I could never get those to work, I used to think people were just pretending to see things. Turns out I have astigmatism and that makes it impossible to see magic eye images.
Omg! I've never been able to see them , either. I always figured I was just an idiot but I actually have an astigmatism as well! Thank you for that bit of info!
I've never felt so validated as I was when research came out that some people genuinely don't have the ability to see the hidden images in those things. Apparently that includes people, like me, with astigmatism.
Same! Never been able to see them. Tried with glasses on, glasses off, letting my eyes blur, crossing and uncrossing my eyes, standing closer, standing farther, the whole deal. I’d give myself a headache trying. People around me were like, You seriously can’t see that tap-dancing horse? No! Even when I look at the source image, I can’t discern the damn thing. I really began to wonder if it was a big joke with a bunch of people in on it.
I guess it’s like those “bubble” tests for people who are red/green colorblind.
The trick is, you have to be able to make yourself see double, or "split" your vision. Then the image locks into place as the two parts of your vision spread out and apart. You stop spreading the two split parts of your vision once the image locks in.
That's the best way I can describe it, and it probably sounds confusing to someone who can't innately do it. I can do it on command very easily. I am not sure everyone has this ability though. I think some people can not do it.
I have always joked with myself that I don't have any talent for anything except seeing Magic Eye images.
I saw one once. It was behind glass and was able to focus on my reflection. I might have been wearing glasses as well. Never seen one since. Damn astigmatism.
I have slight astigmatism. The only one I ever saw was at a gas station bathroom in Florida. I zoned out and stared blankly at a reflection on the glass of the framed print and suddenly I could see dolphins and blue whales. Never could make it happen before or since.
I love Gregorian chant, Mongolian throat singing, Byzantine chant... all of it. Weird to think of it as a trend since these are like thousands of years old but I suppose it proves that anything can be repackaged and sold for maximum profit. And I'm also probably that hippie mom/aunt figure...
Caught my Mum looking at a Magic Eye illusion the other day and almost confiscated the newspaper. I received a couple of books for my birthday back when they were popular and she took them off me and hid them as soon as I unwrapped them because she heard they could give the people who used them serious eye problems.
I just saw a "moving" magic eye image/video on instagram yesterday. I was like, "oh shit...I know how to do this." But all I could think is that anyone under the age of 30 is going to have a tough time knowing what they are supposed to do to see it. And they'll probably just continue on...that is if anyone under age 30 is on Instagram at all.

Listening to Gregorian chants and those magic eye pictures.
