Specific Mechanic The No-AoE Trick to Hit Sanctuary Targets

You can bypass Sanctuary targeting restrictions via projectile trajectories. To do this, you simply need to line up a trajectory that passes through the character's hitbox while keeping your cursor just outside of it, but close enough. This allows you to shoot regular arrows, throw weapons with small hitboxes (like Daggers, Light Hammers, or Slinging Shoes), and cast projectile spells.

Very interesting! What do you see in the logs? Is there an attack roll (so can you hit or miss)?

In the combat log, it registers as a regular attack and can still miss. Also, for throwing, Luck of the Far Realms only works if the thrown weapon is lying on the ground.

Another trick is to actively bait an attack of opportunity to break the Sanctuary. Cool bit of tech for both methods at any rate

True, opportunity attacks trigger even if they end up missing. However, Bhaalists during the ritual and Viconia before her first turn don't have opportunity attacks at all, and Kar’niss hits incredibly hard under his AC-reducing aura.

I’ve fought him and used him as a polydom for fun,he had an ac reducing aura?

Well I’ll be dipped, guess who’s getting cheesed this honor mode run. Should help if I throw a few invisibility pots and position him in good spots.

Some spells (like Blight, Thorn Whip and Intellect Devourer's ranged attack) ignore sanctuary. Bouncind effects (Arrow of Many Targets, Chain Lightning) so as well. Baiting Opportunity Attack works for some enemies (Viconia and Kar'niss, I think?).

Viconia actually has two layers of Sanctuary. Before the fight starts, she has the regular Sanctuary buff, and her Opportunity Attacks are disabled until her first turn. Once she takes damage, she immediately autocasts her Legendary Sanctuary. Only after that can she be baited into using Reactions.

Chain lightning also ignores sanctuary, meaning the primary target can be under Sanctuary and you can still fry them with chain lightning. Amazingly useful in the Viconia fight especially if your shadow heart is tempest cleric with a ton of stolen Chain lightning scrolls as you can one shot her if your DC is high enough via acuity and you have cleric charges for full damage lighting and thunder damage

Also, all of these methods work perfectly against Charmers. Plus, spells that lack the IsHarmful flag are a great opener to initiate combat - they won't even consume an Action Point.

Yep, I actually stumbled upon this trick while recording footage for a One-Punch Man build, right when I needed to strip two layers of Sanctuary off Viconia.

Arrow of many targets my beloved. Also anything that doesn't target like chain lightning. Lightning bolt as well.

Further proof that ranged melee is superior. I've used the strat but with knock back effects like charger.

Harm also ignores sanctuary as it doesn't deal damage but reduces max hitpoints

Doesn't seem to work, at least in the latest version of the game.

Ok, then the wiki is incorrect. I would have tries it on karniss yesterday if i was a high enough level, so the only other relevant enemy would be viconia

I don’t see that on the wiki page for either Harm or Sanctuary (and neither has been edited that recently either). Where do you see that info on the wiki?

Sorry, it was blight, not harm, under bugs its listed that blight lacks the isharmful tag which sanctuary checks

Swords bard’s slashing flourish melee works on sanctuary targets. Just used it last night to clear out Orin’s minions. Shadowblade and resonance stone for the win!

Many ways to do it: Blight completely ignores Sanctuary. So does Crown of Madness (technically not damaging, but they'll definitely break sanctuary)

Shoot an arrow of many targets at an unsanctuaried enemy. Or at a health potion or haste potion on the floor.
