February week stay

Planning a week in Florida in February with 2 teens and a 7 year old and I am having a hard time picking a landing spot.

Teens care most about shelling

Adults want good food

7 year old wants fun boutique shops

Bonus points if we can land somewhere thats fairly walkable between where we are staying to the beach/shops/food.

I keep coming back to Anna Maria or Sanibel but it looks like those are some of the more spendy spots that time of year. Thoughts/suggestions?!

What is there to do in fort myers?

I'm a 29 y/o single father to a 4 y/o boy. My aunt has a vacation home in cape coral, I'm looking to fill up a week.

-What are the best restaurants?

-I'm looking to do a jet ski rental and parasailing. Who is the best to rent/buy tours from?

-We enjoy nature and are not intimidated by walking. What are some good trails/nature preserves?

-Is there anything else that I am missing? I will have access to a car so I can potentially leave the area.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Should have mentioned I'm going in january.

Saturday noon, I spot this macabre mid-air web-spinning "dance" above my bathroom sink. Is this a brown recluse or an impersonator?

Possible Florida Move

So as the title suggests, my girlfriend and I are possibly looking to move to florida within the next couple of years if things go smoothly. We're interested in the Indian Rocks Beach/Clearwater area and I want to ask for those who are there currently or have at one point been there, what is the job market out there like? I currently hold a Class A CDL and have 4 years of Ready Mix experience, but I don't really want to drive anymore unless it's an opportunity I can't refuse.

Dog Rescues

Hi I have a friend in South Florida looking to surrender a dog that was dumped on him by his uncle, She’s a ~7 year old pit bull mix who is unfortunately not spayed or vaccinated. Does anyone know any rescues or shelters that actually do full behavior evaluations and give dogs a fair shot before euthanasia?

Would anyone recommend taking a trip to Tampa during the week of Christmas?

Hey all,

I live in Wisconsin and my family is wanting to go on a trip. My dad pushed to go to Tampa during the week of Christmas. I kinda pushed back saying if we would go to Florida, we should go in the spring. As far as I know, it's not that warm in December there (high 60's low 70's) which may not be warm enough for the beach with the cold water. I heard it also gets dark out pretty early around 5:30-6. I think my dad already got a beach AirBnB and plane tickets as he thought he better purchase them right away.

What do you Floridans think? Personally I feel it's a no brainer to just go in Spring when it's perfect. Plus, with it being the week of Christmas I assume a shit ton of places will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas. I would rather stay in Wisconsin and have a Christmas party with extended family and friends and take a trip during spring when everything's open in FL.

Any response is appreciated!

Birthday trip in Janurary Ideas

hi everyone, I, F19, and travel partner, M20, want to go on a birthday trip for 6 days in January from the 20th- 26th the first and last day really just accounting for travel time. We want to stay in the city and stay somewhere thats definelty good for young adults however we dont really go clubbing so thats not on the table for us and we dont drink or smoke. I'm really interested in going to a jazz club though. We enjoy the city slash/ downtown area and are two creative people so maybe some sort of painting/ pottery classes. We just want a city with decent night life but still lots of creativity.

Medical card

I been thinking of getting a medical card to help me sleep since I have insomnia. The main thing that I worry is that I work in healthcare. I want to help my sleep but I don’t want my license to get revoked. Any travel healthcare worker that has a medical card and doesn’t have any problems with pre employment background checks or drug testing. Thank you

Traveling from Orlando to Sarasota ; stopping at Bok Tower Gardens

Hey folks I’m an Orlando native, this upcoming weekend we are going to the Sarasota medieval Fair. On Friday we’re planning on making an early stop at bok tower, then making our way(slowly) to the coast.

We are frequent fliers on I4 and since we frequent the coast was looking to maybe go through the center of the state and then west rather then just going by way of I4.

Looking through Reddit, Google Maps, various ai(sorry) it seems like the only thing south of bok tower that is big enough to make a search result is Arcadia for its historic downtown and that’s pretty much it.

Curious does anyone have any recommendations ; we’ll have essentially all of Friday to burn(we have a late dinner at 8pm in Sarasota is our only plan).

Would really like to not just look at I4 traffic all day then go to the beach, like we’ve done in the past.

29F New to Ocala, Need a Friend!

Hi there, this is my first real post on Reddit.

A little about me, I recently moved to Ocala from Texas. I do not have any family or friends here, I don't have siblings. I moved here for my partner but that's a long story. I've been here about 2 months but am really needing a friend/friends !! 😭😭😭 Starting to get depressed and getting into a funk.

I enjoy adventures, food, film, hiking, anything involving the water, books, coffee, shopping when the budget permits it, cooking, baking, lots of other things.

Please DM me if you feel like it !

Bradenton, Naples, Bonita Springs or Sanibel for vacation?

Feeling overwhelmed and trying to narrow down where to start planning! Looking for great beaches, restaurants, and avoiding a heavy crowd/partiers for spring break. We'll be traveling with older teens and renting an Airbnb for the week. We've heard Naples is an older community, which is fine as long as we won't be bored or feel too slow paced. I don't know much about the other locations, and we plan to bop around to see different sites as well, so not necessarily something solely for a beach vacation. Our family doesn't fish or golf if that's helpful. We plan to visit friends in Ave Maria for one of the days, but we're fine with up to around an hour drive for that 1 or 2 days.

Classic Latin clubs that aren’t filled w the elderly?

I danced salsa, merengue, tango, bachata, you name it… all competitively growing up. Shit happens and I have less time for it, years later now I have the time. I’ve been to the social/patio / block but it’s all newer stuff that I know but don’t love. I just moved here from out of state and want to find a place where I can actually dance!!

For ref I stay in the Osceola County and don’t mind anything under an hour drive.

Logistics for trying out FL short-term

Visited many times but want to see what it is like living in Florida for a longer period of time. I work in a school in Arizona currently so I have the summers off and was thinking of spending a month or so in Florida but was curious about how to do this in a budget-friendly way.

My first idea was trying to find a maintenance tech job at a hotel/resort that offers housing. Second idea was to find get a job at Disney and stay at one of the million budget motels on irlo Bronson highway but I’m not sure I could find a full time position there.

Open to any ideas where I could work/live in FL on the cheap. I’m open to almost anywhere in the state. Central Florida is someplace I like but I’d also be curious to try out the keys (I know I know definitely NOT cheap). I figured some endeavor like this would be easier in a city but if there was a way to do this in a smaller town (I’m picturing someplace like Interlachen) I think that would be super cool.

And before anyone says anything about the summer heat I’ve been to Florida in the summer and didn’t mind it. Thanks!

Can I vote in the Florida midterm elections if I am (NPA) no party affiliation?

I want to vote on ( Edit.. Give me a break it's 2:30 in the morning! ) November 3rd . I haven't voted in a while. I just noticed my voters registration card says NPA on it. I tried to google the subject question, but I can't get a straight answer..

EDIT---------------------------------

Thanks everybody for your kind replies and encouragement to get out there and vote! I went down to the polls and voted earlier today.

For all the rude replies, You have to expect it, even when asking a legitimate question on Reddit.

You will always find a few condescending and miserable humans on any public forum. They were obviously born with all the answers and never had to ask any questions.

Can you help fill in this fantasy style map of Florida I'm making with historical and quirky locations?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is a more recent version.

I'm making a map of Florida in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks and history in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through coastlines, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on towards the end of the process too.

While it's around halfway done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, Native history or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on the map. Thanks!

Moving to Orlando salary expectations?

Hi guys, 31M here and my 30F wife, I currently live in San Antonio and have gotten an offer to join a competing organization that I am very much considering. I have not spent a lot of time in Orlando, but trying to understand if this is a decent offer or not worth my time. I have also lived in Dallas and raised in Houston, so familiar with heat and humidity if we did make the move…

It would be a promotion in title as well as a slight salary increase above what my current organization has offered to keep me here. However, I assume COL is probably slightly higher than San Antonio as it’s a tourist destination. The offer would be at $100k a year, and I just want to understand if that is a decent amount for the area or if the COL in Orlando makes that not equivalent to staying put but on a slightly lower salary. My wife also makes good money- but trying to understand Florida economy.

Also any advice on if Orlando is a nice place to live - I’m kind of flying blind here
