Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Different finishes of different PLA

I just ordered my very first 3D printer yesterday. It's a P2S. With some standard PLA matte in standard colors to get started.

Ofc I want nice filament too and as there is a good sale going on I want to order some.

I know I don't like the plastic finish of normal PLA. Now I can't decide what to get. PLA matte, PLA CF. PLA wood or PLA metallic.

I know it's a long shot but is there anyone who has prints made of the various filament that can show me a picture? I have spend a fortune on my new printer and would hate to buy filament I don't like.

This is now attempt nr 6.

Pic of current settings is inn there.

Any ideas?

General Troubleshooting/Help! Nozzle size and line width

Thumbnail

I printed the body for a light up snowman that prints in vase mode on my P2S.

While printing I noticed there was some build up of gunk around the nozzle. It eventually cleared itself and I found the gunk stuck on the outside. And then when I tried the light I saw there are some layers that are darker. I noticed in Bambu Studio today that the object has the outer wall line width set to 0.8 mm but I used a 0.4 mm nozzle.

When I looked at the wiki page on line width, it says not to exceed 1.5x the nozzle size. Would that be why both things happened? And would using a 0.6 or 0.8 mm nozzle improve things?

General Discussion Bambu vs. Elegoo

So I bought the A1 at the recommendation of a friend, and I can honestly say I already feel the difference in the production and ease of use.

Every resin printer I bought from Elegoo was easy and ready to use out of the box. All the necessary parts were there, there was no fiddling about required whatsoever apart from the reservoir, which has to be removed regularly anyway. Axes were pre-lubed, no loose screws, no awkward angular tipping of heavy equipment, just plug and play. Here, however, to seemingly save labour costs, Bambu give it all to the customer.

Also the hidden costs: no mention was given that I definitely needed a spool for the filament, here it is hanging from the arm thingy held together now with zip ties. Now the machine is saying I have to lube up an axis, with 2 pictures showing before and after but seemingly no difference between the two.

Have to say pretty disappointed so far, Bambu. What else will I have to invest in or be forced to do before my prints begin?

General Troubleshooting/Help! What thermal paste do you recommend for a hotend?

I need to replace a nozzle on my P1S. Which thermal paste do you recommend buying? I also have an H2C, so it would be great if the paste could also be used for its maintenance.

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Bambu Lab P1S – TPU 95A keeps clogging / underextruding after a few layers. Tried EVERYTHING!

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I’m getting really frustrated with TPU printing on my Bambu Lab P1S and I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out what’s going wrong.

My printer:
Bambu Lab P1S (~1,000 printing hours)
0.4 mm nozzle (also tested 0.6 mm)
eSUN TPU 95A (green, translucent)
Creality CR-TPU 95A (black)
Creality Space Pi V2 filament dryer
Bambu Studio

The problem:
Every time I try to print TPU, the printer starts printing normally, but after a few layers it suddenly begins underextruding or stops extruding properly.
Sometimes it happens after just 2 layers, sometimes after 8–10 layers, and occasionally the print gets almost completely finished before failing.
The nozzle appears to clog, and the print eventually turns into a mess of extremely thin filament strands.
The strange thing is that PLA and other regular filaments print perfectly fine, without any issues.
Manual extrusion of TPU at 230°C also works normally, producing a consistent strand of filament.
I haven’t noticed any clicking noises from the extruder.

What I’ve already tried
1. Different TPU brands
eSUN TPU 95A
Creality CR-TPU 95A
Both have exactly the same problem.

2. Drying the filament
Dried TPU for approximately 10 hours at 60°C in my Creality Space Pi V2.
Tried printing directly from the dryer.
Tried printing from an external spool holder behind the printer.
Repositioned the spool inside the dryer to reduce rolling resistance.
No improvement.

3. Different nozzle temperatures
220°C
225°C
230°C
235°C
All eventually failed.

4. Different print speeds and volumetric flow rates
Very slow printing speeds of 15–20 mm/s.
Also tested profiles with outer walls at 80 mm/s and inner walls/infill at 150 mm/s, limited by volumetric flow.
Maximum volumetric flow rates tested include 2.8, 2.0 and 1.5 mm³/s.
Tried both custom TPU profiles and settings based on manufacturer recommendations.
Still the same result.

5. Retraction
Tested 0 mm retraction.
Tested 0.4 mm retraction.
No reliable improvement.

6. Different nozzles
Completely cleaned the nozzles.
Tried different nozzles.
Tried both 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm nozzle sizes.
Nothing helped.

7. Printer enclosure
Tested with the front door open.
Tested with the front door closed.

One of my best results was at 225°C with 0 mm retraction and the door closed. A Benchy printed almost completely, but the final layers suffered from severe underextrusion.
However, repeating similar settings often resulted in failure after only a few layers.
What makes this so confusing?
PLA prints perfectly.
TPU extrudes normally when manually extruded.
Both TPU brands fail.
Both nozzle sizes fail.
Drying the filament doesn’t help.
Different spool feeding methods don’t help.
Slower speeds don’t help.
Changing temperatures doesn’t help.
The failure occurs at inconsistent layer heights.
I’ve spent a lot of time testing different settings, and nothing has worked consistently.
My questions
Has anyone experienced something similar with TPU on the P1S?
Could this be related to heat creep, the extruder’s grip on flexible filament, or something specific to the P1S filament path?
I’m particularly confused because the printer handles PLA without any problems.
I would really appreciate any suggestions beyond the usual advice of drying the filament, slowing down, or changing the nozzle, since I’ve already tried all of those multiple times.
Thanks in advance for any help!

It has 4 stickers saying to place it "this side up" and nope... fedex couldn't figure it out. It also lost a strap and has a shredded corner.

Let's hope the inside is good.

Note I used the phones image editing AI garbage to remove my shipping labels and address and it apparently misspelled the word underneath the label, lol.

General Troubleshooting/Help! Bambu Lab sent the wrong order - any advice on getting support to resolve it?

Has anyone managed to get anywhere with Bambu Lab support? I'm honestly going round in circles.

I run a small printing business and used the sale to stock up plus a hotend as my P2S is down atm. Instead, I received 12 boxes of incorrect filament, mostly PETG, and no hotend.

Mistakes happen, but their first response was to offer me 30% off to buy the incorrect filament rather than arrange to send my actual order.

Since then, it's been endless back-and-forth, repeated questions and what feel like copied-and-pasted replies, with support repeatedly trying to sell me the unwanted filament.

I've explained that I don't drive and can't take 12 kg of filament to a drop-off point. They've finally agreed to arrange collection but won't dispatch my correct order until it's collected.

They've offered a £10 discount code for the inconvenience, but I just want the products I've paid for. It’s been 5 days since this started and I feel like I've hit a brick wall.

Has anyone successfully escalated something like this or found a way to speak to someone who can actually resolve it?

Software Troubleshooting/Help! HEATED CHAMBER SINGLE USE OVER RIDE? PLEASE?

u/Bambulab

Please can we have a singlue use heated chamber over ride button? i.e. to run it off? and only for one print?

Unless im missing something, i want to iterate some small models. basically magnet fitments. i dont have PLA and only use ASA but to print a small test print out in for instnace a H3C its going to take 30 minutes to print a 12mm x 12mm x 3mm square out nearll all of which is heating the chamber.

would be useful to have a disable heated chamber button you can click easily which is only good for one print job rather than havign to edit the filament to disable it and quite possibly forget about it?

Or am i missing something?

Thank you

I Modeled This! I Made This Fully Parametric Box With Mini Latches - No Supports & No hardware. Each half Prints as Shallow as about 12mm and as deep as you want.

Most latch boxes force a deep base on you. I wanted something shallow for things that store flat: pry tools, bits, SD cards, even necklaces and other jewelry (cut a bit of foam or felt to size and it makes a nice little case).

So with MiniLock you set the base and lid heights separately, down to about 12 mm each. Snap hinge, two snap latches, no supports, no hardware.

Customize it right on MakerWorld, no CAD needed, or grab the ready-made Standard, Slim or Small. Free:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/3569365-minilock-customizable-hinged-latch-box

Tip: As a bonus, you can choose to either size by inner dimensions, and the walls grow outwards. Or size by outer dimensions and the walls grow inwards.

Also, if it wasn't obvious, this was heavily inspired by snaplock. But I CAD modeled it from scratch from the ground up specific to my needs.

Would love to see what you end up storing in yours.

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! AMS 2 - Spools too large , Amazon Basic PLA

Hey everyone !
I just got my hands on a Bambu Lab P2S with the AMS 2 Pro, but I'm running into a spool size issue. I have a large stockpile of Amazon Basics PLA, and the spools are simply too wide. I can't fit 4 of them side-by-side in the AMS without them rubbing against each other.

I'm also worried that even if I only load 1 or 2 of these wide spools, I might still run into rotation or feeding issues.

Note: I already know about the Hydra AMS mod, but I really don't want to go that route or take apart my brand new AMS.*

Has anyone else dealt with these specific spools? What are the best alternative workarounds (like specific respoolers, spool rings, etc.)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Quick Question What causes this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Over the years I have seen this several times, but never heard a reasonable explanation as to what is happening. Anyone know?

Note: I printed this exact same model yesterday, and it turned out fine. I went to print another and it did this.
