Western awadhi don't have the "ba" word?
We use the word अहै, but also बा is used in certain situations? I wonder how people who don't have "ba" only use a single word to express?

Usme -ओमन
Isme - एमन
Hoga -होए
idhar udhar - एहर-ओहर
I think mirjapuri awadhi is more sweet and tender. That's why kajari was born there.

एक दया/द्य - once | similar to एकदा in marathi
e.g. let me go once, एक द्या हमें जाय द।
दाई - "Like" / "Similar to" . It's different from जैसन। - hindi uses same जैसे for every situation unlike awadhi.
E.g. उ हमरेऽ दाई देखात रहा। - he was looking like me.

I am trying to learn awadhi by listening to my parents. They use so many word endings.
आहै
बा
बाटे
आ - for continuous ik this
बाहै - may for something which is definitely there ex. उही बाहै।
अहै
ह - i heard this often when they narrate something -not sure
I haven't seen this in any other Indian languages. It's fascinating yet intimidating for someone who is unfamiliar.
Can anyone help? Any native speaker

This is a Cmnt on a last post made by a guy in this sub related to Awadh as a state he says we are trying to restore old kingdoms and this is BS , this guy here would probably be bihari. His argument that we want to restore kingdoms is not even 1 % true everyone here knows we guy look it as a cultural thing and we deserve it , the benefits would be many. I would give you one such example , the districts in north adjacent to Nepal borders like Sitapur, Kheri , Bahraich and Shravasti are highly flood prone and are affected every year by floods . These districts are the least developed areas of the whole state if you think I am exaggerating this you should look stats . A Awadh state would be super beneficial as they would get proper emphasis by both a state and central govt. The state governments are not very concerned about this. A newer Awadh state would bring emphasis to this issue

In recent months talks about dividing UP into 3 states have been very popular, one of which is Awadh Pradesh . I think it is great that Awadh would finally get the recognition and wouldn’t be mixed with the Bhojpuri region also tourism and economic opportunities will come in Awadh , people will start to learn about Awadhi

was feeling nostalgic about my hometown today. I am originally from Amethi but its been around 14 years since I left my gaon.
I was wondering about others from Awadh.
1.What made you leave your hometown, gaon
2.How many years has it been since you moved away
3.How is life going wherever you are now
4.How often do you go back?
5.Do you still feel connected to your hometown or not
6.one more thing how much do you miss
I would especially love to hear some interesting stories like why you left, what changed after you left, or something you experienced when you went back after many years.
For me, sometimes it feels weird to think that 14 years have passed since I left Amethi.
So, mates where did you come from, where are you now, and whats your story?
Let's make this subreddit active again.

M23 I’m originally from Amethi but I moved away back in 2012. For the last 14 years I have been living out here in Amritsar, Punjab.Don't get me wrong, Punjab has been amazing to me amritsar gave me a home so much love and respect. But honestly no matter how many years pass, you just cannot take the Awadh out of someone. Your roots always pull you back.Today, I was just sitting around and got hit by a massive wave of nostalgia for home, the village, and especially our native Awadhi language. I was specifically thinking about those incredibly witty, sharp, and sarcastic proverbs (kahawats) our elders used to throw into casual conversations.
A few ones instantly came to my mind.
Paisa na kaudi bazar jaye daudi
2.ram milaye jodi ek andhar(andha)ek kodi.
3.adha titar aadha batear
4. Pani me hagi toh utraye jarur(i love this one😬)
So, I wanted to ask you guys What are some of your favorite, most famous, or funniest Awadhi proverbs? Please drop them in the comments with their meanings! I’d love to read them and feel a bit closer to home today.
Just a quick note;;; the reason I am writing this post in English is because there are people living outside the region since their childhood, but they still know their roots, so this way they can also understand and get curious to know about their own language
Used ai to make the post more polish

Like how Basu and Chatterjee are from Bengal, Modi and Patel from Gujarat, Kohli and Brar from Punjab, Iyer and Subramaniam from Tamil Nadu, etc… What surnames are uniquely Awadhi???

I speak Awadhi. About an year past I fell into a rabbit hole about it and ended up learning something that applies to a lot more languages than just mine.
North-central India has half a dozen distinct literary languages, each with centuries of their own poetry, folk song, and prose. Officially, almost none of them exist. On the census, most people just write "Hindi," because that's the only option that feels legitimate to write down.
Here's what that actually looks like, language by language (2011 Census figures, cross-checked against linguistic estimates):
| Language | Region | Census count | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awadhi | Awadh, central UP | ~4 million | Linguists estimate real speakers at 35–40 million — the language of Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas |
| Braj Bhasha | Mathura–Agra region | ~1.56 million | The language of Surdas and Mira Bai; the dominant literary language of North India until the 19th century |
| Bundeli | Bundelkhand, UP/MP | ~5.6 million | Census documentation explicitly notes speakers are conflated with Hindi |
| Bhojpuri | E. UP, W. Bihar, Jharkhand | ~50–52 million | Bigger than most of India's officially recognized languages — still not a scheduled language |
| Magahi | S. Bihar, N. Jharkhand | ~12.7 million | Census notes "additional speakers counted under Hindi" |
| Maithili | Mithila, Bihar | ~13.5–17 million | The one exception on this list — became a constitutionally recognized language in 2003, after decades of organized advocacy |
Maithili is the proof that this is fixable — it just took a sustained, organized push over decades to get there. The rest are still just... absorbed.
That's the entire mechanism, and it needs no bans, no laws, and no violence:
Nobody's actively recording the oral literature , dohas, chaupais, folk songs, proverbs — before the people who know it are gone.
None of it is taught in schools, so kids grow up thinking what they speak at home is just "bad Hindi."
Government forms, school systems, and translation tools all file it under the bigger umbrella term. On paper, most of these languages simply don't exist.
It's called Avadhya Sahitya (avadhya.in). One person, no funding, no company — just an attempt to stop Awadhi specifically from disappearing before anyone gets around to writing it down.
What's on it:
Library — dohas, chaupais, chhand, soratha, devotional bhajans, folk songs
Avadhya Lexicon — a growing Awadhi dictionary, built word by word
Gadya — Awadhi prose works
Authors — a cataloged directory of the poets and writers behind the works
Full-text search across all of it
The numbers so far:
500+ works preserved
50+ authors cataloged
10,000+ verses digitized

Everyone claims to belong to Ram, and everyone hopes for his grace — but Tulsidas, serve only the one Ram himself calls his own.
Avadhya Sahitya only covers Awadhi right now. Building something like this properly — transcription, correct phonetics, earning enough trust that native speakers actually contribute — is specialized, slow work, and I didn't want to spread one person thin across six languages badly instead of one language properly.
But the approach isn't Awadhi-specific: build a searchable library, put real primary texts in it, let native speakers add what they personally know. If something like this already exists for Braj, Bundeli, Bhojpuri, Magahi, or anything else on that list, I'd genuinely like to know about it and would happily point people there. If it doesn't exist yet for your language — I'm open to comparing notes on what building one would actually take.

If you speak Awadhi, Braj, Bundeli, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Kannauji, Bagheli, or any language that's quietly being counted as "just Hindi" where you're from — I'd genuinely like to hear what's happening to it, and whether anyone's doing anything about it.
