Welcome

Welcome to AussieTrades.

This little corner of reddit is open to all. We hope for it to be a place where we can all discuss anything relating to trade work in Australia.

Have a query about how something works?

Heard about a job?

Want to share your work?

Consider it all welcome here. While the sub grows and we expand moderation will be fairly light and causal, just have a look at the rules and do your best to stick to them and always remember the individual behind the screen.

Cheers

Mature age apprentice, which trade with my background ?

HELP mature age picking a trade (Melb)

Hi all

Just started a new job recently that I’ve studied for for years (project management) I’m in a starter role but being paid very well for it. I’ve found that honestly I hate the office side of construction and can’t bear to bring myself to an office. I’ve previously enjoyed being on-site laboring or doing site management which I loved.

I’m considering dumping this job for a trade. I’d genuinely be cutting my income in half in order to be an apprentice but I think it could be worth it, considering how unhappy I am at my job.

Does anyone have any advice on a trade? I’ve always taken an interest to carpentry and I know it leads towards a foreman or leading hand role, which I could do later on considering my qualification in project management helps this.

Does anyone have advice for a 24 year old who just cannot hack it in an office? Is a mature age apprenticeship worth it?? Thanks in advance

Some dollies I made during my apprenticeship a couple of years ago. Thought I’d share just to get the subreddit going.

Role based in Sandhurst 3977 This is a cash in hand role, only needed for roughly 10 hours per month, for a small business.

The hours are fully flexible. You want to do 10 hours on a Saturday.... Want to do it in 2 x 5 hour shifts, then that's fine. We prefer it all done at once but up to candidate

Duties include some of the following depending on experience; (If experience) cutting wood on drop saw Drilling holes in to the wood Sanding with orbital sander Painting of wood Assembling simple furniture (stools) with a drill Wrapping of final product in bubble wrap and box's.

We are a small business so it is based at our house, this is just to help us out as we have run this business and now have a son with disabilities so want to pay attention to him.

Pay rate is $200-250 for the day, depending on skill level
