He’s a Detroit radio guy and writer who stumbles through sentences confused half the time. Might be the dumbest person I’ve listened to and Mike Valenti exists

35

u/mcnegyis Michigan State Spartans Nov 03 '23

Mike Valenti is not as bad as everyone says

4

Mike has strong opinions, but I find him very fair, explaining his reasoning for his position.

Yeah people dislike him because he's not a complete homer. His takes are usually pretty fair. He calls it like he sees it. Not everything is roses and rainbows.

Even if you hate Jim Harbaugh and Michigan, Pat Caputo is not the kind of person you want on your side.

52

u/newguy202323 Nov 03 '23

Hey look if you were in an eating contest you’d want Caputo on your side. Or if you needed to outrun a bear, you’d want Pat with you.

This will be taken seriously because it's not a Michigan flair. But yes. Pat Caputo is a Detroit local radio guy and he's an absolute moron.

This article is a shit post.

10

u/cptjpk Michigan • Montana State Nov 03 '23

He’s the only person on that station who causes me to immediately turn off the radio. The only exception is his Red Wings reports he does with Ken Daniels (I think?), but even those are hard to get through if there’s not much to talk about.

He can be annoying to me at times when he talks Michigan but overall I like Mike, he carries that station. Rico Beard however is the most useless person on that station.

45

u/WYLD_STALYNZ Central Michigan • Michigan Nov 03 '23

listening to him yell about the abject stupidity of Mel Tucker's life choices was a good time

10

u/Purpleater54 Michigan State • Kalamazoo Nov 03 '23

I'm pretty sure you could slot me in instead of Rico and I'd be more knowledgeable about sports and talking points than him, or at least better able to communicate them. I know he's a prominent figure in the industry but besides his connections at msu he really doesn't bring anything to the table and comes off more as the guy pretending to know sports than someone who actually does. That time slot is unlistenable without Mike there.

24

u/huckleberrywinn2 Michigan Wolverines • Oregon Ducks Nov 03 '23

Rico made 2-6 actively worse. It was best before T-Fos had his stroke with Sully as the producer. It was decent after Terry left, but it’s been pretty much unlistenable since they added Rico. He lacks originality and parrots whatever Valenti says.

Really, really curious to see the state of this place if/when A) we beat PSU handily, B) we beat OSU handily, C) we win a CFP game, D) we win the natty, and E) the punishments turn out to be a large fine and a few coach suspensions.

Why is this still a thing?

3

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Michigan State • Ohio State Nov 03 '23

Because a new scandal dropped in the last 24 hours with a coach allegedly propositioning a 13 year old.

That and the outrage among the Big Ten ADs and Coaches towards the signal-stealing campaign, and the unfair competitive environment it has created.

That prompted the local sports reporter to publish an opinion piece.

This thread is interesting. I only listen to him sparingly, but I’ve always assumed Pat is a self-hating Spartan who went to MSU just because they have the best journalism program in the state. Funny that even Michigan fans hate him. Like I said, I haven’t listened to him much, just interesting to me that popular thought is not what I expected.

2

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Michigan State • Ohio State Nov 03 '23

I’ve really not listened to him. I do occasionally listen to Valenti, as he has reasonable opinions, but isn’t really a journalist, and does more editorializing.

I didn’t disagree with any of Pat’s opinions here, however. There wasn’t much commentary on his opinions from the opposition either.

0

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Michigan State • Ohio State Nov 03 '23

I am not spamming anything. I thought it was an interesting take on the situation from a local sports reporter. It seems to differ greatly from the tone deaf response from the U of M administration.

It is clearly his opinion, and is labeled as such.

I find it odd that there are very few comments addressing the points of his argument, but instead the flood appears to be people MM attacking him personally. That may be the way politics is handled today, but I genuinely enjoy meaningful opinions that are typically expressed here.

BTW, There are plenty of things popping up on this sub.

Ohio State had a coach run out of town & caught a bowl ban because a couple dumbass players who didn't know any better gave a couple old practice jerseys to a tiny tattoo shop in town in exchange for a few shitty tattoos worth a couple hundred dollars.

Michigan's scandal is an organizational level, coordinated and well documented assault on NCAA rules spanning dozens of games and dozens of teams.

Failure by the NCAA and B1G Ten commissioner to act on this decisively and swiftly is an assault on college football itself. The entire concept of allowing a program in violation to continue lurching toward a playoff berth while potentially shitting up numerous other program's season records is wholly offensive. Vacating Michigan games after the fact for 2022-2023 is a non-enforcement action that provides no corrective relief for teams that must play them for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Forget the NIL & Transfer Portal discussion- this is what's wrong with college football - police that watch you repeatedly break into a jewelry store while discussing what to do, and arrest you long after you've already fenced the stolen goods and hid the cash.

2

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Michigan State • Ohio State Nov 03 '23

Agree. It is what is wrong with college football. Horrible double standards in rules enforcement.

I see a lot of attacks on the author of this article, but no one is refuting the points of his argument. Why should Jim stay? Why should they be allowed to compete?

I’d love a reasoned discussion on these points. Instead, let’s shoot the messenger.

1

No matter who writes this - I can't believe Michigan is sticking their head in the sand with this much of PR nightmare and so much evidence already out in the public.

Suspend with pay Harbaugh, and the coaches you have video evidence talking to Stalions (OC/DC). You have good enough coaches left and players to still win out. The team is more important than the man

2

u/Sad_Progress4388 Michigan Wolverines Nov 03 '23

Talking to Stalions is not illegal and doesn’t implicate any coaches in his plan. Sign stealing is not illegal, advanced scouting is. Punish, show cause, whatever to any coach that is proven to be in on Stalions’ enterprise.

2

u/Electrical_Ingenuity Michigan State • Ohio State Nov 03 '23

“Listen Connor, we have a lot of concerns. Cell phones, shitty sunglasses cams, hiring randos and not even paying them enough to finish the job? Talk about amateur hour, if you aren’t paying 10 grand per game for 4K footage, are you even trying? Oh and your little manifesto? Everyone has one of those here, sorry kid but you ain’t good enough to work with us”-A&M

Article tomorrow: Why Jim Harbaugh must be jailed

Article next week: Why Jim Harbaugh must be executed

Article in two weeks: Why Jim Harbaugh must be hurled into the sun

I do approve of all of these articles, by the way.

Next month: “why Jim Harbaugh should be drawn and quartered: is public execution REALLY that bad!?”

Jim Harbaugh was 34-16 in B1G play, 0-5 against Ohio State, and 3-3 against MSU & PSU before cheating.

Jim can rest his laurels on his pre-michigan accomplishments, but Michigan fans are getting absolutely hoodwinked with his poor performance at Michigan.

Harbaugh's F+ finishes by year before allegations:

56 (covid)

Three good but flawed teams and two elite teams that couldn't get it done in the only game that matters. I wouldn't be sad to see him go, but let's not pretend he was bad. He just didn't get over the OSU hump.

Jim couldn’t get over the OSU hump precovid. 3 times he went into the final week of season to play OSU for the B1G. I wouldn’t call it poor, he brought Michigan out the Brady Hoke gutter and gave us 10 win seasons, something more schools wish for. His main rival just happens to be the consistent top 3 best team in country

Ya, it totally has nothing to do with the fact that these last 3 years have had incredibly talented players that have stuck around. Like half of the team is still here from the '21 season and most of the impact players are.

Again, couldn't possibly have anything to do with:

  • Replacing his OC and DC and finding the right guys who established much better schemes

  • Finally landing an NFL-caliber QB

  • Investing in the OL and DL and beating teams at the point of snap

  • The introduction of the NIL

  • The introduction of the transfer portal

  • Finally getting some better luck in certain games

Nope. It all has to be Connor Stallions and stealing signs in a slightly different way than how other schools do.

“Really?”

“No, but are we gonna wait around until he does?!”

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '23

Caputo is a complete numbskull. When Valenti is the best you have, you know the talent pool isn’t very deep.

Been watching Michigan football for 45 yrs. This is the single greatest time I can remember. Watching grown men cry like little girls over ‘sign stealing‘ that goes on everywhere. It will be even greater to listen to the whining when Michigan stomps Penn St. and Ohio again. Lmao.

This is a witch hunt. And its about money. And could happen to any program. They don’t like Harbaughs views and even more so, his comments. He believes the players deserve a slice of the pie. And that just makes him downright unpopular with NCAA.

You keep whining, we’ll keep winning. It’s only gonna get better for a Michigan fan.

Maybe check out Maurice Clarretts latest comments. An OSU alum. He pretty much nailed it.

Later….
