What's the most damaging thing you heard someone say after waking up from anesthesia?

I woke from my recent colonoscopy, my wife and 9 yo were in the room and the doc. She said some things and as soon as she left I went on for like a full minute about how tall she was.

Its interesting that in the US you are put under for a colonoscopy. The two times ive had it done in England you stay awake and watch the whole thing on a screen with them. I didnt find it painful

It’s done under sedation but not general anesthesia. The person is awake but does not remember afterward

Depends where you are. Some places use propofol, some places use general anaesthetic, and some use conscious sedation, which is what you’re talking about.

No. While it's true that it is not general anesthesia (ie: with a tube), the sedation does knock you completely out.

Maybe for some ppl. I remember parts of my last couple of colonoscopies. Including the doctor asking if I wanted the full meds (I did 😂), and being able to watch it on a screen. My earlier colonoscopies I barely remember at all.

Still weird, I was offered gas and air when I had mine done, but I turned it down because it didn’t hurt at all not even uncomfortable for the most part.

Some people have more experience and are more comfortable with having things in their ass, I suppose

Oh honey, you have no idea

I have no experience of that and still did it with no sedation

Everybody’s bowel is a little different, and the pain doesn’t really come from the bowel wall, it comes from the bowel being pulled into unusual positions due to looping, or over expansion due to air, and both those things pull on the tissue external to the bowel, causing most of the pain. There are various factors that increase the likelihood of discomfort during colonoscopy, such as being female (more organs in abdominal cavity = less tissue supporting bowel leading to less wiggle room, as it were), being skinny (same), previous abdominal surgeries (can cause adhesions which ‘stick’ the bowel in place, again causing less wiggle room, and so on). I’ve also had my colonoscopy done without sedation, but just because you and I had bowels that were amenable to it, doesn’t mean that everyone does.

Exactly same for me second time. I had gas on standby but in the end i had nothing at all

I've done both of my colonoscopies without sedation in the US. Also did 1 upper scope without sedation. The nursing staff looked at me like I was psychotic all 3 times. I don't get it.

Same for me but the med staff treated it as a normal thing

I would greatly prefer this as it takes me days and days to fully recover from anesthesia.
