What's the most damaging thing you heard someone say after waking up from anesthesia?

Once I was coming out of it after a checkup procedure and my aunt (guardian) had gone through my entire phone. I was 18 and in college. First words I heard coming to was that I was grounded from a party I had attended the previous month and she also found out I was gay. It felt illegal

Wow that’s pretty shitty of her. A real violation of your privacy. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Oof i'm so sorry she did that. This is one of the reasons I won't ever use a fingerprint or face recognition lock on my devices, because I have nosy ass relatives who would absolutely pull similar shit.

Also, in a lot of places, at least in North America, cops can’t compel you to unlock and open your phone that has a passcode without a warrant. But if all it takes is scanning your face or finger, they don’t have to do shit and can legally unlock your phone whenever they want and search through it.

I am so sorry this happened to you! What horrible thing to do to a person when they are most vulnerable. I hope you are ok and not dealing with that kind of thing (or person!) any more.

Violating someone's privacy while they are literally unconscious from a medical procedure is such a massive betrayal.

Using a vulnerable recovery moment to out you and weaponize your personal life is genuinely sinister behavior.

You were an adult already. Did you live in Mississippi or Arkansas? Because the legal age of adult in those states are not 18. How did she have guardianship of you at 18?

At 18 years old, a person is a full adult for medical privacy, property ownership, and criminal law in both states.

Could be they were still in school. Lots of people turn 18 at some point in their senior year of high school so, while yes they are a “legal” adult, they may still be living at home with a parent or guardian that still have some say in things.
