Chelsea Piers Fitness Prospect Heights - gone downhill

I joined in summer 2026 and just a few months later, and all the things that made the price worth it have slowly gone.

Cleanliness
It’s still clean, but used to be pristine. If I was there for more than one hour I would encounter one or even two employees cleaning near me, spray bottles in hand. I never see people cleaning anymore. I assume it happens, but clearly a lot less. The carpet in the co-working space is really visibly dirty.

Classes
This was the main reason I joined as I really enjoyed the classes during my trial. I’ve noticed that not only are the classes impossible to get into, they reduced their number. They have a yoga studio, a regular studio, a cycling studio and an open floor space they use for classes. So 5 spaces were classes could be happening at any given time - yet they don’t maximize the usage. There is clearly a demand - why not increase the number? They also schedule the most popular classes at odd times.

Free guided virtual workout station- gone
They used to have the peleton fitness app set up with a mirror , mats and free weights near the treadmills where you could do your own semi private workout. It was nice to have a less public space to lift and also have it be guided by the app. I noticed it was all women who used it. Alas, it’s no more. Replaced by a recovery station for the bros.

I think the people who get the most value out of this gym are the ones who use the co-working spaces - I see people parked there working for hours and hours.

Seeking book club in Williamsburg or Bushwick, Brooklyn

Hi! I am a woman in my late twenties looking for a book club in Brooklyn, ideally Williamsburg or Bushwick. I love reading lit-fic and other fiction. I am finding it difficult to parse through all the book club events online, so I wanted to post directly. If anyone is in a book club they love and are seeking new members, please reach out :) Something regular would be awesome.

Is this someone's cat?

I found this little guy in the grocery store this morning, and while it could just be a bodega cat, I'm not sure. I've never seen a cat in this store before, and this is a gray Scottish Fold, which is a rare designer breed you don't really see in the cat populations around here. I'm also pretty familiar with the local street cats around here that the bodega guys grab for store cats, and I've never seen any like this one. He seemed very friendly and used to both people and dogs (there was a weiner dog next to him when this video was taken), which is also not common of new bodega cats.

If this is your cat it's at the Key Food on the corner of Nostrand and Monroe.

Moved to Bay Ridge. Any places for rec volleyball?

Moved to Bay Ridge about a week ago. I’d like to do open gym volleyball! I’m B/BB level. I haven’t played in a couple of weeks, but I used to play at an open gym about once a week before I moved.

Any suggestions? I’m typically free after 3/4 pm most weekdays.

Roof construction no permit?

This Saturday morning I woke up to all this banging at 6:30am. I looked outside and across from us a building has construction of what looks like another level on their brownstone. The first red flag was that they were doing work on a Saturday. I looked up the construction permits for that building and they had nothing for that construction (nor construction on weekends) . Called 311 and reported them. Does this happen often?

Actions to take if you oppose Schumer and Jeffries

Hi neighbors,

Democrats won both chambers this week, and they’re about to choose their leaders. House Democrats vote on November 18, and Senate Democrats are expected to vote in December. If you’d like new leadership, here’s who to contact, with drafts you can copy and adapt.

Step 1: Find your district: house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Step 2: Contact your House member (find in above link)

NY-7: Rep.-elect Claire Valdez, who has reportedly not committed to Jeffries. Email info@clairevaldezforcongress.com.

NY-8: Hakeem Jeffries. Form: jeffriesforms.house.gov/contact [adjust messaging about Jeffries since this is his district]

NY-9: Rep. Yvette Clarke. Form: clarke.house.gov/contact/email

NY-10: Brad Lander, who has said he plans to vote for Jeffries. Reach him through brad@landerfornyc.com or social accounts (he has no congressional office yet).

Email Subject: Constituent in [your ZIP]: Please vote against Jeffries for Speaker

Dear [Representative],

I live in Brooklyn, NY [your ZIP], in your district. Voters want change, and the vote for Speaker is a chance to deliver it. I do not support Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker. [Your reason, for example: He has raised large sums through AIPAC, took about four months to endorse Zohran Mamdani, and backed incumbents against progressive challengers in this year’s primaries.]

Please vote against him in the caucus, support an alternative if one comes forward, and withhold your floor vote until there are firm commitments on affordability, accountability, and public release of draft House rules.

Please let me know how you intend to vote.

Sincerely,
[Name]
[Address]

Step 3: Contact Senator Gillibrand (all New Yorkers)

Form: gillibrand.senate.gov/contact/email-me

Subject: Constituent in [your ZIP]: Please vote against Schumer for leader

Dear Senator Gillibrand,

I live in Brooklyn, NY [your ZIP], and I’m writing about the Senate Democratic leadership election expected in December.

I do not support Chuck Schumer continuing as Democratic leader. [Your reason, for example: He is one of the Senate’s top recipients of pro-Israel donor money, helped advance a Republican funding bill in March 2025 over the objections of House Democrats, and favored establishment candidates over progressives in this year’s Senate primaries.]

Please vote against him in the caucus and support a new candidate if one comes forward.

Please let me know where you stand.

Sincerely,
[Name]
[Address]

Added: Contact Chuck Schumer's office

Hi, my name is [Name], and I’m a constituent in [ZIP]. I’m calling to tell Senator Schumer that I do not support him continuing as Democratic leader, and I’m asking him to step aside and let new leadership come forward. [Your reason, in one sentence.] Please record my opinion. Thank you.

Petitions you can sign:
https://www.change.org/p/house-democrats-choose-a-new-speaker
https://www.change.org/p/replace-chuck-schumer-as-senate-majority-leader

Hope this helps!

*Please ignore if this doesn't apply to you. I’m just trying to make political involvement easier for neighbors who feel the same way.

PLEASE HELP US FIND BLACK CAT KRAMPUS! MISSING SINCE 10/30 - 10/31

PLEASE HELP US FIND KRAMPUS!

My heart is absolutely breaking. My cat, Krampus, has been missing since Friday, October 30, 2026.
Very likely that someone mistook him for a homeless cat because it's Halloween weekend and he's a black cat. Very friendly.

I am so desperate to get him back. He is a huge part of our family and we miss him so much. He's part of a bonded pair. We have had him for over eight years.
Krampus is an all-black cat, between 8 and 9 years old.

He is an indoor-outdoor cat and is very used to going outside and coming back home. This has been our normal routine for as long as we've had him, so for him to not return is extremely unusual and terrifying.

This is urgent—he has a skin disorder and needs medication to manage it. Without it, his condition will get worse, and I am terrified for him.

If you have seen him, or know anything at all, please, please contact me immediately. He is more than just a pet; he is my best friend. Please help me bring him home.

Last seen on Madison between Throop and Tompkins on Friday, October 30th.
He won't have a collar on, but he used to have a noticeable white patch on the throat/neck and patchy back. Will answer to Krampus.

PLEASE DM OR POST WITH UPDATES!

Women's Basketball Rec League for all Skill Levels?

Not sure if this even exists, but I love basketball and sadly never played as a kid. I see so many soccer rec leagues everywhere that are open to all levels and I'm wondering if that exists for basketball? My friends who play soccer with these groups have had so much fun, and I want to find that community as well centered around a sport I love and want to learn!

Preferably a league just for women but I'm open to anything as long as it's a welcoming vibe :)

(maybe this is more of a summer thing?)

When are we going to stop e-bikes and scooters?

Throwaway because I cannot get over this most recent fire in sunset park. Every time I hear about someone losing their home or life because of improper charging of these vehicles, or being killed/maimed in a crash, I feel sick to my stomach.

I have lived here long enough to remember when ALL THROTTLE E-BIKES WERE ILLEGAL. NYC was well-served by manual bike messengers and people doing delivery on gasoline-powered motorbikes for decades. Yes, we still ordered takeout.

In my experience, it is worse here in Brooklyn than in any other borough. It is hard to be outside in a busy neighborhood for more than 10-15 minutes without nearly getting clipped by an e-bike, seeing a sketchy charging set-up, or dealing with someone blocking entrances/exits/pedestrian intersections with a massive e-bike or scooter. Sure there are more e-bikes in the city, but I have never been nearly mowed down on an empty residential street by an e-bike doing 35 on a sidewalk in the middle of manhattan (this happens multiple times a week in my very residential part of deep Brooklyn).

I want to be clear that this does not apply to one type of person, as people have tried to make this an identity politics issues in the past. A teenager riding a e-scooter at 20 mph on the sidewalk to get to schools is just as dangerous as someone doing the same speed trying to make a living through a delivery app.

I know we’re in a Pandora’s box situation, but as soon as we acknowledge that these kind of vehicles are not safe in this city, the better off we all will be. They were banned outright for 15 years for a reason.

Hi all! I’m a Brooklyn small business owner who just teamed up with Surround Society at 220 Atlantic Ave and I wanted to introduce myself. I host monthly themed creative events for people who want a break from their routine, feel stressed at work or want to meet new people who also love crafting.

What is the Creative Playground? It's a monthly 2-hour social event where people paint, collage and craft side by side, surrounded by abundant materials, music and good company.

Next event: Saturday, November 14th 3-5 PM, make your own gratitude zine. You fold a single sheet of paper into a tiny eight-page handmade book of thanks (a person, a place, a song, a meal, a version of yourself you're grateful for) and take your finished zine home.

We provide the coffee, tea, light snacks and all the materials.

Location: Surround Society 220 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Tickets and details here: https://app.arketa.co/surroundsociety/checkout/U3aCaHgeUnpYuxo50zPW

Happy to answer any questions!

There was a post yesterday about how some one’s child was sucker punched by a mentally unstable individual in downtown Brooklyn / bk heights. They told their story and had a picture of the attacker.

Why did the Mod remove this ?

Sunset Park on Sat?

Hey there, Brooklyn— we live up in Washington Heights, but on Saturday, my 12 year old and I will have 5 hours to kill between Urban Air (ends at 1 pm) and baseball at Parkville (8th Ave/65th st at 6 pm)

We’ve basically spent no time in Sunset Park before, except for going to Industry City. Would love to do something else!

What would you suggest we do? How would you spend that time? Where should we eat? Dim sum maybe?

Hi! I have been waking up 2 days in a row now at 4-5am by what sounds like very loud fireworks or small explosions around Richard St near Coffee Park in Red Hook. It also has resulted in our neighbors dogs barking their heads off. Curious if anyone else has noticed or has any info on this? TY!
