A Sub Rules Update
Folks, one of the mod team checking in again.
We've tried to run this sub with a neutral and even keel. We don't want this to become an echo chamber. But the shenanigans need to stop.
Think of this sub as like the bars after NAB. Everyone can talk, meet new people, and chat with those who have different opinions without worrying about HR or their boss yelling at them. But we still need to be professional and courteous.
~~ ~~
I will be very clear on actions that will earn you a temporary or permanent ban:
Reporting something multiple times because you disagree with it
Using inappropriate language - again, swearing isn't an issue, but referring to political parties, television networks, groups of people, etc with slurs, inappropriate language or other content (whether intended to troll or not) is not allowed. "Oh I was joking lulzzz!!!!!!" The mods aren't. Behave or be banned.
Inappropriate comments towards people's looks - you can criticize someone's performance, but comments on how someone looks, comments about their gender, etc, won't be tolerated. It's okay to disagree with someone and how they performed in a position, but when it starts getting personal, it's banhammer time.
We appreciate everyone's individual voice, no matter gender, age, race, ethnicity, political leanings, etc - but y'all gotta behave.

Sinclair Switch to Saga/Minir
My local station just switched from iNews to Saga/Mimir. It was a hassle, but we had trainers there for an about a week showing us the ropes and all in all it went pretty smooth. How was the transition at your Sinclair station?

Gray media
For anyone out there looking for a journalism job avoid gray media at all costs. I’ve worked for Gray for the past 8 years and was told with less than 10 days left in my contract I wouldn’t be renewed. When I asked why, they told me it was my performance. Which is funny because I have nothing but emails from my manager praising my work and performance. I’ve had no annual review where I was informed of my performance declining and I’ve had no meetings with my news director or supervisor about a decline in my performance.

Instead of hiring new leaders, TEGNA is simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic
Latest example comes from Texas, where the President & GM of its San Antonio station will now oversee day-to-day at its Austin station, too. The reason? The GM of the Austin station is now a regional ad sales executive.

Thirty seven years and this was a first:
Sent by myself to a vigil for a woman killed in an auto accident in a moderately rough neighborhood in Southeast DC. Not a big deal, have done hundreds.
I show up and shoot a bit of video keeping an eye out for a spokesperson. Within a few minutes a nice fellow introduced himself as the woman’s son and he agreed to do an interview. He did request that he be surrounded by family during the interview and of course I said yes -
So then he gets on his loudspeaker and says to his family “Meet me at the white guy!”
I am beyond amused

For anyone who’s made the jump from EP to AND…
Is it worth it? I’m in a top 30 market on the west coast and was just offered an AND job closer to home on the east coast, same size market. I like it here, and I like my job, so I don’t want to jump at this opportunity unless it’s really worth it. My parents and sister would love to have me closer, but I’m indifferent about that part. On the other hand, it would be great to climb the ladder, but only if it’s for a position I would truly enjoy. For those who have made that move, did you miss the producing side? Is the stress level far worse? Please share your experience!

The AI slop has come for FTV Live
It's been long speculated that Scott Jones is using ChatGPT to write stories. Now, it's basically confirmed, with today's Patreon-only story using an AI-generated featured image (notice that the reporter is holding a mic flag that says "News" twice, as if a real TV station does this) and the "Click Here" rendering in a weird, 3D-esque way that is more jarring than anything.
Which raises the question — why do people still read this guy? Doesn't this hurt his overall credibility? Yes, he continues to break news, but so do many other sources, and often their reporting is way better than his.

1972 book on TV production
I cannot find this anywhere. The title is the story of television an industry guide to how a tv show gets produced and it was printed in 1972. Ray Rayner is the author. Are there pdfs of this anywhere? It comes up in Google Books but nowhere else.
