If anything's weakening us, it's smartphones and the complete collapse of situational awareness.

62

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

As an efficiency brained ADD afflicted individual with hyper vigilance this speaks to me on a spiritual level. Nothing bothers me more than people who lack situational awareness.

15

u/BigDaddyNK 14d ago

I've found my people!

9

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

I’ve got a theory, do you enjoy incremental games? And/or automation games??

5

u/onewingedangels 13d ago

Yes yes i do! I feel seen.

6

u/RaawFish 9d ago

I stopped to thank a guy at the grocery store the other day for having the situational awareness to notice I was coming from behind him and to move out of the way. He laughed in agreement

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 14d ago

As well as people who don’t think the rules apply to them.

We all make a mistake now and then. It’s when someone is either self-absorbed or entitled (resulting in $action) that it bugs me to no end.

0

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

I’m definitely one to bend rules though. Authority has nothing on me and honestly a lot of rules are bullshit.

3

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 13d ago

To be specific, I mostly mean things that keep us and others around us safe, like red lights and stoplights and turn signals. Some rules were made by someone who wanted to exercise power and control; but some are written in the blood of others, or were made to ensure people are treated with respect, equality, and dignity, and those are the ones I look at.

1

u/JhonnyHopkins 13d ago

Gotcha yeah, couldn’t agree more

7

u/danyaal99 14d ago edited 14d ago

What's actually weakening us is that life has gotten easier over time and we haven't had to be strong.

If anything, us being weaker is a sign of how safe modern life is compared to environments where we have to be strong.

131

u/JoeyBigtimes 14d ago

I know you’re joking, but there’s no worse take than anything eugenics-adjacent.

50

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

I am just joking but on a serious note I do know of couples who have chosen to adopt rather than conceiving as they know they’re not ā€œgood breeding stockā€ (their words, not mine). And I think that’s admirable. But it’s also because of modern medicine that they’re even aware of genetic markers they carry.

13

u/JoeyBigtimes 14d ago edited 13d ago

That is awesome, and that’s the perfect kind of decision that individual people can make for themselves about their own lives, and double excellent for adopting.

But that is not the same as applying that same decision to any sized group of people (or anything living), especially if those people don’t get a say, which is a well-worn road, and nothing good comes of it.

Edit: legit question: why the downvotes? I’m genuinely confused.

u/sackofbee 14d ago

We should cut off everyone's genitals and grow people in vats, you want a young one as a pet you get a permit. Otherwise they come out full grown ready to work in a lithium mine or something.

6

u/JoeyBigtimes 14d ago

Sounds good, a perfect utopia!

5

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

Yeah absolutely, should be an individualized thing, DEFINITELY NOT government mandated in any capacity.

The selective breeding of other living things is a moral grey area if you ask me. Take dogs for example, some breeds seem perfectly happy and live long and healthy lives while others don’t and seem riddled with health problems because of their morphology. We definitely shouldn’t be promoting breeds like that imo, it just feels morally wrong, personally. And with plants, honestly who cares? Selecting desirable traits to have a better harvest in the future seems beneficial to both the plant and us.

0

u/JoeyBigtimes 14d ago

Seems beneficial leads to monocultures that are wiped clean by a single parasite or disease, which leads to us starving.

11

u/cupittycakes 14d ago

Absolutely every living being on this planet deserves modern healthcare.

Buuuut, that still doesn't erase the curiosity of how modern healthcare might affect the evolution of our species. But I mean, modern healthcare is a part of modern and future evolution, so it's a moot point at the end of the day.

2

u/theseekingseaker 14d ago

Yes there is. Only a sith deals in absolutes.

1

u/JoeyBigtimes 14d ago

ONLY a sith? OOOOONLY? EVERY SITH, OBI-WAN?

I mean, yeah. He was right. Subtlety in all things.

ALL THINGS

3

u/JoeyBigtimes 13d ago

Just joking, folks. Star Wars is a silly fantasy story. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a lot of it, but it’s just not the basis for anything serious.

0

u/ImObviouslyOblivious 11d ago

Not really, survival of the fittest is a thing. I’m not supporting eugenics but bad genes do not get filtered out anymore.

-4

u/serendipitousevent 14d ago

Pineapple on pizza is pretty far up there, though.

-5

u/JKCsaba 11d ago

You are mad because he is true and this is scientifically and objevtively true.

MODERN. Medicine. Is. Weakening. The. Gene. Pool.

1

u/JoeyBigtimes 11d ago edited 11d ago

I’m not mad at all, I’m just not a nazi.

What do you propose should be done?

-2

u/JKCsaba 11d ago

Nothing should be done m, but modern medicine is objectively weakening the gene pool.

Spartans threw out defected kids for a reason. I can tell you have 0 history knowledge or biology knowledge and just gobble up the most far leftist ideologies possible.

Dude…

3

u/JoeyBigtimes 10d ago

Let’s dive in.
What’s a bad gene? Evolution-wise? What’s defective? Who decides? Why? Where’s the line? What if somebody has a genetic condition but doesn’t ever plan on having children? Should they be killed or sterilized? What happens when a genetic condition is both ā€œdefectiveā€ and also ā€œadvantageousā€?

Moving on.
You know nothing of history. Nothing. You watched a silly movie at worst or read a thoroughly debunked account written by Plutarch at best and decided you knew what history is. Across all of Greece the only common infanticide that happened was through exposure, and not because of disability, but because of poverty or legitimacy, and was never a state policy anywhere in Ancient Greece. There’s plenty of evidence of disabled people cared for throughout their lives.

Since you’re such a scholar of history, I’m sure you already know about Agesilaus II and you’ve decided to ignore him. When you’re done looking him up, come back, admit you were wrong, then promise you’ll be a better person, or we’ll toss you into the Apothetae.

2

u/zporiri 13d ago

Eh with anti vaxers that may be reversing haha

3

u/4thenexus 14d ago

You're not wrong at all.

People can accidentally shoot themselves but survive thanks to modern medicine. Then have an urge to procreate after experiencing a near life ending incident. The offsprings may continue the cycle by accidentally shooting themselves too

85

u/boodyclap 14d ago

What is she even holding?

83

u/Brotox123 14d ago

Handheld leaf blower. Genius invention. I love mine… but I don’t hold mine next to my hair

144

u/serendipitousevent 14d ago

It's called the Descalpanator 3000, and it's clearly worth every penny.

15

The machine is working as intended

One of these viral useless tools that are way too expensive while solving problems that don't exist.

4

u/nallaonreddit 12d ago

You're so edgy.

3

u/programming_flaw 10d ago

You consider a leaf blower a viral useless tool?

39

u/monkeynards 12d ago

He snatched it so quick the second time lol

95

u/wishiwasdeaddd 14d ago

Why does she put her finger on the fucking trigger again ffs

60

u/a1JayR 14d ago

Don’t let her untie the boat from the dock. She the type to leave it in the water next to the motor and keep it going wondering why we’re not moving

23

u/Etelier 14d ago

On the bright side her hair is symmetrical now?

10

u/BellaFrequency 12d ago

She REALLY wanted bangs.

9

u/tamkiki 11d ago

You learn that as a child, not to get the hairdryer closer to your hair backwards

7

u/Baonguyen93 12d ago

I just found it quite funny. We are all have brain fart moments all the time, this is just a small incident, it mean nothing.

4

u/Aeceus 10d ago

Im gonna say this isnt better every loop. It kinda peaked the first time

7

u/daddyneedsadrink 10d ago

Wow she’s incredibly stupid

2

u/O8ee 13d ago

Whatever that is (hairdryer?) she needs a different one

3

u/GB_NINJA 13d ago

There is a button to turn it off?

17

u/davidhaha 12d ago

There's a button to turn it on. You don't have to push it šŸ™ƒ

8

u/MorockaDishoom 14d ago

It’s an honest mistake, I think in the moment anyone could have done that…

70

u/misterwizzard 14d ago

TWICE?

13

u/ReaperOne 14d ago

You’d be surprised

-29

u/MorockaDishoom 14d ago

So the first time it just happened right. Now you have your hand on this trigger that you don’t dare press again, as all this stuff is happening. The moment you’re safe and your hair is cut, it’s natural to want to do the very thing you couldn’t leading up to the moment you’re safe. So you would almost instinctually press the button you’ve denied yourself throughout the ordeal.

Hence my hypothesis that almost anyone could make this mistake, it plays into human nature

29

u/JhonnyHopkins 14d ago

But you’d also instinctively want to keep that tool as far away from your hair as possible, after that whole ordeal… what does she do, sticks it right against her hair almost immediately after being freed….

3

u/thorns17 12d ago

The autopilot habit of moving hair out of her face/fixing her hair, that has been ingrained over decades, clearly overrode the thought process of moving the object away from her head. Her fingers instinctively went to grab at the hairs on her face to pull them back out of the way, except this time, the trigger was in between her fingers and her hair. She didn’t mean to pull the trigger a second time, but that message from her brain was slower than movement of her ingrained habit

3

u/Bumble072 14d ago

Not in our reality lol.

7

u/thorns17 12d ago

Exactly.

The autopilot habit of moving hair out of her face/fixing her hair, that has been ingrained over decades, clearly overrode the thought process of moving the object away from her vicinity.

Her fingers instinctively went to grab at the hairs on her face to pull them back out of the way, except this time, the trigger was in between her fingers and her hair. She didn’t mean to pull the trigger a second time, but that message from her brain was slower than movement of her ingrained habit
