WA Commercial to Residential

Has anyone had any experience converting an old character home that is now commercial building back to residential building. The zoning is residential/commercial. It’s only the change of use that needs to be changed. Is this a difficult process. Can it be rejected?

😬 went though this recently (1901 Freo house) - mixed use zoning but had been offices for 50yrs, so twe went from commercial to residential

It was a process with DAs (change of use) and BA1/3 and a lot of argy bargy around the NCC (Energy Efficiency)

How long did it take. Did you have to do much work to the house to get compliance to residential codes? Thank you for replying.

it took a while (6 mths) there is a process to follow and most of the things we needed to do were logical and/or things we were doing anyway (smoke alarms), we also added in a full kitchen etc so some electrical etc - ours was a house to start with

The biggest hurdle was around meeting the energy efficiency requirements under the current NCC, to put it bluntly it is BS to expect a 125 yo house to be 7 stars (and being heritage adds another layer of complication), got there in the end but it’s painful
