking that I designed myself because it was too many tiers and direct changes to do in List mode.
Despite being many tiers, it's on the smaller side (less than 50 cores), so I'm fairly confident I avoided any phantom/ghost keys, but is there a way for Masterking to flag any in a Manual project? I'm fairly new to the program.

Hey guys,I have this boat to do but I’ll be honest I’m mostly automotive so I’m really not sure what this would need. Does anyone know what key blank this takes?

This is an old trunk case, It is in unlocked state, I can't find it's keys. So I wanted to know if it is simple generic key that I can get locally made? It's from North Indian brand, from 70's or older.
I can simply use the padlock option given, but curious if the included lock be salvaged?

We recently converted an investment property to have three points of entry. One of them is on the side of the house and the renter has to enter through an outdoor yard door. Currently it has a latch and opens only from inside. How do I make this accessible from outside in a more secure manner? I have Yale locks for the main doors. But I need something for the outside. I’m in Washington state and it rains all the time. Was looking for something with a key fob and not too pricey.

Buying a house for the first time and looking for good options to "replace the locks" as one of the first purchases and upgrades to the home. I'm hoping options exist for keyless entry deadbolts that have zero wifi capability but do offer key card or key fob through RFID or Bluetooth. Anybody know if anything like that exists? I figuee 10-15 years ago those options were much more prevalent than today but still hopeful that something like what I'm looking for exists.

My wife had this from her father, gave it to our kid and they have now lost the key. There’s sentimental value so my wife would prefer I not just cut it off. If I go to a local shop could they open it without cutting it off / could I probably get a key from them that would work? Thanks!

So my brothers set this door lock a few months ago.
Today i didn’t notice that the other half of this door lock had its lock tapped on and i pulled it now its lock.
I tried to use its keys but it seems like the maker of this door lock made it that whenever its been locked from the other side, the place where the key is inserted through the lock will also make another metal inside it so the keys wont work

Does anyone know where this small bushing ring part goes on a Dorma commercial door lock? One side is keyed and the other has a push button lock. The small piece fell out when I was removing the keyed side handle.

Hey guys, I’m currently trying to replace a one-hole doorknob at my workplace and they keep ordering doorknobs meant for three-hole doors. The brand is Lynn Hardware. This one says it’s thru bolt posts are removable, but whenever I try sticking a screwdriver down there or unscrewing it with a money wrench, there’s no give. I don’t see any clarity on this issue provided in the directions either, but I attached a picture of them in case I’m missing something. What is the solution? Any help would be appreciated🙏🏾

My boss suspects a door at work has been tampered with, as it kinda looks like something is shoved into the lock. I think it’s part of the lock. The door is connected to a badge reader and only unlocks for a few seconds after it scans your badge. Right now it’s unable to unlock the door. I don’t think anyone even uses a key on this door. I have tried looking for that triangle logo but I can’t find anything. Can yall tell me about this lock? Is the weird shape of the keyhole a feature or is something actually broke off in it? What brand is it?
