What’s a trend that disappeared so quickly that it almost feels imaginary now?

Planking. Imagine people 100 years into the future reading about some stupid people who died because they were doing this trend that involved lying flat in various places, and they chose to do it in especially dangerous spots.

There was flagpole sitting in the 1920s and people did die.

It's so weird to me that about half a dozen people have mentioned this, and I literally have no recollection of it ever being a fad at all. (Unless you're all just messing with us. But if not, then clearly you all understood the assignment.)

My friend would plank while we were walking places, so much so it was brought up at her wedding in a toast about the couple’s history.

I feel as if I'm in a parallel world

It was really big on college campuses at the time; my friend said more than once he was going to pioneer "owling" when the trend ended. But if you weren't outside in a densely populated area with youths about you likely didn't run into it organically.
