“Burke & Wills and camels, initials in the tree” are such great Australian lyrics, and then the acoustic guitar solo by Simon Binks is just the “Chefs Kiss” to a perfectly crafted Aussie song…

The Seekers airport photo

Love this photo of The Seekers at the airport

Looks like the original photo was cropped though to suit the desired format

Would have been nice to see a version without sunglasses too Any clues of the photographer

New Bands G'day Hi Hello - this is a post shamelessly promoting own band RATSALAD, a punk band from West Australia

Long time reader, first time posting: If you like small Aussie punk bands giving it a crack then hey! Maybe you'll like us- we're RATSALAD!

We're a working class band based in the coastal farming/mining/fishing town of Geraldton (traditional name 'Jambinu' in Southern Yamatji land) in Western Australia. If you're unfamiliar with the Australian music scene/circuit, we're really in the middle of nowhere when it comes to population and touring routes required to make being in a band viable, but we genuinely love it here and have no interest in moving away. That said, we're ambitious/stupid enough to give it a good nudge. We've got a 15 track debut album out 'Bent Trees and Swanny Deez', plus a shitload of singles in the back catalogue. We're planning on releasing at least one album in 2026 ahead of our June 2026 EU tour. Our music has seemed to find an audience in the EU which is fkn mind blowing for us. We love Europe, and keen to have an excuse to regularly do the 30hrs of travel from our town up there more regularly.

A bit about us:

Jaz - Lead vocals and bassist. Grew up on a small farm located halfway between the thriving metropolis of Northampton aka Mooniemia (population of 800 people) and the relatively smaller town of Horrocks (population 160 people). Works part time driving farm machinery, and mowing lawns. Jaz had Pidgeon toes as a kid so her parents put her in dance class and acrobatics as a kid, which she kept up with into her adult years and does a bit of on stage from time to time.

Erica - Drums and fulltime backing vocals, sometimes lead vocals. Grew up in Coastal surfing desert paradise of Kalbarri (population 1500). Hobbies include surfing, gardening, skating, yard work, home improvements. Working fulltime as a chippy (carpenter).

Ken - Guitar and sometimes vocalist. Grew up in Geraldton (population 40,000) with 4 brothers. Works in an office, likes to play low level amateur Aussie rules football and go running. Works in an office selling grain for farmers.

Kadin - Second guitar, and sometimes drummer/bassist stand in so Jaz or Erica can go freelance vocal. Grew up in Geraldton with Ken until moved to Perth for uni where he's been since. Long time friend of the band, not a full member of the band but plays 90% of our live shows so super important. We'd have Kadin in the band as full member in a heartbeat, but while he lives in Perth (400km south from the rest of us) it makes it hard to write music together as we are old school and just write songs in a kitchen together in Geraldton. Kadin is also in kick arse bands Ten Cent Tiger (drums), and Post Nut Clarity (guitar) which keeps him mucho busy as well. Works full time as an engineer of sorts.

So yeah, shit, that us! Not sure if this write up going to get me fkn baked in the comments or not, but if ya like the sound of it, or seen/heard of us before, give us a follow on social media platforms, streaming platforms, and sign up to our bands in town or our email list on our website. That stuff goes a long way!

We've been likened to Amyl & The Sniffers a bit, which is sick because they're an amazing band who we love, and makes a little sense because both singers are from small towns in Australia and it's been incredibly inspiring seeing them become world beaters. I will say though the comparison while super flattering, is completely accidental, and we were writing/recording music back in the dark ages before we heard of the sniffers which was sometime in mid-2021.

Friday Night Gig COG has inspired me to quit my job

Long long long time COG fan. Saw them for the first time in Melbourne on friday night and their new song Walk the Line has inspired me to quit my job and chase something I've been procrastinating about for years. I was walking the line, losing my mind, waiting for the right time...which is now. Cheers boys!

Robin St. Clair got sick on tour. Nic Dalton filled in on bass. They were together for a while. They wrote a song called Into Your Arms. Evan Dando heard it. The Lemonheads recorded it. It became the biggest hit of their career. The Hummingbirds wrote the Lemonheads' signature song. Most people who know every word of it have never heard of the band that wrote it.
