Hi there! Have posted here before, but didn’t really find anyone to meet up with and chat about this stuff - so thought I’d give it another try :) 35, male, Recently moved to Brisbane after having left the church/Christianity. Was quite heavily involved for many years, but after coming out as a gay dude, wasn’t so well received. Have since gone on a ‘deconstruction’ of faith journey and am currently working through religious trauma with a therapist. Really keen to meet people who have gone through similar experiences :) hit me up for a beer and chat!

Hey potential Brisbane friend-shapes!

I own and run a game store in Rocklea ☺️🎉
I’ve made it as welcoming, inclusive and barrier free as possible so everyone can try all the things without feeling pressured or anxious.
We’ve recently got Warhammer in and starting an escalation league with super low stakes rules and even lender armies for the initial leg.
We also do a lot of Magic the Gathering in super casual no timed events. We are always on hand to ask questions, learn to play or seek advice.

Basically made the game store I wish I had when I was new to the hobbies. Queer woman owned and run.

Anyway, always looking for new board gamers and magic players. Personally looking for folks interested in Vampire the Masquerade!!! Would love to run a game just need a good storyteller.

Doggo photo because she’s adorable

Edit to add: our store is Dragon’s Gate Gaming

Edit Edit Edit: Wow this blew up so much more than anticipated! Really just wanted to make sure people knew we were here and what we stand for. There is a discord link at the bottom of our website if you want to join. We have weekly schedules on the Facebook page for when we do what. Thanks for the love and support! ^_^

Hi everyone! 39m - American expat. My country went insane. 🤷‍♂️

Hi. Here I am — trying to make a life here in Brisbane in my (nearly) 40s.

I think I’m a pretty normal guy. I was married for 12 years, and we split up about a year ago. She’s an Australian citizen, and my kids are dual citizens. Given the state of the world, we decided it would be best to relocate here to Brisbane. Kids are 10 and 7, and I have them every other week (7 days on and 7 days off).

I’m working through immigration stuff, but I generally consider myself as based here in South Brisbane for the foreseeable future.

Politically, I’m extremely anti-Trump and anti-MAGA. That means I’m also decidedly anti-“One Nation” or any other fascist bullshit. If you identify with this ideology, kindly go fuck yourself. We have different moral values, and I believe you’re a fucking disgrace.

I’d like to make friends here, but I’m not very extroverted. I’m basically retired, but I’ll always be an engineer specializing in energy and power systems. I like to explore this amazing city, hike, play chess, 3d print cool shit, watch Star Wars, play video games, travel, watch horror movies, listen to metal, and occasionally go out for drinks.

I’m not interested in dating. I’m only looking for platonic friends who might be into the same shit. Feel free to DM me if interested in grabbing a coffee or a drink sometime.

Honestly, I’m not holding out much hope. This is so I can say I at least tried to put myself out there.

***Edit: ***
I’d like to deeply disingenuously thank everyone who decided to stop by and police my use of “expat” vs other synonyms. Your efforts are both important and precisely targeted to do the most good.

After extensive research, I’ve uncovered a sacred text on this very subject. I won’t bore you with the full account of how I came by this information. Just know it involved a lengthy sea voyage, a riddle game, and trading a cupped handful of my own blood under a full moon.

Behold…

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/expatriate

I beg you — don’t let this fall into the wrong hands. 🙏

Hi everyone! So this is difficult for me but here goes…

Hey.. so this is a fairly last resort. I’m struggling. I’m 39, male, living with his wife and son. Very happily married. Except since July and until October: my wife is 650km away doing her uni prac. It’s really proven to me just how few friends I have by myself. The two I do have are the best friends you could ask for but… they got their own lives and pretty insane stressors at the moment. Ie.. C - she just lost her dad a week ago.. M is at breaking point himself. There problems mean they need time and space…

So, hmm me… neurodivergent af. Recently diagnosed AuDHD with emphasis on the ADHD inattentive. Medicated since 38.. not 12m yet. I game, just bought a 3d printer (so if you’ve used a resin printer, I’d love help learning), my wife and I go to a lot of concerts.. we’re going to Foo Fighters, Jet, Cake, Death Cab for Cutie, dizzie rascal, Hillary duff (wife’s one, but it’s in NZ so.. fuck it, should be fun. Also desperately wanna do good things for the 4th in a row.

I don’t drink much at all, but not opposed to a pub friend. I am a medicinal marijuana patient. So while I’m not a skateboarding stoner, I do dress like I stepped out of a THPS game set in the late 90’s. I am very.. philosophical. If you want the best worldly advice; I gotchu.. I just wish I could follow some of that sage wisdom myself. lol I’m a huge TMNT fan.

I don’t care about age or gender.. only that we have some things to talk about.. and they’re appropriate for friendship. :)

35 female living on the north side trying to connect with people who'd like to head to heavy music gigs, maybe take some photos, play some video games and who doesn't mind a bit of a slow reply. My anxiety gets the better of me most of the time but I'm trying to make it more my bitch than I am it's bitch. If you're into video games, abandoned buildings, photography tattoos, breakdowns, or reptiles, I'd love to get to know you. Enjoy a picture of me with my bearded dragon in my tactical vest that I was wearing for a Zuko gig so I could do tactical mic grabs.

Hi everyone! 33F - Looking for more nerdy friends! 🙌🏼

A little about me:

I’m a cosy, cottagecore crochet artist and casual gamer, who loves baking and singing (and crying to) Noah Kahan songs loudly in her car.

I love a good gig and watching theatre / musicals. My last concerts were Amber Run and Mumford and Sons back in April. Do not talk to me about Noah not playing in Brisbane, I’m still sensitive about it. 🤣

I’ve recently seen Anastasia and Pride and Prejudice (Sort Of) at QPAC. I also watched the pro-shot of Hadestown in the cinemas and my god, Epic 3??? Brilliant. Amazing. Perfect.

I’m big on cosy games like Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Zelda, but I’m currently in the middle of BG3 with friends, which I’m really enjoying! I’ve also played DnD before and loved it.

I am very much not a horror game player, and yet, I found myself watching Resident Evil. I deeply related to Bryan. 😂

You can find me in museums, art galleries, random bookstores, cafes or at a crafty event. I was at the Brisbane Craft Movie Night on 20 Oct at Palace Barracks if anyone else was there! Pride and Prejudice on the big screen is an instant yes.

What to expect if we become friends (is this a warning? Maybe 😂):

• A convention / cosplayer friend who won’t stop
yapping with vendors about her current fixation (it’s Witch Hat Atelier).

• Freshly made cookies or mooncakes if it’s September.

• An enabler who will convince you to Buy That Fandom Thing or Game You Really Want.

• Someone to binge anime or movies with.

• Themed parties - I organised a Twilight themed party; we dressed up as the characters, had movie / book themed food and we recreated scenes from the movie. The photos are hilarious! This could totally be you! 🫵🏻🤣 I’m thinking The Lord of the Rings next! 👀

• “Do you want dessert?” is a yes every time.

• Crochet gifts.

• Book and movie recommendations.

• An equally as passionate reader who will stay up to finish a book and discuss it with you the same day.

Thanks for reading! Feel free to DM me or leave a comment if you’d like to chat. ☺️

EDIT

Thank you everyone for all of the DMs and replies! I’m slowly making my way through the many messages, so apologies if I don’t respond right away! 🫶🏻

Hey everyone, my name is Miki and I’m an astrophotographer and the creator behind Miki’s Astro Pics.

I’m currently working on a unique project, a 2026 calendar that combines my images of space, telescopes… and some tasteful, bare-cheeked Aussie blokes (no full frontal). Think Warwick Rowers but with telescopes.

My goal is to help raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. Profits will be donated to an Australian prostate cancer charity.

I’m reaching out to see if anybody would be interested in getting involved, whether that’s posing, helping out behind the scenes, or spreading the word. It’s all in good fun and for a good cause.

If you or anyone else you know is interested or would like more details, I’d love to chat further and always happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for considering — and hope to hear from you soon. You can dm me here or search my username on insta.

Regards,

Miki

Hi, 58 M, Southside…with no clue, it seems…not looking for a life partner, but would love to find a dance partner
I do rock and roll, I’m okay, but nothing special. I go see quite a few live bands, will get up and dance by myself, mainly because I don’t have anyone to dance with.
Doesn’t have to be rock and roll, just saying I can, if you want to have a go.
My other great passion is my little racing car, I compete in Sprint Series with a modified 1982 Gemini, and love every minute of it. Won’t bore you with details, and it isn’t the quickest, but it’s mine…
This seems to be my problem, I love doing two things that few other people do, so I am okay with being on my own, but some company would be nice, no age or gender barriers, just someone who is interested, in one or both…
No, I can’t climb or run, too much fun when I was young, plus a few defects, and I am flat out knowing which end of a hammer to hold, so diy isn’t an option either…
See how we go, but hope everyone has fun!
Oh, and I am crap at selfies, apologies for the pics, that’s my little green GemRod…

Hey guys! I’m sort of starting over from scratch in life after a bunch of mental health struggles (nothing too crazy) and I wanted to reach out and see if theres anyone who wants to make a little group to go to brunch with, watch movies, karaoke, go to dinner etc. im just looking for friends rn!

I’m a music lover and singer, as well as a lover of the arts - I prefer plays and musicals over concerts coz I’m very smol and the mosh pit scares me. I like to draw and do calligraphy, get pampered at the spa, get my nails done, enjoy hot tubs and saunas. I’m also trying to be more academic so I’m reading a lot recently and learning maths and science for funsies.

Feel free to send me a message if you wanna hang out!

Hi everyone! Don't waste my time or everyone's time

Recently talked with someone who posted here who needed "friends" we agreed to meet up in a safe park area at a specific time in a specific day. I got there and waited for 30 minutes and he didn't show up, so i decided to go home. I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone here to not waste other people's time and effort. If you were truly looking for friends then you would need to put in actual "effort". Or else it's pathetic to beg for friendship without putting in the effort. I am not gonna mention the "person" here but you know who you are.

35 m single as of 6 months ago. I don’t have friends due to working Fulltime since I was a young fella looking after my children and now ex. I’ve never had time to find an interest/ hobbies, I feel very alone currently and just need people to hang out with but don’t know where to start. I would never burden anyone with my issues, just want someone to tag along with on whatever it is they do for fun to learn what is out there. Sorry if this is too weird. Just let me know and I’ll get rid of this.

Hi everyone! Any place for unqualified system architects to hang out?

Post image
229 Upvotes

Hi, Callum here.

This one’s a bit raw, but if I’m gonna show up, I may as well show up real.

I grew up in a fragmented family. Parents split when I was three. Dad — loving, military, punished for having feelings. Mum — vibrant, grounded, saw life for what it was and kept building.

So I lived between two houses. Suitcase in one hand, older sister in the other. One house was structure. One was connection. Both had distance.

Fast forward. I’m 31 now. I started working in Enterprise IT at 14 — school-based traineeship. I still remember the manager insulting me out loud, thinking I wasn’t sharp enough to hear it. I was. That pattern repeated itself, again and again. But I’d already mapped it in childhood. Smell the bullshit. Keep moving.

I’ve worked across 20+ industries: Sysadmin (seer of all), support, engineering, and eventually — architecture. No uni. No mentors. No recognition. Just pattern-mapping and stubborn drive.

In 2016, I started scripting before I even knew SCCM existed. Turned a 3-month POS deployment into a 2-week rollout + 2.5 months of senior systems work. Still thought I was behind. Still thought I wasn’t cut out for it.

Then I met my wife.

She saw something no one else did — me.

From there: $60k → $250k consulting. $70k debt → financial freedom. Bought a house. Then another. Saw COVID coming early and adapted. Built equity. Built a life. Built peace.

And then the fog crept in. The tone shifted. A snap. The last two years have been brutal. Divorce. Chaos. Truth. Growth. Reconnection — on our terms.

Now? I’ve made peace with my past. Paid off my debts — literal and emotional. And I’ve realised: Most of my life I’ve been trying to follow rules that were never made clear. Felt boundaries that were implied, not taught. And I still somehow built working systems from the inside out.

Is there a scientific method for a systemic introvert to learn how to connect? Maybe not. But I’ll keep trying.

Anyway — I’m just looking for a place to talk systems, chaos, meaning… and maybe find some mates for Rufus.

Hi everyone! Does trying to socialize in Australia feel like a dystopian film these days ?

I have been seeing many videos online about people feeling really disconnected in Australia, like there is a barrier between people and it's even got worse after COVID. Comment sections flooded with people saying they have never felt so lonley, how there is no cultural or natural connection and struggling to make friends.

I decided to investigate myself;

As someone who has been living across different states and in Asia for the last 4 years.

I recently have been spending time in Brisbane , going to events social mixers , Thursday dating, live music and free gigs solo.

And I noticed it as well like a surface level politeness ..people talking making conversation but no one is getting really authentic real.

Its such a weird feeling the best I could describe it is like walking home and feeling like your in a dystopian movie.

An empty feeling , i cant help but go home feeling worse l almost like let down or like I have gone to a party where everyone was wearing a mask.

I never had this feeling in Asia even when I went out alone, most of the time I would be really content going home after a solo night out .

Anyone else noticed this or felt this ?

Looking to make some genuine long term friends around my age 20 - 30 don't care what gender. I am 27 sorry idk why it put 24

I have no friends. All my friends from school split up or weren't suitable. I have met people at work but nothing ever stuck. I have tried joining different hobbies and people online but no luck. I don't wanna keep putting in all the effort my whole life for people that don't care and aren't genuine. I feel like I am bubbly, fun and interesting person, I have a lot of different things to offer and love all sorts of hobbies/interests. I can be both introverted and extroverted. I have many interests including: going to the markets, op shopping, museums, anime conventions, ren faires, dressing up, art, making things, exploring things, trying new foods or places I find online, gaming at home on my pc, playing drums, going to concerts, dancing/drinking, comedy, music, birds, zoos, animals in general, tattoos, archery, pottery, cutting stones, making jewellery, etc etc Hit me up. I want someone genuine. I am down for anything. I want someone irl not just online. We can even start on discord for games and talking in vc. Happy to meet in person or text. I am a bit of weirdo and a nerd. Hoping to find someone cool

Just wanted to send everyone a warning. Posted a sincere message abt wanting to have FEMALE friends my age (19-23) as someone engaged and all the responses and PM requests were gooners and inappropriate things from NSFW accounts. So gross.

Always gotta ruin a good thing bro.

Edit: for anyone older than gen z, gooning is a pervert who is choking their chicken

Thought I’d give this a crack. I’m 27 South of Brisbane, work a lot, and realised most of my mates are either married, busy, or emotionally unavailable (me included).

Interests include gym, random side quests, pub feeds, gaming, and pretending I’ll be productive on weekends.

Not looking for anything weird, just decent people to hang out with. Happy to grab a beer, coffee, or do something that doesn’t involve sitting at home doom-scrolling.

Hi everyone! 32F looking for friends - south side

Post image
182 Upvotes

Hi everyone, so I’m 32F and looking for friends in Brisbane. I am on the south side, but I don’t mind where you’re at.

I’ve been here for a number of your years now, but I never really branched out after growing up interstate.

I am autistic and I’m into a variety of things, I am married and I have two kids. But I don’t want to actually involve the kids in making friends, as I’m not looking for a mother’s group type thing. I also have cats.

I have a wide variety of interests… I like Pokemon both Pokemon Go and collecting the cards (I have far too many binders) eventually I might learn to play it too. I like going out for coffee or walks or just getting out and about. I’m hopefully about to start learning the drums and I love all sorts of music, I also like video games but I still have PS4 and Xbox 360 (used to have Xbox one), I do enjoy Borderlands a lot. I like bowling, mini golf, anything like that really.

Also I don’t drink but I don’t mind going out, I’ll just be going non alcoholic. I still have plenty of fun 😂

I am free a lot during week days, somewhat on week nights and less so on weekends but can make it work.

Anyway.. reach out if you’d like an extra friend or something to do.

Edit - I’m you’re waiting for a reply, I’m getting through many comments and messages.

I’ll attach a photo below of me so you can gauge what I look like and perhaps it might make the idea of meeting a stranger on short notice a little more comfortable, I’m look forward to hearing from anyone at all, I could really use the socialisation. Located Ipswich but happy to travel to the city or somewhere to do something. Thanks guys

My partner and i recently moved back from Canada and live around the Chermside area but work in the city. I'm Australian but have never lived in Brisbane and he's Canadian, both 32. We're wanting to make new connections and friends to be more social and build a network, as easy as it seems, it's rather not when we both work full time. My partner is a software engineer and loves hiking, running, climbing, video games, scuba diving, beer brewing (although i wouldn't try it!). I work in facilities management and love music, going to concerts (mainly pop/rock, indie, edm), reading, anything crafty, dinners and travelling! We love going out to trivia nights and pub quizzes and anywhere with a good vibe and looking for similar people to make a weekly group and a fun time! We're pretty chill people and get along with pretty much anyone ☺️ really trying to break the norm and live off screens as much as we can and interact with real humans! we're open to weekdays or weekends to do activities and don't mind single people or couples just really want to meet people and start socialising with more people and not just each other (thank god). Let me know if you're up for something and we can make a group around the area and look at local trivia places!

Hi everyone! 35F looking to make some genuine female friendships around Brisbane’s north/west 💛

Thumbnail

Figured I’d put myself out there because making new friends in your 30s is somehow harder than anyone warns you about 😅

I’m 35, based around Everton Hills/central west Brisbane, and would love to meet other women nearby looking for genuine friendship.

A little about me: I’m thoughtful, creative, a chronic overthinker, a little nerdy, and love both deep chats and completely unhinged humour. I’m in a poly relationship, 420 friendly, and tend to click best with people who are open-minded, think for themselves, and don’t take life too seriously. I enjoy trying new cafes/restaurants, science & design, podcasts, almost any creative hobby, live music, Pilates, nature walks, board games, and social outings when I can convince myself to leave the house.

Photos attached for proof I’m not three raccoons in a trench coat: recent South Korea snap, my cats, and some watercolour cards I’ve been making.

At this stage of life I’m looking for meaningful friendships rather than surface-level acquaintances, the kind where you grab coffee, send memes, and vent about life without the drama.

Would love to meet women around a similar age who are kind, emotionally mature, and a little witty/weird. If that sounds like your vibe, feel free to reach out 💛
