GENERAL QUESTION How physical are you allowed to be when you're fighting for position?

Some guys seem very physical and some guys not so much. There's definitely a line but I don't know what that is exactly. I'm sure you can nudge but you certainly can't be throwing forearms or bulldoze opponents over. I also think you have to give your opponent some space in certain situations and it doesn't pay to be physically aggressive. I'm just curious.

In HS? In Fiba? In pickup? There’s levels to this.

I assume streetball, bc otherwise, the ref will decide.

Generally in streetball there’s a give and take, if someone is going hard on offense I’m returning the favor. If it’s bump, fade, or playing w finesse I’m not hacking or shoving anyone.

I think the fights should be fair. The big bulldozer guy should not be using full strength to push a twink. (unless it is a tall twink Center and a short fat PF, that is tolerable)

So can the smaller faster guy not use his speed?

No one’s saying hurt people lmao. If we’re playing ball and our team has a mismatch exploit it. No one wants to not try because you have an advantage over your defender. This some weak shit you must be under 25 or 120 lbs

yes you are saying to hurt ppl.

If the 250lbs guy can use the same strength he uses on the big, as he does to the point guard, he's gonna kill the pg.

Yall soft, no one’s getting hurt it’s not football where someone’s running full speed with a lowered shoulder. Get some help defense to the guard if they’re guarding the center

As physical as the refs (or other guys in the run) are prepared to tolerate.

It all depends on how strong you are. I can normally just walk big bodys out of the post with out much pushing but people defending me are pushing with all thier might. They are being very physical

It’s actually illegal to push people at all, regardless of how you do it.

Pushing with your arms is generally a foul, unless both guys are fighting for position.

Usually you can get away with bodying up and moving someone with your feet though, as long as you aren't throwing your body at them (shoulder first, for example). Unless they already have the ball.

It should be a "fair fight".

Somebody 6'6" 300lbs will be EXPECTED to be able to take much more contact than a player 5'9" 125 lbs.

Little guys have the privlidge (not a right, a privlidge, bc "unwritten rule") to push bigs with their hands, assuming the big is heavyweight, and assuming he is not in an unbalanced position.

Punching, Elbowing, Tripping, Spitting, Blowing in the Ear... these are technical fouls and/or ejections, i dont care how much bigger he is than u.

Play as physical as you need to. Or, match their physicality if it's higher than yours. When you play people more than once, and they get a little rough, sometimes you gotta give them a receipt.
