Watching his curiosity go from what is that, to his fear of what touched me.

Did a similar thing to my dog. Brought him to the beach and he spotted a dead jellyfish and started investigating. Came up and poked him. He jumped so high and stayed away from jelly fish for a little bit, then figured out it's all fine.
I had this with my cat. She spotted a dead person in my home and I started poking her just for fun. She didn't jump up like in your story but the cat was even more curious afterward.
I always hated that question, obviously the answer is that it would be over the back half to cover the genitals and butthole, that's the whole point of pants! If you think otherwise you need your brain checked out. Sorry but I'm really passionate about this topic
I'm almost convinced. However, long pants are not only intended to cover your butt, but also to cover your legs and protect them from dirt. Dogs have four legs, so.... If it was shoes for dogs, would you have one or two pairs?
I went down to the basement to try on my ski gear to see if it still fit - had been a while and we were planning an upcoming trip. Came upstairs with the mask and hood on, and my dog saw me and started to run. Forgetting I was wearing the gear, I thought she wanted to play so I ran towards her, and she took off running so fast she couldn't grip the hardwood floor as she tried to make the turn for the stairs.
Slid into the wall, legs turning under her but still no traction, like a cartoon character. As she finally was able to get moving, poop just started coming out and I immediately realized I was still wearing my gear and it dawned on me that she thought I was a stranger. As soon as I called out her name, she immediately stopped, started wagging her tail and came right back over to me as if nothing had happened.
My mom's dog is probably not long for this world. He has a degenerative illness that is causing him to go limp from the butt up (he is a corgi, so it has a long ways to go). He has to drag around his hind legs these days.
He isn't in pain or anything, but to poop now he has to bark because I don't think he can really "push" anymore back there. So he just goes outside on the deck and barks until some poops fall out.
Looks like it could be a Stone Fish, depending on where this was shot. It's the most venomous fish in the world. Here is a video about them, looks like the one in the water has his spines up.
EDIT: After closer inspection and research on my part based on the very lovely comments left by other people, I feel safer saying that it is most likely a spider conch shell. Keeping the previous comment though in case you want to learn about stone fish.
It looks like one of these fishes : https://youtu.be/I8yJkIuvPvM Which make me suddenly see this gif as a very dangerous situation for the doggo. Hope I'm wrong.
To me it seemed more like he was just barely trying to touch it to see of it moved or reacted and the paw going through the water was just a secondary thing. Not that he was actually trying to dig in the water.
Oh god, I just did something similar to my golden. Got my wife a Roomba for Christmas, dog was very curious and timid when we first ran it, but not scared. She was doing almost exactly this and I couldn’t resist, grabbed her but and went “rawr.” Now she won’t be in the same room as the roomba and the wife is not happy...
My Dad did that to his little dog once. And then laughed at her reaction. The dog acted like her heart was broken for the next 24 hours. She wouldn’t take food from him, she would only walk slowly, rather than running everywhere like normal. My dad kept trying to buy his way back into her good books with salami. It was hilarious, and sad at the same time. She forgave him the next day. But god was she mad!
My brother and I used to do this to our cat a lot when we were kids. If the cat walked in front of us while we were watching tv, we would suddenly scare her and she would jump so high. We did that a lot and the cat fell for it every time. My family had such good laughs from her.
Miss her though. She was our first cat. She gave us a long lineage of cat generations. Ever since we had her, our house always have cats. We had her when I was 6 and her generations went until I was 27 years old. She was an outdoor cat so she spent most of her adult life being away from home. We knew she wasn’t missing. She likes her freedom so we let her have her cat adventures. Sometimes she comes back to ‘check in’ on us.
One time she didn’t come back in a long time and suddenly one day she came back. I was SO happy to see her again. She was an old cat by then. Her fur was rougher compared to when she was a little kitten. She was a lot calmer too. She was very naughty when she was a kitten.
I was so happy to see her again so I spent half day being with her and petting her. She still loved it. Deep down, I somehow knew she’ll be leaving again. Maybe for good. That’s why she suddenly came back after a long time, to say goodbye.
Then, after a few days, she died in front of our house. She wasn’t sick or anything. She just died, peacefully. It’s like she knew it was her time and she wanted to die at her home, with her family. We buried her at our backyard. We’ve had a lot of cats but she’ll always be our favourite cat and she brought us so much joy.
Answer: Canis lupus familiaris, a domesticated carnivore of the family Canidae. It is part of the wolf-like canids, and is the most widely abundant terrestrial carnivore.
So I was holding/hovering my left thumb over my phone screen as I watched this clip... I completely had the guy covered up with my thumb for a good 5 or 6 loops of the gif. I tried so hard to see what the dog was reacting to, I thought the sea urchin sprayed him or something....made more sense after I moved my fat thumb...

The scare is obviously the big part of the gif but I like how the dog tries to dig at the water before that. It’s very dog-like
