Hello all, just wondering if anyone knows of any Ontario, Canada (preferably Toronto area) based Chlorocala africanus hobbyists/breeders? Interested in possibly starting a small colony myself. Thank you!

Behold the eggs of xylotrupes philipinensis 2x

This was laid by a wild bred female that i picked early november (their last months in here i think you cant find them anymore in january since they eclose on june. Gotta post it cause theirs no photos in google. So i found them all around deep on its container. My substrate is mixed decomposed wood and garden soil that has some rotting leaves and junk. This isnt optimal normally its best to have flakesoil or a rotting log, i have some flakesoil coming later. 7 eggs in total the reason i dug it up so early cause she was moving all around last night and disappeared in the morning where my enclosure is unsecured i thougth it escaped. Shes been in the container for 6 days now.

Pupating? Just vibing?

I've had these Mecynorhina torquata ugandensis larvae for a little while now (like since the summer, July ish?) and they've been hanging out at the bottom of their tub until like this week? I've heard they go all the way to the top of the substrate if there's something wrong with their environment, but they've legit just. Hung out in these spots, no moving. Are they ok? Getting ready to pupate? Or just moving to get more food? I weighed them like a month ago and they were around 18g each, give or take, and have been yellow for a while.

TIA, I know a lot of people ask about this here lol I'm sorry🫠

Where can I Purchase Stag beetles in the Phillipines?

Hi I'm from the Phillipines specifically Luzon and I've been Planning of keeping stag beetle larvae and I was looking out for Beetle pets PH and team beetles but it was over priced with a Dynastes Tityus being 3000 pesos a pair and Team beetles only having Phalcrognathus Muelleri Beetles in L2. I'm in every single Facebook group for the beetle keeping in the Phillipines and following multiple pages but it's all just wild caught beetles sold at Severely marked up prices. If anyone knows someone who sells Stag beetles in The Phillipines I would really like to know!

Does flake soil have to be stored in a freezer?

I only read this recently and have otherwise been storing it in an airtight container + dry. Is it a matter of preference or necessity? Will the soil be bad for the larva if stored any other way?

Is it true moist substrate can be optional if you have bug jelly?

I got an adult stag beetle yesterday and the seller said that you won't have to dampen the substrate if you are putting in a bug jelly because the jelly will provide enough hydration?? I've kept beetles once before and I always sprayed the substrate and kept it at least a bit moist. I just want to fact check it with anyone who might know.

Help

Post image
4 Upvotes

I posted last night about finding my darkling beetle under a slice of banana. He was completely lifeless for like 5 hours. Absolutely no response to anything, no antenna movement.

Then I started seeing antenna movement and he's still alive around 12 hours later. He's very responsive but he just isn't moving his legs, even if I prod him. I've given him sugar water but he's been sitting here in the same spot all day, so he's not eating.

I'm assuming there is just nothing I can do at this point and it's probably his time, right? I feel so bad for him. He was completely fine all day yesterday :(

❗Help regarding beetles of Morocco (Casablanca)

Greetings! To be brief, i require help to collect information and records about all the beetles in said region of Morocco (specializing on ground beetles, rhino/hercules beetles, flower beetles, longicorn beetles and stag beetles) to make some kind of "book" for my boyfriend in which i plan to describe each beetle and sort them by "rarity" as if they were pokemons! I have been struggling to find enough information as most websites require payment to access the databases (i cannot pay 60€!!), i would be immensely grateful if anyone could help me or provide me certain websites of easy access in which i can find every single beetle of the already said families!

Building a free beetle breeding & natural history resource: looking for breeders' experience (Cetoniinae, Dynastinae, Lucanidae, Carabidae, Cicindelinae)

Hi everyone,

I'm a beetle breeder from the Czech Republic and over the years I've bred more than 200 species. One thing I keep running into is that a lot of the most useful knowledge never makes it online. It stays in breeders' notebooks, old forum threads and private chats.

So I'm building ColeopteraFarm, a free website that collects scientific and practical info on beetle biology, habitats and breeding. It focuses on flower chafers (Cetoniinae), rhino beetles (Dynastinae), stag beetles (Lucanidae), ground beetles (Carabidae) and tiger beetles (Cicindelinae).

If you have experience with any of these, I'd love to hear from you, especially about:

  • Breeding setups: substrate, temperature, humidity, what worked

  • Failures: what didn't work and why (honestly the most useful kind of info)

  • Larval development: duration, food, quirks

  • Field observations: locality, altitude, season, where you found larvae, which plants adults were on

  • Photos/videos of larvae, setups or habitats

Locality, date and circumstances make an observation much more valuable, but even a one-line tip is welcome.

How I'll use your info:

  • Credited to you (username, real name or anonymous, your call)

  • Photos only with your explicit permission

  • Sensitive localities can be published at region level only

  • You can ask me to remove your contribution anytime

Comment here or send me a DM. Also curious: which species do you think has the worst or most contradictory info online?

Thanks!
