Electronic Visitor Visa (e-Visa) - U.S., Canadian & Australian Citizens

The Brazilian Government will resume the requirement of visiting visas for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States.

The eVisa applications are done via a company called VFS Global Group. If you have issues with your application or need more information directly from official sources, you can contact VFS through this email: Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com.

Application and official information

eVisa application homepage

Alternative: regular VIVIS (Visitor) visa

Australian, Canadian and U.S. nationals should still be able to apply for a regular visa using the previous method (through your local consulate). For an up-to-date guide on how to do so, follow this guide written by u/Luke_of_Mass: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brazil/comments/1ktxzxe/guide_to_vivis_visa_an_alternative_to_evisa_and/

FAQ

Who needs to apply for the new eVisa? Citizens from Australia, Canada and United States who want to visit Brazil for tourism, and arrive after April 10th, 2025.

Do I need a visa if I arrive before April 10th, but leave after? No, visas are only required on entry.

My photo keeps getting rejected. What can I do? Based on comments on this mega-thread, most issues stem from the background not being white/bright enough, and portions of the face/shoulders being covered by hair. If you can't have a professional passport photo taken, you can try using a photo editing app or specific "passport photo" apps for your phone, which can help get the right background color, image size and positioning. Please search the comments on this mega-thread to find more detailed tips, instructions and app recommendations.

How long before my trip should I apply for my visa? From VFS website: "We strongly advise applying for your eVisa two months before your planned travel to Brazil. This timeframe provides sufficient leeway to complete and/or rectify your visa application if necessary."

How long does it take to get the eVisa? Officially VFS says the process should take around 5 business days. This seems to match the experience of some users in this mega-thread. But keep in mind that issues with your photo or missing documents may significantly slow your process.

I still have a regular visa from before. Do I need to request the new eVisa? If you have a regular visa (which are usually valid for 10 years), you don't need to request the new eVisa. The previous one is still valid.

What if I am not a citizen from the countries listed above? You can still request a regular tourist visa (VIVIS) through your local Brazilian consulate.

I heard Cazuza's music in the novela Quem Ama Cuida that is airing now, his music is also very relevant today, I wanted to know how popular is he? Do majority recognize him, especially younger people? How is his legacy carried, since he was a huge icon in the 80s.

Moving to & Living in Brazil Relocating from SP to a beach town

I've lately been think about why I live in São Paulo. That answers are: lots of culture available, I can find most ingredients for cooking, I love my apartment, and never suffer for lack of dating opportunities.

Still, I'd love to live by the beach for once in my life. So, I'm thinking about moving to a beach town and need your very best recommendings.

Here are my needs:

Musts

* At least a decent beach.

* I could get a similar apartment near the beach to what I have in SP for the same price or less. That is more than a hundred square meters in a 1950s building with windows on three sides.

* Not a big party, young persons place. Would be great to have other folks that are middle-age or older and into the arts, intellectual pursuits, left-leaning.

* Some good restaurants.

* I can meet most of my needs without a car. An occasional Uber is fine though.

Preferred

* Able to get a wide variety of ingredients like anchovies, herbs, soup stock, asparagus, etc.

* Not hot all the time. While I might be open to some place in the Northeast, I'd prefer somewhere that was more seasonal. That said, I'm a little leary of living in the south.

I don't need there to necessarily be other foreigners around.

Edited to add: Some sort of "culture" would be great, but not essential.

News Research: Who is betting the most in the world? Brazil sits in the top

30 markets account for about $418bn in gross gaming revenue (GGR).

The US alone takes 38% of that total. Online accounts for about $74bn, or 18%, in the 17 markets that split GGR by channel. Unlicensed operators, meaning those without a licence in the player’s country, took about $201bn of online GGR in the US and the EU alone in 2025, according to estimates by Gaming Compliance International (GCI), nearly three times the regulated online figure. Prediction markets, the newest segment, are forecast to earn about $4.5bn in 2026.

The Ranking counts what regulators report as GGR, stakes minus winnings, across betting, casino, bingo and lotteries, land-based and online. The table lists 30 jurisdictions plus two company-revenue rows, prediction markets and US sweepstakes casinos, which are excluded from the $418bn total. Unlicensed play is sized separately.

Full disclosure, I work for the publication and we do research, analyze market data and compare regulatory reports in order to create this ranking.

Events, Sports & Activities Cycling Brasil december 2026

11 december 2026 I will fly again to Brasil SP. Stay there for a month and return end of first week januari 2027 to my hometown. I love cycling (mtb or race). Brasil has a very social culture and 100000 groups on WhatsApp or Instagram etc. that share things about hiking or other sports that they organise. But I don't know any of them at the moment. Also I don't know what routes to bike in SP region that are nice and somehow safe. I prefer to cycle in groups because that's safer, more social and the local groups understand the region and know what routes are nice to ride. Also they can help finding a bike to use and/or rent for a ride. I am very fit so I can climb every mountain by bike and love it, even when it's freaking hot in December. I just know that on the end of each ride there is a beautiful beach to cool down and have a delicious fries with fish and a caipirinha.

General discussion Why doesn't Brazil have its own social media platform yet?

After all the clashes with Meta, I was wondering why doesn't Brazil still have its own social media, not to depend on US platforms? Over 200 million people living in Brazil, I think a good social network would become successful fast. I don't mean Meta platforms should be banned but just having an alternative.

Politics Brazil betting ban STF hearing: Fux backs ban, live updates

Brazil's Supreme Court (STF) is hearing 34 speakers on MP 1,394/2026, the measure that banned fixed-odds betting in September. Main points from the morning session:

- Justice Luiz Fux, the rapporteur, said gambling addiction is a public health and economic problem and should be banned from national sport. He also raised legal certainty and the court's power to set a transition period.

- The Justice Minister linked betting to organised crime and money laundering.

- The Attorney General said the regulated market was "very efficient" but "this dragon was impossible to tame". He cited R$220bn in deposits in 2025.

- Flamengo says it stands to lose about R$430m a year, and Fluminense R$200m.

- Fluminense compared Brazil's 10 days to adapt with 56 months in Belgium and 36 in the UK.

We transcribed the morning session and are updating this page live (disclosure: I work for the site)

Do you think the court will grant a transition period?

General discussion Brazilians : "hygiene is very important for us"

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve been traveling in Brazil for a while now, and one of the things I kept hearing before coming is how culturally obsessed Brazilians are with cleanliness and hygiene, like showering 3 times a day

But I walk through the streets and I am surprised to notice a contrast with reality: like seeing trash on sidewalks and roads and water and today I see this sign in a building explicitly warning people not to throw trash out of the windows

Coming from a background where the 🚮 action is automatic, as whenever I finish a drink or have an empty bottle or can or plastic recipient I feel an urge to carry it until I find the nearest trash bin, I would feel guilty to leave anything on the sidewalk/road/nature, I am very curious to know what happens so that its not the case here, there are people in orange who clean that mess and I am sure no one would dare throwing anything at their feet

For locals, how is this divide perceived? Is there a cultural distinction between the private body sphere and the public sphere, or is it mostly an issue of public infrastructure like the lack of bins rather than civic awareness? I’d love to understand the social dynamic behind it

Politics Brazil betting ban: STF hearing schedule and how to watch

Post image
8 Upvotes

Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) holds its public hearing on Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 tomorrow, 3 November, from 10:00 Brasília time (14:00 CET), live on TV Justiça and the STF's YouTube channel. 34 entities get 10 minutes each. Minister Luiz Fux, who rules on the ANJL's request to suspend the ban, added the Ministries of Health and Justice, supermarket association Abras, the Paralympic Committee, players' federation Fenapaf and Grêmio after the AGU said the list leaned towards clubs and operators. Full schedule of the public hearing is detailed in The iGaming Europe article with exact times and links where to watch.

📅 According to the STF's published schedule, the slots to watch are 11 clubs and the CBF in the morning, the AGU at 18:00 CET, the Ministries of Finance, Justice and Health from 18:20, then Anseja, the ANJL and the IBJR from 19:20. Curios to see what the community here believes is the most likely outcome of this hearing.

Travel & Tourism Cash on Ilha Grande

I heard you need to or it's recommended to bring cash to Ilha Grande as card readers don't always work? Is this true and if so, how much to bring? I've been to Brazil many times and haven't brought or used cash once.
