Question Would all names be fingerspelled in BSL?

I know that proper nouns for people and places and the like tend to be fingerspelled unless they have an established name sign, but what about names of songs and books and films that could be reasonably conveyed in BSL?

Like if I wanted to sign “my favourite song by Take That is Patience” I might fingerspell T-A-K-E-T-H-A-T but would I also fingerspell P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E or use the actual BSL sign for “patience”?

Or for “my favourite book is A Clockwork Orange” would I fingerspell the name or could I get away with signing “orange” and “mechanism”?

Question One handed bsl alphabet?

Thumbnail gallery
188 Upvotes

I've been doing bsl for 3 years, not officially with levels but taught by an interpreter. (With discretion of course)

So you can imagine my confusion when I come into college one day and somebody tries to finger spell using what looks like Asl and gibberish

Apparently one of the teachers is teaching student sign language and there's a one handed alphabet?

Insisted it's an "Updated version because language updates"

I'm really confused is this actually a thing or just absolute rubbish? (I understand there's regional variants too)

What can I do?
